That’s one way of doing it. I always start off with a bypass switch in replace of the starter relay. All-Data is the other tool that makes this job a breeze
be careful people on this diagnosis , sending voltage down the purple wire to the starter and it doesnt start is no gaurantee the starter is faulty ,if the purple wire which is terminal 50 feed to the starter solenoid , is corroded and broken at the solenoid then no start also main earth cable to engine block broken then no start ,just another 2 faults that can happen ,i wouldnt like to purchase a starter and strip it down to find a broken wire ,fully diagnose before loading the parts cannon .
hi man! i have an e class like your, I've the same problem, I've checked the fuse box and I've changed the fuse number 7 because burnt, after that when I try to cranck I can hear a click. same thing when I send power to the purple wire like you've done, what do you think? is the starter?
bisce94 check your earth connection to the engine block you could simulate an earth from the battery earth to the engine block with jump leads then put voltage down to the starter
@@IrestoreIT i had the same problem, i changed the starter and it still didnt work. What i did was charge the battery for like 5 minutes with another car, and we found out that one fuse didnt work. It was a yellow 20. Changed that and it started right up. After it starts make sure you let the car stay on for minimum 30 minutes or with battery charger.
Good day will this procedure be the same procedure for a w205 with same motor?? i got a similar issue on my C250 W205 2016 model .... some days starter motor crank some other days it doesnt crank....
When my starter motor was broken it made a ticking noise everytime i tried to start it, Sometimes i had to try to start it 30 times till it actually started! But now I have a really weird rough hissing/whistle/scream when i accelerate, starts at 2k rpm till like 3k. Do you have any idea what it is? When I put the car in P and rev it, the noise is still there. Already changed exhaust manifold and i think the turbo pipe looks fine too. And great video 👍🏻
MercMan Tips there is no light on and I haven’t got a notification either. I think the car pulls normal, car was remapped 4 months ago. Bought it in april and the car has 400k km mileage. Its usually driven fast so I was thinking it would be something turbo/air related. Also could it be the intercooler? Because i think it has still the original on it! Also the car can sometimes give alot white smoke when cold. And its the c220 om651 engine. Thanks for the tips I will check all these things tomorrow!
@@ollie-kc6nj got it fixed at Mercedes later on, indeed the egr cooler had an issue and some sensors also broke down. Sold the car half a year ago but thanks anyway :)
So after this test you fit a new starter motor and it doesn’t start then you find with proper testing the starter motor has lost the earth connection then you have wasted your money , please fully test the full circuit in the first place , don’t be a parts changer.
If you want to know how to change the starter motor on this model, click this link: th-cam.com/video/nKk1sNqmvSA/w-d-xo.html
Brilliant video, diagnosed my issue perfectly! Top man!

excellent video!!!
I have the same problem on my 2011 w212, it want crank. 🤔
I’ll tried and had no power/ signal from the wire.
Fuse nr 7 is fried.
Is there any way of doing this on a w207 e550 coupe 2010? I'm getting long cranks and was told it may be my starter.
I have the same problem in my W205 2014
Do you have Any advice what to do ?
Avez vous réussi à trouver ?
My W204 C220 cdi OM646.811 does not start, keeps blowing up the Starter Fuse (no.7 - 20A) . What could be the possible reasons?

Most likely an air intake leak, usually turbo boost pipes and sometimes the actual intake manifold leaks, is the engine management light on?

@dennis7str I know this is very late any chance it was from the egr cooler and water pipe behind the engine
