      I'm still laughing at this little trick the boys played on me. It was well worth it in the end. Very hot few days with JP but the milkshakes were delicious! I can't wait until swarm season next year.

    You know it's refreshing, a few other channels that does bee removals, while they'll do the job and on most occasions show off the caught queen.
    I like hearing you admiring the job the bees do, just the way you often mention how beautiful their collection of honey looks etc.

    You know I always under estimate how much work something like this is. All the maintenance you were referring to after, to make sure no other bees move back in. It's truly amazing!

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      NaNcy K (Poppy Moonblossom) bee proofing is the most important part of the process other than saving the bees.
      People want an easy fix as to preventing other colonies from returning but there is no easy fix, nothing you can spray or anything like that will keep them away.
      Exclusion is the way to go. Maintenance, caulking & sealing, no spray foam, bees chew right threw spray foam.

As a builder of over 20 years and a beekeeper of over 4+ years, my business, HONEY B GUYS is a perfect fit up here. We are in line for a banner year next season for scheduled removals already! @@JPthebeeman I actually started down this whole beehive rabbit-hole with one of Yappy's videos, so I'm glad to see he's well-liked! Thanks for all your hard work and remote camaraderie!
      Ps. 5th-gen Miamian in Seattle since college in the 1990s here, and when you described palmetto bugs I had to remind myself I was in reality and that reality was in Seattle and none of them were trying to fly in my pale as all-get-out face at night! Even the slow march of terms leading to Palmetto bugs was anticipated by me and I _knew_ you were going to say it was a Floridian term! I can't believe I'm actually making it through the rest of this video. _[distant look]_ I have grown...

    Sure do miss the vids JP. Lost both of my colonies to foul brood this year. Was one of the saddest days of my life. After investing so much time and getting to know their patterns so well they where definitely my girls. Hard to explain the connection to other people. Owning and caring for bees will change you as a human being, you look at everything in nature differently and become a weatherman to boot. I Have a 5 frame nuc ordered for next spring, I burned everything I previously owned and will start with new everything this round.

      I know this comment is 3 years old but i understand. I had a colony of atta cephelaotes (leaf cutting ants) they were my pride and joy. Sadly lost them due to power cut and my stupidity of putting them in a cold space relying 100% on heat. But live and learn, I really want to learn to keep bee's now.

      +brendahere actually she does indeed stand out when you spot her. I know that sounds unbelievable but she really does jump out at you in most cases.

      If you know what to look for and know the bees behavior around a queen, plus have a trained eye like them it is realy easy.

    I've lived in Orlando almost my entire life and nothing (literally) screams "this is Florida" like those cicadas in the opening! 😂

      It’s the whole south....I’ve lived in East Tennessee, Central North Carolina and now Northern Alabama and the cicadas are in all those places.... I LOVE them.
      For me, hearing Cicadas mean I’m home. I had to live in Pennsylvania for a while, no cicadas , and too cold and full of rude Yankees! So yeah, I love the South and cicadas!

    just curious, i see there is no end on the vacuum, do you just suck the bees up in it and let them fly out or are they actually trapped and or die in the vacuum?

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Ethan G the bees go into the catch box which is an actual hive body that has a screen top & slide out metal bottom. The top which contains the vacuum motor comes right up & off. In most cases the brood comb is transferred into frames that go into a separate hive body. Once the removal is completed, the catch box goes over the brood box & the bottom of the catch box is removed to allow the bees to drop down & cover the brood comb.

    Okay dumb question but why do the bees head for the light I mean they got in one way if they were trying to get out wouldn't they have just gone back the same way rather than die like they did there....So sad! Great video though thanks JP good to see you back behind (and in front) of the camera again! lol

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cat Sparrow great question! Cat, unfortunately bees don't see like we do. When they see a bright light source they are drawn to it & can't figure out how to go back the way they came in, don't believe they have the thought process to consider the return trip back through the hole they flew from.

    You should invest in a SEE SNAKE.ITS a video screen on a long cable with a light on the end of the cable that you can insert into a small opening in the wall. Electricians use it to see wires in the walls ,plumbers also use it to check for leaks in hard to see places.NO NEED TO MAKE BIG HOLE IN THE WALLS, just a thought love your vedios I live in new york
