It is hard to pick the best cause they are going up against Bread, Carpenters and other amazing 70s soft rock wonders. How blessed were we to have all of 'em❤❤❤❤❤
Love America. Wore out a few of their tapes (showing my age). Might be soft rock, but when hearing them come on the radio you turn it up to 11. When listening to "Sister Golden Hair" reminds me of one of my best friends growing up, Wendy. (RIP).
Yes - all three members of America were in their 20's when they wrote and recorded Tin Man. Dewey Bunnell was 22, Gerry Beckley was also 22, and Dan Peek (who passed away in 2011) was 24. It is amazing to realize how young and gifted these singers/musicians were back then.
They're Americans, but they met and got together as high school students growing up in England. Their dads were US Air Force, stationed over there at the time.
Ok, so I don't know if anybody else mentioned this, but this was produced by George Martin (the man who produced The Beatles albums), and the piano that you're hearing in this song is played by the same George Martin (he also played piano parts on a lot of Beatles records)
Produced by George Martin (yes that one) who also plays the piano parts. Beautiful harmonies, great tune and instrumentation, and Dewey's nonsensical chorus lyrics. Ton of fun on this.
So pleased you really like this, Shawn. :) Always beautiful harmonies with America. You can generally tell which of the members wrote the song, because that person would sing lead on it. All three of the guys created great music, but I've always prefered Dewey's voice, melodies, and cerebral lyrics. His voice has a bit of a haunting, dreamlike quality, I think. He did "Horse With No Name", also, so I'm sure you would enjoy his composition "Ventura Highway", too. It's a terrific song to play anytime, but it works especially well if you're going on a wind-in-your-hair roadtrip. :)
Awesome group, under-known but will last forever. Hear “Ventura Highway”, perhaps THE song of the Americana genre, “Never Found the Time”, “Sister Golden Hair”, and many others every one of their sings was a jewel.
Soooo Smooooth. That was a great time for folk rock and great vibes! Oh, hearing this in good stereo is a great new experience....I like America even more than I knew.
Met at a school for children of U.S. armed services personnel, where he met Bunnell and Beckley. All three were musically inclined, and when they decided to form a band, they wanted to avoid anyone thinking they were Brits trying to sound American, so they settled on the name America. They were 22-24 years old when this was released in 1974.
They have an album from 2009 - Live at Wildwood Springs. 2 acoustic guitars and acoustic bass and 3 vocalists. Many of my favorite versions and yes, I remember when they first came out. Last saw them live in 2018 and the still sound great
I grew up with them and had several tapes of theirs. Some of the lyrics sound strange but they use metaphors in their songs. Yes, Boys and Girls, this is how music used to be.
A choice for your next one: "Ventura Highway" will take you for a ride... "Sister Golden Hair" will procrastinate, and in "Daisy Jane", the crack in his voice will break your heart. Up to you! ;-]
The whole is greater than the parts. Its about myths. Myths we hold foolishly. Confronting myths. Retreating to myths. 1) Oz never did give nothin to the Tin Man - The Tin Man showed and had a heart all along, it was just unlike our myth of what a heart is 2) Please believe in me - The idea, the myth is that, you shouldn't believe in me 3) The tropic of Sir Galahad The mythical quest, for love? For being an adult? For lasting relationships? Finding none of them IRL are like our myths?
I know you are getting into Genesis, so I want to suggest finding a couple more ballad-like tunes. Try 'Firth of Fifth' for a smooth and interesting prog song with lots of acoustic elements about a river. And a later tune called 'Blood on the Rooftops' for both nice acoustical parts and an interesting lyric about indifference with some anti-war nuances.
Best soft rock group of the early seventies. Yes America has a lot of good ones. "Ventura Highway" next, you might recognize the riff.
Agreed, with Bread.
You are nuts! NOT soft rock at all! Listen, dammit!
Such a great Band from the 70s. "Sister Golden Hair" is another of many excellent songs from America. "Ventura Highway" is another.
I grew up during this time and I can’t believe the amount of talent that was out there.
Same, I can't even believe I was that lucky.
Indeed, we were so gifted and we took it for granted.
It’s still out there. With all the formulas and slots they have in the music industry these days, it’s just harder to get it out there to the public.
It is hard to pick the best cause they are going up against Bread, Carpenters and other amazing 70s soft rock wonders. How blessed were we to have all of 'em❤❤❤❤❤
It is so so true.....Oz never did give something to the Tin Man that he didn't already have. Great lyric. Profound.
Love America. Wore out a few of their tapes (showing my age). Might be soft rock, but when hearing them come on the radio you turn it up to 11. When listening to "Sister Golden Hair" reminds me of one of my best friends growing up, Wendy. (RIP).

Yes people always leave out Dan
Ventura Highway is my favorite but they have a ton of great songs.
They're Americans, but they met and got together as high school students growing up in England. Their dads were US Air Force, stationed over there at the time.

Blast from the past.😊
Ok, so I don't know if anybody else mentioned this, but this was produced by George Martin (the man who produced The Beatles albums), and the piano that you're hearing in this song is played by the same George Martin (he also played piano parts on a lot of Beatles records)
Yes Ventura Highway next for sure.

America is 🔥🔥🔥

Wow, that's the exact definition: a haunting, dreamlike quality. Love Dewey's voice!
Great group. I have them on vinyl.
Always has been, always will be
a real feel good song. Easy.......
Butter is good, I like that
America has their own groove. Nice and light but yet a little heavy. Sister Golden Hair is pretty good.
Ventura Highway is a must!
Awesome group, under-known but will last forever. Hear “Ventura Highway”, perhaps THE song of the Americana genre, “Never Found the Time”, “Sister Golden Hair”, and many others every one of their sings was a jewel.
Imagine riding down the highway in the 70’s, windows down, not a care in the world, listening to America… pure bliss!
I Need You, Ventura Highway and Sister Golden Hair!!
“You Can Do Magic” ❤❤❤
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP Rabbit hole!! LOVE AMERICA!!! SO MANY good HITS!
Ventura Highway!!!💪
One of the first songs I ever remember hearing. Takes me back to my childhood.
Soooo Smooooth. That was a great time for folk rock and great vibes! Oh, hearing this in good stereo is a great new experience....I like America even more than I knew.

I love the "A B C's" of the early 70's.. America, Bread, The Carpenters...
Firefall "Just Remember I Love You"...Nuff Said.❤
America was one of those groups that we would play while cruising down the highway. It made little sense at the time but it was sure great listening.
"You Can Do Magic" is another great song by them.
I love your reactions!!! 😀 Your true appreciation shines through!!! 😀🤗 Ventura Highway! You need to hear that one! Or Sister Golden Hair 🙂
Butter! Yes ❤
They have an album from 2009 - Live at Wildwood Springs. 2 acoustic guitars and acoustic bass and 3 vocalists. Many of my favorite versions
and yes, I remember when they first came out. Last saw them live in 2018 and the still sound great
NIIIICCCE! :)
George Martin was the producer for The Beatles.
Loved them…but they were shooting stars! They where America, they captured a feeling of youth at the time!😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful harmonies! Love Dewey Bunnell''s voice.❤
Had their greatest hits album way back when it came out and wore that thing out listening to it so much!
Just another cool song. Ah life in the 70s
I grew up with them and had several tapes of theirs. Some of the lyrics sound strange but they use metaphors in their songs.
Yes, Boys and Girls, this is how music used to be.
Ventura highway!
Great song. Gotta check out "Ventura Highway" next, then "Only in Your Heart"!
Great band, definitely worth diving into.
Dan Peek one of my favorite singers

The group is fire try Sandman. They’ve got a ton of hits 3 Roses is another great one
I'm so happy you found this song to react to! It sounds like summertime
Ventura Highway is highly recopmmended!
You really need to do "Old Man Took" . Amazing...
Right before your Eyes is another good one, written by and done Canadian Ian Thomas
George Martin was also The Beatles' longtime producer.
My mind is blown! Recently I've been addicted to October Ends ' new song. Reacting to it would be awesome 🤘
Louisiana boy, the late Joe Osborn played bass on this song as well as hundreds of hit songs in the 60s and 70s
A choice for your next one: "Ventura Highway" will take you for a ride... "Sister Golden Hair" will procrastinate, and in "Daisy Jane", the crack in his voice will break your heart. Up to you! ;-]
This song is good, I think the radio just overplayed it to death, Ventura Highway is their best album
U.S. Military brats living overseas because of dad’s stationing. They became hugely popular upon release.
AMERICA'S MUSIC WAS MAINLY PRODUCED BY ( GEORGE MARTIN ) SHAWN! 👍😊 THE BEATLES😊 SO YEAH, GREAT SOFT ROCK SOUNDS WITH SUPER HARMONIES!
Daisy Jane has to be the ultimate in mellow from their collection.
Ventura Highway next up a must.
they weren't a 1-hit wonder ... more a 5-hit wonder. Good band, good song. Thanks for the reaction.
Thank you for your review. I understand Dan Peek played, (the superb) bass on this track. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think I would call them country/folk/pop.
Bread band is amazing
joe osbourne on bass studio ace from the wrecking crew need to check out the documentary or movie of the wrecking crew you'll be amazed
The whole is greater than the parts. Its about myths. Myths we hold foolishly. Confronting myths. Retreating to myths.
1) Oz never did give nothin to the Tin Man - The Tin Man showed and had a heart all along, it was just unlike our myth of what a heart is

They are Californians that formed when in school in the UK. Get it right!

I learned a long time ago not to analyze lyrics. Sgt Peppers taught me that lesson
😄😁😁😅😅
Great live band music sounds concert you like this you like cowsells
salvadori listen to America song. Ventura highway it's a groove CALIF coast hwy thanks peace johnnboy
Probably wouldn’t be called “America” if they were from England.😊
No more Critical Reacts? Name change?
The words are not so important in Tin Man,it's the sound.
Could have bee an instrumental easily.
