This song played on PBS KQED every morning at 9am. My kids, who were then 1 and 2 would come running to the TV because that meant Sesame St. was starting. We stood in front, watching the sunrise on the screen and listening to this . . . . and sometimes they'd jump into my arms and we would ballet around the living room. They were amazed, I think, at the beautiful sounds those voices made. I looked at them and felt so much love. I felt so blessed to have them. They were MY new day. They are now 19 and 20, and they still stop and listen when they hear this, and we all reminisce about when they were itty bitties. They both have grown into the most wonderful people I could ever really wish to know . . . . and I still feel that same hope when I hear this. When I'm with them. They are still my New Day.

I sent this video to my niece in Colorado when her daughter was born 8 months ago....I told her to look at that little girl when you hear this song....she is your New Day...I still get glassy-eyed when I hear this...It's so beautiful.

I sang this for festival for chorus and we begged the teacher to let us sing it for our concert. She said yes! It's my last chorus concert for high school and I'm proud to get to sing this song for it!
I first heard this nearly forty years ago ago when I bought an album at an auction for £5 as a 15 year old on his first holiday alone without parents. It was a blind auction and £5 was a lot of money then but this song stuck with me and I still sing it to myself now and thank god for TH-cam and for the gift of this song. Without TH-cam it would have disappeared and only be a memory of me getting stung in Rhyl as a naive 15 year old
This song makes me just melt into the floor or my chair or wherever I am when I'm listening to it. So amazing, so awesome, so awe-inspiring, so moving. This is why music speaks volumes wherever you are. Why it's a universal language. Even if you couldn't hear these words, you would sense the love, the perfection, the hope that underlies this piece of music. Congratulations to TKS for spreading this joy through the world and for making the world a better place through song.

Ah, I just love this song! The high school choir I'm in is singing this for this year's seniors at graduation! What's amazing to me is that they blend sooo well, and the fact that their countertenor(s) are so perfectly on pitch when my choir's first tenors have a hard time reaching their notes! But they're professional singers for a reason, right? :)
I actually sang this song in my middle school choir in 2011 or 2012. But it was just us girls singing, no guys. It was beautiful, my choir teacher arranged it for us so we can sing it in a way that made sense to us musically. She did an awesome job

I sang this at a christmas concert the other night :) singing the 1st counter tenor / sop line, just 6 male voices. So so much fun. We did it in the original key though, in C major, went up to a top f :)
@mrsIT93 The singer is singing to "Today" (life, actually) and how happy he is to see it, and tells the New Day if it proves to him that it has really arrived, he will love it more than himself and any previous day-just let the sun rise and the birds greet the morning. He thinks about how humans could destroy everything, so he doesn't say these things lightly.

Well yah, I understand that they're a subgroup; and what I meant by "countertenors sing in the alto range" is that they ALL sing in the alto tessitura (like you seemingly agree?). Perhaps it was misleading when I didn't say "other countertenors" rather than just "countertenors" at the end, my apologies. But my point was that even though true male sopranos are uncommon, they EXIST (which you also..seemingly agree..contradicting what you first said)

Firstly, sopranists (male sopranos) are a branch of countertenor. Secondly, both countertenors sing within the alto register. So, no they are countertenors. It is what they call themselves as well.
