It’s funny that two things pop out at me: 1. The amount of “senior” and “producer” level roles at the studio, which is not a good sign, their roles don’t match their performance. 2. I didn’t know this but the studio is based in Washington state, one of the most expensive places to live in the US, the average person living there is on a 6 FIGURE salary…so it stands to reason that they would have been paid a lot for “senior” roles
Indeed it does not. But wait! What about that 200 mill the studio spend before Sony bought them? Where do we think that money came from? Concord was their first ever game, the studio didn't have any reserves from previous sold products, so yeah, that money almost certainly came from investment and loans, which means those 200 mill still existed as debt owed by the studio, when Sony purchased them. And that means it is now Sony's debt. When you buy a company, you also buy any debt that company might have. So at the minimum, we know that Sony is almost certainly in the hole for that full 600 mill that was spend on the game, and then we have to add whatever Sony spend buying the company ontop of that number. Oh, and game companies are not cheap, studio's like this have sold for between 200 to 400 mill in the past. We might be looking at a billion dollar loss here for Sony, or very close to it.
@@Jahn_Pah_Jonz A very excellent question, and one i do hope we'll get an answer to in the future. Of course we can very safely bet that ESG investmeant and loans were at play here. Just look at the game, it's got ESG written all over it. So that's going to be atleast part of the answer. Another part might actually be Sony themselves. It's possible that even before they decided to buy the studio, Sony were one of it's investors. We can't know for certain, but it woulden't shock me at this rate. There could even have existed an exclusivity deal in exchange for that investment. And of course, after we've discovered where Dustborn's money came from, i don't think we can rule out Goverment and the poor taxpayer just yet. There might be an angle there..

We NEED a 1983 style video game collapse. There are so many dev studios that need to shutter completely. Ubisoft, CD Projekt Red, Crystal Dynamics, BioWare, 343, Guerrilla, etc. the list goes on and on.
This is why Sony is announcing a bunch of basic remasters. They’re gonna bump resolution add some shadows and repackage the same games while withholding an actual remake of bloodbourne
I was thinking Concord was going to make a Final Fantasy 14 style comeback, where they literally destroy everything and they basically rebuild the game from scratch. But now, I'm starting to think this game is buried forever and has basically become lost media. Even with hard copies of the game, it was an online only game, with no single player or campaign mode, so even collectors aren't enticed to grab a copy as it just holds no value whatsoever.
An important thing to note is that the 400 million allegedly doesn't include the cost of buying Firewalk Studios. In total after EVERYTHING is said and done you literally could round it up to half a billion.
It’s far more than 400 million. They spent money to back the game, they poured more money to save it, then they bought the studio, made merch, advertising for the game, refunding ALL the companies that bought it, etc etc.
I've got Zero Gaming industry expertise BUT as a gamer since 1985 i can say with confidence i wouldn't lead a studio to a million $ loss much less 400 MILLION 😂

20 million. From the 40usd revenue price you reduce sales taxes, which are from 8-25% around the world, Steam/physical retailer costs that are around 30%, Sony own server costs for Sony store to download it (which is way less though), and regional prices, where game doesnt cost 40usd. On avarage, studio gets around half of the total ammount of money what the price on the US store is. Little more in USA, less on many other places with higher taxes or cheaper regional pricing.
I’m suddenly reminded of a line from Sideway’s video on Cats. “You spent a quarter of a space-station on this musical and you made it impossible to dance to!”

Sony trying to recoup loses with the ps5 pro is a big sign of the failure of exponential growth for a company. Just hope a government doesn't prop them up with taxes
After learning this, I just had to do basic calculations just to see how much that Sony would've needed to make back their money; $400,000,000 ÷ $40 per copy = 10,000,000 copies sold. They expected to make 10 million and even more so, in order to make their budget back, and they only sold at most 25,000 copies, getting £1million (before they refunded them all), and that's less than half of 1%, with this new update! This is beyond insane! Black Myth Wukong sold 18,000+ copies by 5th September, but that game's an anomaly of a lightning bolt! And that game charged for more money. One doesn't need to be a mathematic, economic or business expert to tell that this easily the biggest financial disaster we've ever seen in the history of gaming (to date); literally twice as bad as we previously believed it to be, so bad that for the past hour, I've been suffering a headache trying to process what the fuck I just learned!
@@Grobut81so how does a new start up receive so money in loans? Did they brag that they were making a game for Sony?
@@princerawat4297 you've obviously not watched Colin Moriarty

And I thought the Amico and E.T were huge flops (maybe even scams) but Concord is on a whole different level! 💀
Hey I liked ET when I was a kid... Yes I was a kid when it came out and I had an Atari... Lol there's some games now these days that have that certain thumping sound.... Remind me of ET walking around.
400 + 400 + 300....1.1 BILLION dollars to make Concord
@@Azhrei2000I found some joy in E.T. even though it was trash.. and never had a clue as to what I was doing besides falling down holes and flying back up
Concord a.k.a money laundry 🎉
It costed them 400 million + the studio purchase, Sony, Sony 🙄. At least we are getting a good laughter from this clown show. 😂🤡
Make that $600 million
they could have cured 250 people of sickle cell anemia for that price
But instead they chose to make this game so 250 people could play it for 2 weeks. Thats crazy.
Four hundred million... What the hell?! Sony still hasn't learned its lesson with a future live service with Alloy.
They will just charge an extra 50 bucks with the PS5 pro and Sony gets a half a billion write off. That's why the pros price was so high
The vast majority of all establishment media today is more interested in being hateful and abusive to the audiences they already had.
Video games have been no exception to this.
So Aloy was Hermen Hulst's waifu, and Concord was his (sweet) baby child?
Man what a dysfunctional family.
apparently they are remaking Aloy to be fat and mannish
Serves them right. Can't wait for fairgame$ .
Marathon gonna flop hard as well
That's the spirit.
Never forgive . Never forget .
Oh no!
Can't wait for the sequel.
It is called Fairgames 😂
Or worse, a remaster
Take it all in, everyone, we are witnessing history, the biggest failure in gaming history is happening
No. This story (of failure) is just beginning. Their humiliation must continue with fairgame$.
Never let kusoyny forget the path they chose to follow - the one that is leading them STRAIGHT to their demise.
It costs 400 million dollars to have this game live for 12 days
All other companies should learn from this devastating disaster
We NEED a 1983 style video game collapse. There are so many dev studios that need to shutter completely. Ubisoft, CD Projekt Red, Crystal Dynamics, BioWare, 343, Guerrilla, etc. the list goes on and on.
If I'm correct that's more the avengers endgame budget holy shit (I could be wrong)
This is why Sony is announcing a bunch of basic remasters. They’re gonna bump resolution add some shadows and repackage the same games while withholding an actual remake of bloodbourne
Classic modern audience
If the budget was really 400million, that means they would have to sell more than 10million units to just break even.
Nah, eventually they would added MTX even though supposedly it didn't have any to start
Absolutely not worth $400 million Sony have completely lost their minds
I was thinking Concord was going to make a Final Fantasy 14 style comeback, where they literally destroy everything and they basically rebuild the game from scratch. But now, I'm starting to think this game is buried forever and has basically become lost media. Even with hard copies of the game, it was an online only game, with no single player or campaign mode, so even collectors aren't enticed to grab a copy as it just holds no value whatsoever.
Kinda sad u thought this pos had a chance in the first place smh
Now I understand why they are so aggresive with their ps5 pro pricing. They are desperate to get their money back 🤣🤣
An important thing to note is that the 400 million allegedly doesn't include the cost of buying Firewalk Studios. In total after EVERYTHING is said and done you literally could round it up to half a billion.
It’s far more than 400 million. They spent money to back the game, they poured more money to save it, then they bought the studio, made merch, advertising for the game, refunding ALL the companies that bought it, etc etc.
I can't wait for the movie to be made about the massive game failures of 2024.
I've got Zero Gaming industry expertise BUT as a gamer since 1985 i can say with confidence i wouldn't lead a studio to a million $ loss much less 400 MILLION 😂
The more i hear about behind the scenes issues, the less sorry i feel for their failure and I hope they never get to work on another game again.
A lot of companies push staff into toxic positivity, it got so bad where I worked at, that us plebs began to throw kindling at the positivity by doubling down on toxic positivity until it went up in flames. IT WAS GLORIOUS!
If you are forced to play the fool, you may as well enjoy it all the way to the bank guilt-free. You can then get your sanity back in solitude.
Much of "society" is not only a joke but a sad one at that. And, still, some wonder why so many just play society without really caring for it. Society gets what society deserves.
Sony did this to themselves
You do it to yourself, you do, and that's why it really hurts, you do it to yourself, just you, you and noone else, you do it to yourseeeeeelf..
Concord is the gift that keeps on giving.
toxic positivity? basically, there were oppression in that company. the devs were not allowed to voice their opinion. keep your mouth shut or get kicked out. wow.
The guy who had the brilliant idea to close the Japanese study (that made games like Gravity Rush) and move to the USA deserved a salary rise. It worked out great for Sony!
JAPANStudio you meant. But yh, moving their HQ to the USA was a gigantic mistake.
So just for Sony to break even, they were betting on selling 10 million copies or introducing some means of monetizing their playerbase.
Apparently they thought it was going to be the next Star wars too... 😂😂😂😂😂
They made it into current day Star Wars
We could've had Bloodborne 2 AND 3 plus dlc for both for 400 million 😭
400 million. That's a small village worth of newly built homes.
Losing so much money is beyond insane.
Whoever in PlayStation or Sony thought million bucks for a old dated multiplayer game and bad designs is dumb 💀😂
It's was UN - ESG incentive program that turn multiple company woke.
*Dr Evil pose* four hundred…MILLION…dollars
Seriously, I estimated between 200 to 300 million. 400 million is a big fat L!
Titanic. Meet Iceberg.
400 million that could bring back old franchise throw on this garbage 😢

Jim Ryan’s legacy, “Fire-woke” Studios.
That could feed all of Africa for a year..
I’m suddenly reminded of a line from Sideway’s video on Cats.
“You spent a quarter of a space-station on this musical and you made it impossible to dance to!”
I can't understand, did they really during the development internally looked at this game with these characters and honestly though "oh yes this looks amazing, people will eat this". Like really? No one in the team said how ridiculous this looks? That new game in development Fairgame$ it will 100% fail horribly and everyone with eyes can see this now, but they still doing it.
To be fair, if they do that they gon be cancelled on twitter by a xe/xim black trans disabled body positivity Concordian and have no job at all.
The employees at that studio remind me of those "day in my life at x company" videos where it's seemingly someone doing nothing but lounging around drinking coffees, socializing with co-workers and going to "meetings".
400 million dollars, toxic working conditons, possible bullying as well and pure poor business sense.
how the heck is Sony still in business???
imagine that board of directors meeting going like.. . .. "so yeah. . . we just tossed 400 millies in the gutter innit ?"
You call it a crash. I call it a rebirth.
We've now measured the size of the "Modern Audience" and found it to be about 3,000 people.
My goodness, that many?
Why does SmashJT seem to get more hate from Wokies than anyone else, including threats of litigation?
Good question. Is it because he doesn't hide behind an avatar and fake name? The coverage itself doesn't seem any more "extreme" than other, similar TH-camrs.
It's good news for JT's channel, though! It's been exploding ever since progressives put him in their sights.
Goes to job interview gets asked about hole missing from resume. "Oh went to jail" interviewer "phew i thought you worked on concord"
Imagine all the merch tie-ins they had planned for this, ones that they do have but are stuck rotting in warehouses like printed t-shirts, controllers, mugs, posters or whatever. Oh boy.
Sony isn't going to just sit back and take that loss on the chin... Get ready for those PlayStation Plus prices to go up.
And yet ull see ponies defending everything that corrupt company does its really sad
Sony trying to recover their lost by selling an overpriced ps5 pro.
Fking 400mill.... THE AMOUNT OF SINGLE PLAYER/ COOP WE COULD HAVE HAD... OMG THE IP SONY HAD, and the spent all that money of DEI
No fcking way , no way , that’s insane , that’s the whole, industry needs a huge wake up call, they are hiring the wrong people on so many levels , no one seems to understand games as a whole , so much money to be made, easy money , just don’t be awful , like wow , wow , wow, why
This reminds me of the 1983 crash
And the physical copy of the game is selling in the region of $100-200 online. That is brutal and contributed $0 to Sony.
I'm guessing here is how the budget went.
-Game = 100m
-Marketing = 100m
-DEI consultation firms = 200m
Yet another perfect example of a money laundering scheme. The "outside" contractor they hired to work on this game feels like bullshit to me.
Imagine if, instead of paying for Concorde, Sony gave every PS5 owner 5 to $10. Imagine how much better their reputation would have been had they done that instead
They deserved every single dollar lost. This is what you get when you cater to the "modern audience" instead of the actual gamers.
Sony trying to recoup loses with the ps5 pro is a big sign of the failure of exponential growth for a company. Just hope a government doesn't prop them up with taxes
At 400 million dollars I'm not even sure how they expected to make money.
If gaming developers and publishers don't learn from this unprecedented cataclysm, they're are going to go bankrupt.
there will be only a crash on trash AAA budget games. There will always be indie and games like wukong with a smaller budget.
30 years from now you could still play the game crashed the industry in the 80s but not the game that crashed in 2024
