Explaining AFL in 3 minutes

- Australian Rules Football is a complicated sport. So, before the new season begins (or at least, before it begins for 14 teams), I've attempted to make a video that quickly sums up the basics of the sport in a commercial break-sized timeframe.

It's something that annoyed me a lot actually - should be a goal rectangle. No idea why it's that size, either - Im fairly sure it used to be 20 yards long which made the name even more of a lie 🤣
Believe it or not that GWS reference was an accident! Was originally going to do a 2D animation with a red and blue team before I realised it wouldn't work - so I just replaced that with some random footage. Realised that I was now referencing a blue team that now didn't exist in my audio - luckily I'd picked a clip with the Giants as the away team!

Really wish the afl would just nut up and accept the SANFL's far simpler and superior out of bounds rules. The whole intentionality aspect is dumb. Even though I do like the suspense pause when the umpire has to figure out whether or not the player meant to kick it out of bounds or not. Funny stuff
Definitely think the SANFL have it right - strikes a good balance of keeping the ball in play and rewarding defenders.
For me, definitely the funniest part are the ironic shouts of 'deliberate' from the crowd whenever someone slips and falls over the boundary
@@thegaz-man it makes sense it happens though. If you have a rule which often requires a seemingly psychic link to the intentions of a player, then the bias of the crowd is going to call deliberate on just about anything.
American fan here...what are the SANFL out of bounds rules?
@@toddgunther8272 so cool to have an American watching! The SANFL is South Australia's state league - their rule is when a kick or handball goes out of bounds without touching another player, no matter if it bounces, it's a free kick to the other team.
If it comes off another player, or is forced out in general play, it's a throw-in
