Keanu Reeves #2 may be recency bias - he sounds off IMO, too still and emotionless. Shadow is supposed to be stoic, but wooden.

Well there’s also limited material to sample since it’s not out yet so who can really know how well Keanu will do. But I do feel his performance gives Shadow a more vile feel like whenever Shadow speaks it sounds like he’s one second from just annihilating all Humans because they shot down Maria.🫤
Kōji Yusa. He's pretty much perfect for this role: Tragic, soft spoken, menacing yet also extremely sympathetic. It helps that he doesn't sound particularly edgy. As for the English voices, my favorites are David Humphrey, Kirk Thornton, and Keanu Reeves.
Yea I also feel like Kōji has a rather smooth quality to his voice. While as for Kirk, his voice is a little too harsh sounding for Shadow. I will say he does sound to be getting a bit better with Shadow Generations, but it's still not quite there.

Seeing David Humphrey at the bottom of a lot of people's list is crazy. He's by far my favorite shadow voice and I think he has a lot more range than other voices for shadow
I agree, he’s always been the best one to me (though Jason and Koji and I guess pretty soon Keanu are also up there.) People seem to be disliking him now because Kirk has seemingly been improving and because we got a line from Keanu, so now everyone is d-riding Keanu even though we hardly heard anything from him. On top of that this video basically uses the first performances of each actor, and David’s voice in SA2 isn’t really akin to how Shadow should sound today (if you know what I mean) so people are judging him by only the lines used here instead of how he sounds now. It would’ve been better if this video used Humphrey’s Heroes voice.

He was great, but he was given really bad directing in Adventure 2. In fact, everyone was
@@kilochampion787maybe, but only in Sonic Adventure 2. The problem wasn’t necessarily how his voice sounded, but a lack of context led the actors to not knowing how to emote in some scenes. He was directed correctly in Sonic Heroes where he’s much better, but even in SA2, he does good in emotional moments, as does Ryan’s Sonic.

The Japanese voice is melodious. So smooth. I love the contrast between Shadow's intimidating look and his super pleasant voice.
David is the one who seem more emotional and sounds young and playful.
Jason has a beautiful voice but the range of emotions is smaller.
Kirk, spare my ears.
Ian also seems to convey Shadow's personality in Prime... Here another contrast, a very serious voice for one of the most light hearted incarnation of him. Contrasts are always good.
Keanu, no sufficient elements to judge him. Maybe I need to hear more lines.
with jason i blame that on the way, at the time, that 4kids had most of its crew speaking with an emphasis on the last words/syllables
The fact that Koji Yusa is still providing the voice of Shadow, while in America the character has been passed around to different voice actors is something else

I think Keanu is gonna be an amazing voice for Shadow. Heck, maybe even he might be my favorite voice for Shadow.
Ya know, i quite like Ian’s rendition of Shadow a lot after watching the prime series. Grew up with Jason’s Shadow so gotta be up there in the top three as well. I’ve gotta say, even though the movie isn’t out yet, with just the couple of lines we got from Keanu in the trailer he’s probably gonna end up being my favorite out of all of them. Kirk’s also pretty good i like the raspiness in his voice.

David will always be Shadow in my heart! I wish he had more time with the role! No one really compares to his voice as Shadow for me when playing in English.
I love Koji's voice as well. I wasn't vibing with the current voice acting for Shadow, so I switched my shadow generation game to Japanese and Koji's melodious voice has been a welcome addition to an already wonderful experience.

You forgot Ryan Drummond, who voices all of Shadow's lines during the final boss battle of Sonic Adventure 2 due to David Humphrey being unavailable at the time of recording.

Y’know, what I suspected is starting to happen. Remember when we first heard Idris Elba as Knuckles and people went crazy over him? Before him, people seemed to like Scott Dreier’s Knuckles best (aside from Dan Green’s Knuckles,) but after Idris was heard, almost everyone forgot about Scott and started mindlessly praising Idris for his performance. Now I think the same thing is happening with Shadow; Now that Keanu was heard, people are starting to respect David Humphrey’s version even less (though there is still plenty of respect for Jason Griffith’s version.) Anyone else feel this way?

The people who still prefer David Humphrey over other Shadow VAs is because David has more range as Shadow than other Shadow VAs

I get that your favorite Shadow VA is subjective about which take on Shadow you like best; if you like Shadow to sound emotionally expressive and not over-the-top edgy, you’ll go with David. If you prefer Shadow to be more stoic and tough, you’ll go with Jason. If you prefer Shadow to sound much older and somewhat antagonistic (not really sure why you would though given Shadow’s motivations,) you’ll go with Kirk. If you prefer the more serious but cartoony brotherly take on Shadow, you’ll go with Ian. What I was initially saying is that people in the comments seem to be dissing David Humphrey now that the current Shadow voice actors like Kirk are trying to up their game and surpass David and that Keanu has been heard, on top of that the video doesn’t use voice clips that are really up to date, and people seem to judge David on how he sounds in these few clips. If it were me I would’ve used David’s voice in Heroes, Jason’s voice in Black Knight, Kirk’s voice in Forces and SxSG, and Ian’s voice in Prime S3.

I agree with you on thinking that he’s overhyped, but I still think his performance is fantastic, his voice suits Movie Knuckles really well, and his delivery is great. I find him overhyped because like with Keanu as Shadow, once we heard a line from him in the trailer, everyone went crazy over him and they started to completely forget how great Scott was. I still respect your opinion though.

Because if you managed to isolate his voice lines from the music, David already sounds good even in SA2.
I'm pointing this out because there are other youtubers that posted comparison videos (not this one though) like this without isolating the VAs voices. Meaning you can't properly hear David's voice acting over the admittedly loud music. Perhaps this was the same with Scott?

Do you mind extending your ranking to 6 places? Also I think David should go into the 1st place along with Koji, Jason, Ian, and Keanu since he gave Shadow more emotion. The video here uses SA2 voice clips which everyone seems to complain about since Shadow didn’t sound too dark there, but Humphrey got better in Heroes and sounded darker. Listen to some of his voice clips from Sonic Heroes, he sounds better. Not trying to disrespect your opinion but you should take that into consideration.

SEGA should've kept Jason Griffith for Shadow during the voice recast in 2010, his was easily the best one.
They made a perfect choice casting Keanu as the voice of Shadow. I'm fucking hyped!
Jason's always been my favourite Shadow VA, he makes Shadow sound mysterious but vulnerable too. Some VAs just go full edgelord and that's not who Shadow is supposed to be imo.
Uh, actually he doesn’t really make Shadow sound vulnerable, but David in SA2 does (which fits for SA2.) Jason brings out the acquired stoic and tough side of Shadow’s character in Shadow, 06, and Black Knight. By no means am I saying that Jason is bad, but he doesn’t make Shadow sound vulnerable, lol.
Kirk, however, makes him sound like a pure edgelord, which doesn’t fit him.

It’s what makes me wonder if they’re just trying to make everyone get to really feel Shadow’s presence for the first time in the movie in theaters. OR on the flip side they think he shouldn’t talk a lot so he doesn’t even have many lines throughout.

Kirk after Shadown Gens has proven himself to be an amazing Shadow with range. He's truly grown on me and i think he's great!

Keanu we still need to hear more from him. I had my reservations about him. I would ahve rather had a proper VA come back for Shadow. But we'll see, they said he researched Shadow and how to play him.
Yusa has been a great Shadow. While not my favorite he's still another amazing Shadow.

Kirk Really came a long way from free riders and og sonic generations.
While I would love David back as shadow, if Sa2 was ever remade Kirk voicing shadow would be something I'd be okay with. After Shadow Generations he has earned it.
Eeeehhhh I’d say for if 06 was remade rather than SA2, because nothing can replace David in SA2. David’s voice in SA2 got away with being emotional because Shadow’s story doubles down on the devastation and trauma Shadow was going through to fulfill Maria’s wish, while still being able to sound brooding overall. I don’t think Jason and Kirk would work as well as David did in SA2 ngl, because they were lacking that hint of vulnerability and because they sounded tougher or more stoic. For the appearances that Shadow makes after the end of his character arc though, like 06, I’d be fine with Kirk Thornton voicing him with the right direction.

Keanu’s voice is pretty spot-on in my opinion.
Deep enough to be menacing, but not overpowering. It helps that Shadow’s not a very emotional character, he’s mostly monotone 70% of the time. I think he’ll do great.
What the hell are you talking about, Shadow IS an emotional character, do you know anything about Shadow’s backstory from SA2? I mean sure, he had a lot of character development and left his past behind him after StH and became more stoic and less emotional by 06, but if you say he has no emotions at all, you’re bugging out and clearly know nothing about the character’s motivations.

Seriously, The Matrix is badass and super awesome. The Matrix 4 Resurrections is also totally badass. I still can't believe, he's not the one anymore. The savior. It was over, when he died. And yet, he and Trinity were still alive. Well, that's good. The Matrix have changed! I can't believe it. Hardcore movies, man! We seen Toy Story 4. Its was great. Disney movies r awesome. Watched all 4 of them. 1995, no. I was born that year. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On the Run is amazing movie...! We love SpongeBob SquarePants. The show were hilarious and awesome. SpongeBob was my childhood. I got plenty. Oh, my older brother played Cyberpunk 2077. Yeah. The Matrix is a cyberpunk movie. The game was seriously hardcore, I even watched the anime, since 2022... ...awesome anime, it reminds me of "Guilty Crown," "Elfen Lied," and "Darling in the Franxx." Its different and similar. And I can't wait to see Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Me and my brothers, we're gonna see it, part 1 & 2 were good movies. My younger brother, we seen Sonic X, a long time ago on, 4kids.tv.
