Just a little advisory... Be careful with those LiPo battery cells. 1, don't ever puncture them (significant fire hazard); 2, don't remove all of the foam rubber - it holds the cells away from the base of the box, and it is important to avoid pressure points on the cells; 3, it is important that there is some space in the battery box for the cell pouches to expand in the event that they become pressurised - a common occurrence when they are at the end of their working life. I don't want to be accused of scaremongering, but the last thing you want is a Lithium battery fire in the house. Cells at that size can burn very fiercely if they decide to let go. (Had to do this at work a few years ago as part of checking how much damage a single 1300mAh cell can do.)
Nice upgrade to the loco, too.

Then just use the normal battery boxes and have to replace 6 AAA batteries every once in a while, I use them for Powered Up and they last a while, my 60197 set is now in a lot of pieces cuz I may have stepped on it (I can get another one of those from eBay so not a big deal and I have 60337 on my TO DO list of building lego).

3677 was and is to this day one of my favourite Lego trains so far. I remember getting it back in 2012. I am amazed by your modifications, as you made things that I thought were impossible such as modifying rechargeable battery box. I was even more impressed with a light upgrade, as this was my only PF train that I never added lights on because I’ve haven’t come up with a solution for that. I think this locomotive might be based on Polish class SM42 diesel shunter locomotive as it shares many similarities with it such as that large fan in the front part of the locomotive. This would also explain why it is so tall, as while shunting taller cabin gives driver a better filled of view and allows the him to look over the wagons, so that he can see signal posts while locomotive is moving wagons from the back.

the way you modifed the train is absolutely amazing, even the 100% illegal techniques (watch out for the super secret police!). I also love how all the wires are Packed & Stacked inside the train, i’m sure it must weigh a ton with all that stuff inside it!
i’m pretty sure the modern train magnets have stud connections on the top and bottom of them so if you want to prevent the trains from breaking apart you could maybe put 1x2 plates on the tops and bottoms of the magnets just for extra strength! good luck :)

Great work, Robin, to cram all those cables into the 3677 locomotive. Especially the LEDs with their brick in the middle of the cable can be a real pain in that regard.
For train fans who are looking for a way to run a locomotive with two PF motors I'd like to mention another option, which is to add a switch bb0339c02 between the receiver and one of the motors to change the motor direction. If there is room for the switch, that is.
As for the red battery box: when I rebricked the locomotive I used a regular grey battery box and covered it on the sides with red adhesive vinyl foil used for plotters to save a some money as the red battery boxes go for a crazy prize on BL.
Keep up the great work! Cheers

    • @RobinHoodBricks

Hey! I've got a little idea for your new locomotive! You can make a second unit for it, and perhaps hide another battery box and use 2 more motors in it to have technically another "engine". It would technically be called a calf unit, and they are normally used to help engines like that shut and such.

A very easy way to avoid those seperations without the need to buy raw earth magnets, is to do something many real cargo trains do, and disperse the locomotives throughout the locomotive. For example, two at the front, 1 in the middle and 2 close to the rear. Having some push, some pull and some do both allows the pressure to be reduced on the magnets/couplings, and will also greatly reduce the effects of friction in corners thanks to more evenly distributed power!

Suggestion on the locomotive that you're adding rechargeable battery pack to
Since there is already the rounded section on the front of the cab.
and of course the hole in the top
might require some modification of the structure just a bit
but there's something that could be really realistic added to hear
besides you've already have the power functions lights added
An idea would be to use the 9 volt single lamp brick in the at the bottom of the locomotive on the of end of the stack of the rounded portion.
this could be done if done right I believe it might fit and using a Technic pin with the. Hollow stud.
Then either using the Bionicle type eyepiece whichever it is that's the transparent red Dome or the old 9 volt transparent red Dome.
Installed on top of the Technic pin as the flashing Beacon for locomotive.
    But it is pretty effective.
I have done this myself with something similar in another locomotive.
Also I built a caboose once that use the 9 volt fiber optic system and just two of the fibers.
have both the beacon and also the single flashing rear light on the train using this setup
Use the micro motor to run the mechanical side of the fiber optic unit.
Internal illumination was using power functions LEDs in this case one set of them.
Used the Lego fiber optic cables to do the rear lights of the Caboose as well even had a lamp in the upper Caboose window area.
Use the spillover white from the rear lights to light the interior as well.
And of course the other area where the fiber optic unit and so on is windowless of course
Worked out pretty well and was brother unique and definitely one off.
Going annoying part was in some parts there was a light leaking where I grounded some of the fiber optics I realized I could wrap with the black minifigure capiz to block the light spell through the red bricks.

      @RobinHoodBricks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

My question is, why not using the 9V system ? There's a company called FX tracks that makes compatible 9V tracks, and they are also developing new motors, because 6 locomotives with 6 stilo each are a massive and expansive number to maintain
On the long term the 9V is obviously cheaper, and with infinite playtime
And also you can add an engine everywhere you want because it don't need battery, cables or receiver

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The 9V system can't power infinite motors as its current is limited. I worked it out a while back and it'd power about six or maybe eight or so maximum. Also each 9V motor is about 70% as powerful as a PF one. So 6 at 70% would be about 4 of these, and I have ten. Also I don't use AAA batteries as I have the awesome PF rechargeable battery boxes, 8878!

I really like this train the only thing, and i know its not everytime i looked at it my whole life i feel like lego made it going the wrong way lol. Where im from the cabin is always closer to the front so you have a better view of the tracks infront of you. It would be hard to look over that nose dont you think ?
