    As much as I appreciate other videos on this replacement, I have to compliment you for your videography. This angle just makes every bolted location so much easier to see, and your actual work put in shows me what I am up against. Sticky parts but definetly doable. Kudos!

      Appreciate the feedback. This is the easy side, if you're doing the driver side with an automatic transmission you're in for a treat.

    I changed out the drivers side arm today. A bit tricky as you have to free up one motor mount to get a bolt out. Oh, and remove the air cleaner box out of the way and take the battery and battery plate out too, then jack the tranny up about an inch or s to get a bolt out and back in later. This guy will probably have another great video about it. It's tricker than the passenger side. Watch the video two times and you should have it.

    im having problem aligning the bolt that goes in on the side bushing,can't lign it up. the bottom bolt which i thought would give me trouble actually went in smooth i had to remove it again tho to try and install the side bolt but still cant screw the bolt in,it goes in but just wont screw in. hopefully i can figure it out later on today but i am glad i seen this video since it showed me how to do this job 👍

      I assume you’re talking about the front bushing bolt. Try this if you haven’t already: pull the arm out of there and see if the bolt will thread in with nothing with no bushing in place, if it doesn’t the threads in the subframe may be damaged. Usually this isn’t the case but worth ruling out. Typically the bold is angled down in front the threads so try prying the bushing up slightly with a large screwdriver or prybar while driving it forward. Good luck!

      @@416diy thanks. yea i tested the bolt and it does thread in without the arm but that side bushing is just so difficult to align,i used a screwdriver to align it but it still wont screw in. the bottom bushing was surprisingly easier to lign up. i will try a bar today and see if that will help. i used a flat head to pry it down but i need a longer one,so i will get a pry bar today and see if that will help. thanks for your advise 👊

    How do you determine it is the control arm and not the ball joint need to be replace? My corolla has clunking noise when stop and then start or turn. The control arm and ball joint are original, I hope t is the ball joint since it much easier to replace. Thanks for the video. 👍

    • @416diy
      @416diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can remove the 3 bolts/nuts holding the ball joint to the control arm. Gran the metal plate of the ball joint and move it up and down. If you hear and feel clunking then replace the ball joint. While the ball joint is disconnected try moving the arm around and watch the bushings to see if they're sloppy or broken.

    after this you have to get an alignment right?

    • @416diy
      @416diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's debated often, the best guidance I would offer is if you can afford to, do it. Even though you didn't disturb any alignment points, the old arm and the new arm may have slight variances which change alignment.

      @@416diy I let someone borrow my car. Person definitely ran over a curb.
      The rear driver side tire is sitting on an angle, inwards... I thought it would be a bent control arm.

    • @416diy
      @416diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either the wheel is bent really badly, the hub/bearing is bent, or they bent the entire axle beam. Hopefully it's not a bent axle.

      @@416diy Thank you for your information, sincerely. I'm not good with cars.
      Is there any more information I can find about what the issue is?
      I called the auto repair shop (Navy Exchange Auto center) I'm stationed in Guam. Parts are scarce, take long to ship. The guy said maybe 100-2000$ for the repair. Is this something I can fix on my own?

    • @416diy
      @416diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's a bent wheel bearing, or possibly a bent shock even, you could probably do those jobs, provided you have access to basic tools. Replacing the rear axle, not so much. If I were you I'd try to get a mechanic to put it up on a hoist and give you an assessment, even if you have to pay them a bit for their time. I'm curious to know which part is damaged.

    So now you have a Chinese control arm and bushing and you can replace it every year 😂
