    Thank you very much for the detailed description of this lens. But beside of all the tec-specs I really like the passion for photography that spreads through you videos. And that’s what all the tools are for finally. Catching, thanks!
    And all who are not interested in this particular lens, enjoy the images in the last six minutes and get inspired.

    Get yourself a Raynox DCR-250 clip-on macro lens. The amount of detail you discover at 2.5x magnification is amazing.

    Thank you for a really good, and comprehensive review. The macro performance of the lens seems excellent, and the pictures of the art deco 'Marine Court' building in St. Leonards-on-Sea, at 1.43 and 30.00 were a nice surprise, I lived there for many years!.

    I own an OMD EM5 III and am interested in the 7 Artisan 60 macro.
    I assume the orf file will not have an Exif. One question, do we have the full settings in the viewfinder when shooting ?
    Sincerely
    Thierry

    Have Laowa 2:1 apo and Fujinon 80mm f2.8.The Laowa is probably best manual proposition for X-mount and later one is probably the best macro lens I ever used. Downside for Laowa is same as you mentioned for 7 artisans and for Fujinon size and weight.On Fujinon I'm also using.TC 1.4 giving the focal length of about 112mm,it has fast linear motors and OIS ,but price is also steep.

    • @zenography7923
      @zenography7923  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many macro lenses are pretty steeply priced - I’m glad to say that doesn’t apply to this one!

    • @eagleeyephoto8715
      @eagleeyephoto8715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zenography7923 Yeah but there are some differences between them.As good as Laowa is it is not Fujifil. Hate to say but you get what you pay.

    • @tjkrueger2655
      @tjkrueger2655 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I regret selling my Fuji 80mm macro everyday... people talk about 'pop', but that beauty has it in spades. Plus the OIS makes it so much more versatile for casual macro, portrait and landscapes.

    • @eagleeyephoto8715
      @eagleeyephoto8715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tjkrueger2655 Yeah it has pop and contrast straight from f2.8 and it has amazing AF speed.I was surprised by the AF speed after using many Macros in last 3.5 decade this is one of the fastest I came a cross for non-macro use.Found that new Nikkor Z 100mm macro is also quite good,tad sharper (at 400%) across the frame then Fujinon but slower AF and nervous busy boekeh,which you will always have plenty when it comes to macro.Though that when using TC 1.4 and mcex 11 or 16 you can go beyong 1:1 (about 1.8:1 or so).

    Well worth waiting for, Nigel, and an honest appraisal of an interesting lens. China is producing some very nice lenses indeed, I wonder if they will take on board your comments re the focus ring backlash and the printed markings? Time will tell, I suppose.

    Not taking away from this, but most of us were pretty delighted when we started using our old pocket digitals like the Samsungs, Panasonics and Canons in macro mode. It was magic time to get instant results compared the film days with macro. You went to program, selected ASA 200, minus one stop, and killed it.
    True, the files were from 5 to 12 megs, and there was jpeg compression, but it was and still is very satisfying. There's a reason a minty Canon Elph 310 can still fetch good dough on ebay...and those soft edges in macro hid the sharpening very nicely.

    I found out that some 7artisans lenses (25mm and 35mm) deliver rather bad results on an MFT sensor. I had to stop down the 35mm to f/5.6 to get reasonably sharp image corners. Wide open it was only usable for "creative" photography (very soft, poor sharpness, lot of CA), the 25mm as well. Apparently these lenses deliver much better results on APS-C sensors with larger pixels. I think most 7artisans lenses are also designed for APS-C. After two years, my 35mm also had a lot of play in the aperture ring. but at this price, you can't complain. Now, i only own the 16mm UFO lens. I sold the others because of the poor image quality.

      I've found the ones I've tried to be pretty nice all told. They are budget lenses it's true, but they're generally nicely finished and can make some nice images too. Sorry to hear you've had some problems.

    • @Renegade1127
      @Renegade1127 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The APS-C lenses are indeed very good - at least my EF-M mount 12mm f2.8 certainly is.

    Great review, i would buy one instantly if not for the for - aft mov,t play you describe on the focus ring, its always been my experience that if say a given lens focus ring is stiff ( in any aspect) it will loosen up with use , but if say there is play or " slack" if you will, then it just gets worse with use. An example i can attest to is my Fuji XF 100-400 zoom, when it was brand new , boy was that thing hard to twist!! but now after a couple years on its settled down and fine, and, not getting slacker. Again lovely review, but just to conclude, I took a punt on the TT Artisans 17 f1.4 and its my personal policy to fit a filter before 1st use, i expressed concern about may be a filter would contact the bulbous front element, I fitted VERY carefully a Kenko 40.5 Air UV filter and it did NOT touch. However when i fitted a lens hood guess what ? big time Vignetting, but as described B4, i have actually had filters touching bulbous front elements no my vintage gear. But for what is worth i can confirm that a "Kenko Air" will not foul against this lens ( TT Artzans 17 f1.4).

    I'm testing the TT Artisans 40mm at the moment and wonder if this would be worth the extra cost over theTT Artisans. The longer focal lenght would come in handy i guess. There are some reviews claim that this is not as sharp as the TT Artisans.

    • @zenography7923
      @zenography7923  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my experience they're about the same in terms of sharpness, at least in my everyday real world tests. Pointing these lenses at a test chart may reveal some differences, but in real world shooting I found no difference.

    Very fascinating lens. I've noticed on eBay that it's also available for M43 cameras. I've noticed that you mentioned it's best as an APS-C lens, but assumed you might have meant against full frame sensors. Do you think it would make a decent M43 macro lens with the smaller sensor size?

    Hello sir, its my 2nd comment on this post , hope thats allowed so to speak, its a stonking lens ! its my first usage of a PROPER dedicated macro lens, i have used manual zooms with macro capabilities tagged on if you will ? such as my Centon 28-70 short zoom , and this lens is not bad in this regard. But having taken a some shots on my way home, even in poor light and looking at the jpegs when home, i am pleasantly confused in thinking to self " did that actually happen" ? in regard to the cost, cheers !
