Hey folks! Since PayPal took over iZettle they don't support this channel any more. If you'd like to consider a different card reader give Tide a try. They're offering £100 cashback and their reader can be used completely stand-alone. Here's a link smallbusinesstoolbox.uk/links/tide-card-reader or use code SBTPOS. Please have a read of the full review and offer terms here: smallbusinesstoolbox.uk/tide-card-reader-review/
    Thank you!! 👍👍

This is the best UK based review I have seen for the Zettle card reader. For the last few years I have been using a Paypal Here card reader and have just found out that support for the Here reader is being discontinued from April 3rd 2023.
As I already have a Paypal account do you know if it is possible to use it with the Zettle reader or would I have to start a whole new account for Zettle?
I have also been looking at the Sumup card reader but the reviews for those seem to suggest it is not a very robust unit and has a habit of locking up and becoming unusable if it gets knocked or dropped so would not be very good around a workshop environment.

Hi, I now have a Zettle reader 2 and when you set your account up you can specify which account you want your payments to go to. I set my bank as the account for zettle to pay into. I think I set payment after 7 days for mine. If you don't set a bank or other account, I think Zettle holds the payments until you transfer them to whichever account you want your money to go to.
I found when I set my account up Zettle asks you what type of business you are. As a small woodcraft maker and occasional market and craft fair seller I could'nt find an option to cover me until I clicked on the retail option and it is there in the drop down menu that pops up. So as a small maker / seller you can specify that to zettle.

@@ofof9217 It is the PayPal Here app and payment processing services that are being discontinued in April 2023 not the Zettle app and payment services.
I came to Zettle because I was previously using PayPal Here and so had to find a new card and payment processing service. PayPal now own Zettle but in April will no longer support Paypal Here.

I’m a mobile electrician, my invoices are made in quickbooks, they are usually eg 25£ labour 3£ sundries and quickbooks adds 20% vat. How do I collect payment with Zettle, do I have to make a Zettle invoice in the app that duplicates the qb invoice and add the vat as a product. Sounds a bit clunky so I’m wondering how to do it, thanks

I received my iZettle 2 last week. Amazingly it’s still the only card reader I know that allows repeat payments. As a busker myself I wouldn’t want to stop mid-song to take a card payment! I phoned the company (as listed in the app’s support option) and they added the repeat payment function at their end. The option appeared on my app after a couple of days. I don’t think you can set it up without phoning Zettle/PayPal.

Just got mine ordered (still £19 via the link). Quick question: how do you record this in your books (ie do you just show the total monthly fee charged, or record each invoice with the fee against it and net received? Hope that makes sense!

    • @SmallBusinessToolbox
      @SmallBusinessToolbox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I log the net sale amount (the amount that actually hits my bank account - call that A) and I log what the original gross sale value was (call that B). I deduct A from B and that gives the fee charged per transaction. I then add up all the fee charges at the end of the year and include that as a lump sum expense. So I just use a total but I have it down to per-transaction if needed (very unlikely). There's probably a report in iZettle that gives you this info. but I haven't checked. 👍

    • @SmallBusinessToolbox

You're not allowed to charge extra for credit cards these days, so I just make sure the price includes enough to cover the charge, regardless of the payment method. 👍

Hi there, very informative video!I have a quick question: One of the steps when you sign up is them asking you to send documents such as proof of address, passport etc. They sent me back an email saying my registration is denied. I am not sure why as I sent them everything they needed. Can I still purchase the card reader and start with my business or they won't let me use their card machine/won't get payed. I've already download the app and signed up. I am a bit confused.

@@pouncerminned863 I went for the SumUp reader instead. They never ask you for documents and it worked great for me for months. Izettle seemed too complicated.

These are really designed for predominantly face-to-face payments. You can issue and invoice or payment link so the customer can pay remotely. Really depends on what you're selling / your business model. 👍

Hi Tim - absolutely in my view! I classify them as banking fees. Obviously double check with an accountant. 👍

whats annoying with this is that it keeps losing connection to bluetooth. many times it just wont do it and you have to restart the system and fiddle about which is embarrasing.

Hi there, hope someone can help me out. I'm new to zettle (used to use with PayPal here) can I buy a pre-used zettle terminal? Or does it have to be new? Also with regards to the receipt what exactly does it show? Because ive got a chip shop and im would like to know what info the receipt would contain. Ive had issues with people asking for charge backs from their bank. Also, if i choose a the standard 'card reader' like the one your using in this video, what printers would work with zettle? So sorry for all these questions. Thank you 🙏
