This was amazing and really so helpful. I appreciate seeing in action so many skills I learned during my TRLC certification cohort. This master coach really guided this session and guided this client so beautifully by listening, NOT giving advice or answers but rather, guiding him to uncover his assets and capacity. She started with rapport and a bit of regulation (breathing) and, I have so many great AFQ's from this session. Thank you so much!

We're glad to hear that you found this session useful and reassuring. It's not uncommon to feel like you may be missing the direct route when coaching, or feel like you want to check the boxes on the perfect questions to ask. You are correct in knowing that your unique style is what will assist your clients most and that the exploration is indeed essential.
Coaches who ask curious and powerful questions authentically encourage clients to reflect deeply and explore their thoughts and feelings, which can lead to new insights and breakthroughs. It's great to see that you recognize the value of this approach. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and taking the time to leave a positive comment.
      Keep loving your life's work!

Thank you, Brighton, for showing up so honest, open and daring! You were in such good hands, thanks Jennifer "star(r)!" You role-modelled for me the application of the ICF competencies as presented by Brighton in the ICF video series - where I found out about this video after having listened to competency #8, explained by the CEO of "invite CHANGE". I am inspired by having learned so much today, definitely worth an entry in my personal Joy Journal! I am thinking now while writing how Joy can come threefold: related to being received by another, created by a circumstance or giving it to oneself. Which might be the most challenging one for myself? I am now wondering ...

Sounds to me like the times he enjoys the most remembering are the times he spent with his loved ones. Maybe add some more of that in your days.
Now how can we integrate spending time with family and friends into your workday? Taking breaks from your work to go have that dinner with your wife, and maybe some pool with Mark before you finish that video, is not as absurd in your job as you might think. Maybe document your poolgame and make it a source of income to ease that quilt of not working 24/7.
As it's hard to create ambiguous plans with people without a clear goal: maybe you should give up on the idea that work and play have to be separated. Accepting the fact that your job is really flexible, and it doesn't need to end at certain time is the first step to do just that.
Since you like that idea of clear playtime separate from work: how about starting a hobby where there is some organized activity you go to 3 times a week, and you can't miss it. Maybe even intentionally book it for 11 am so it's clear your work doesn't need to be done before you engage in this very important activity of yours.
You seem to want to make your work your life and that's great. But this also means you need to add the pastime inside your work, inside your life.

HE WANT'S SOLUTIONS TO HIS PROCRASTINATION ISSUE! With men, offer solutions! that's what they want to hear (Coaching). He needs motivation to be more productive. Explain that the reward of doing something productive will set a drive to do other productive things. Or to prepare for the productive situations so that he set's himself up for success, give him exercises to help him change his perspective on productivity, SOMETHING. Holy cow, I'm going to become a Personal Development Coach. I would bet money that most women would think this was a good session, but most men would disagree. Not to sound obtuse, it's that women like to be heard and talk about feelings. This would have been great for a woman but men want to figure out solutions to the issue, not to be questioned on feelings as much.

    • @inviteCHANGE
      @inviteCHANGE  ปีที่แล้ว +10

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the coaching session example. In coaching, our aim is not to simply offer solutions or provide motivation. Instead, we work with individuals to support their self-discovery, facilitate deeper insights, and empower them to find their own solutions.
While it's true that some individuals, regardless of gender, may prefer a more direct and solution-focused approach, it's important to remember that coaching is a personalized process. Different individuals have unique preferences and needs.
In the coaching session example, the focus was on helping the individual explore their procrastination issue and gain a better understanding of the underlying factors. By creating awareness around the rewards of productivity and providing exercises to shift perspectives, the coach helped the client develop new insights and potentially find their own motivation to take action. It's about empowering the client to drive their own progress.
Every individual, regardless of gender, can benefit from coaching. The effectiveness of coaching is not limited by gender, but rather by the commitment, openness, and willingness of the individual to engage in the process and take ownership of their growth.
If you're interested in becoming a Personal Development Coach, it's important to embrace the principles of coaching, including active listening, powerful questioning, and cultivating self-discovery. This approach can be impactful for individuals of all genders.
Coaching is a powerful tool and can create significant positive change in people's lives. I encourage you to explore further and consider pursuing your passion for personal development coaching.

What constitutes joy in the man's mind? What does it look like? What memories specifically bring to mind the emotional feelings of joy? What is the difference between a happy or positive event and joy? Is it possible to have joy in the midst of problems or things not going the way you planned? If so, how do you define and describe the difference between happiness and joy? And. . . . if that's the goal, feeling and experiencing joy during the day, what beliefs would have to change? ------- The coaching skipped all over the surface without exposing the true discontent in the heart of the man! Why? Why was the coach allowing the client to dance around the surface of a subject? The questions from my perspective were superficial in exploring the root cause and reason for the person's life. ------- The joy thing. . .as the man stated, is connected to the "reason why" . . . that was his quoted phrase. That's key. The coach didn't hear it. If I was to be an intuitive coach myself, which I am. . . the issue here is the man doesn't know why he is alive and questions his value in life. And, ending the day with a "joy journal" to see if he experienced it is not working. He needs to figure out why he is alive, what the purpose of life is, and what his specific calling or mission for living is. And, then with a vision for the "WHY" . . . he will have measurable target and reference to shoot for and live joyful in. Without knowing why you are alive and the purpose of your life, there is no joy! It's all "lost." Which is what the Bible calls those who don't know the Lord and the reason He made them. They are lost! That relationship with God needs to be restored. I cut to the chase, because its the truth. The "guilt" he was originally assigning to wasted time was the guilt of living a disconnected life apart from a relationship with His creator, the living Lord, Jesus Christ who loves Him and died for his sins so he could live accepted, loved, and guilt free! And in that relationship find joy and live with purpose, not having to measure up to the law and religious performance, but in response to the love of God that is freely given by faith. Hello. LOL How do I know this. It's the truth. And to quote Jesus from the bible: "The truth will set you free!" And. . He said, "If I set you free, you will be free indeed." Guilt, Shame, and feeling lost are real issue. The only solution is a born again, set free, new creation, alive in Christ, . . LIFE. Jesus said, "I came to give you life and life to the fullest!" Jesus rose from the dead! He's alive. And redeems people and sets them free from guilt, shame, and every identity issue. But they need to agree with God in order to walk into the light and receive the "joy" of the Lord and be Spiritually made new. They need to realize they are guilty and they need a savior. No one can come to God with religion or performance. None of us are perfect. And God is holy holy holy, perfect. We are fallen creatures, descendants of Adam and Eve. The solution is a spiritual one. There are only two kingdoms. The kingdom of God, which is light and full of joy and peace and purpose, being restored in relationship with Him. And Satan's kingdom of darkness, blind existence, pursuing superficial meaning and filling emotional needs by other people who also have half empty buckets and can never fill us. People need to be filled to overflowing by the Lord, falling in love with Him, finding their identity in Him. Finding the love that never rejects, and secures us as accepted born again children. We can't earn it and we can't lose it. It's not achieved by works or religions. Its recieved by faith in what Jesus did on the cross by paying for our sins and rising again to give us new life. Apart from Christ paying for our sin, and the willful acceptance of His payment for their sin, by believing what He actually did for them on the cross. . . . they can only bury the truth that they are guilty (not just feeling it) . . . without God, keep pursuing superficial life experiences that only end in emptiness and the feelings of something isn't right. Because it isn't!
A joy journal will only be an empty book with superficial and fleeting experiences, without God. . .if life is lived without God. It's meaningless!

Not everyone is religious and they don't need to bee converted while they're being coached. It's a great strategy if they are religious, but if they're not, you're just doing more harm than good.

People who see therapist …honestly should just stick to it. They like to try so many things .

Highly intimidating when a client comes in already knowing about coach vs consultant vs therapist etc. He needs therapy not coaching .

Not impressed, she just did a basic first session. Nothing profound. Also when critiquing this is important to remember that a coach is not a psychologist or a psychiatrist.
