Fix me if I'm wrong but I believe that I've heard that modern cards have basically about the same specs, just with more technologies aboard. At least in Minecraft context it must be about correct. I'm not much of a hardware geek though and could be wrong or misinformed.

1080 is still good, it's just not necessarily streamer-good since streaming takes a toll on your graphics card on top of the game you're playing
Edit: also Live2D takes a decent amount of power to run, especially when you have more complex rigging or if you're collabing with someone else and rendering their model as well

Maybe the contract is changed slightly for the newer generation but I doubt it.

It's probably got more vram than most of you guys lmao. 1080ti has 11gigs. Nvidia made a mistake with the 1080ti they made a card that stayed good for too long. They never made that mistake again and gimped the vram on most cards
@@orlagh277 It's not apples to apples; the 10 series (Pascal) ran on ddr5. 20/30/40 series run on ddr6; almost double the mt's rate. My evga 3080 ti has 12 gigs of ddr6x
Not to mention the cards that do have lower wouldn't be compared to the flagship of that gen, like the 20/3060.

Man I've played Minecraft before with shaders on a laptop rx560x and ryzen 2500u. It was 30 fps most of time though, but I kinda believe that a desktop's 1080 - and CPU from most likely same category - is capable of providing some decent framerates, probably even with fine render distance, especially if you pick some light shaders and tweak them a bit.

Most new cards today are better than the 1080ti. Plus they’ll use less power and have a few more years of driver support. Not much point getting a 1080ti now
Just get a lower-end AMD card. A 6600XT will get you the same raw processing power, with /far/ more energy efficiency. I'm running a mid-range rig with one and I can get 1080p60fps on most things with only a 550W supply.
Seriously, don't waste your time with a second-hand 1080. The design is outdated and who knows how degraded the semiconductors will be.
