    magnificent piece of history! even only being 23 I still love the sound of early model car engines. hearing all the mechanical parts in tune. purring like a kitten!

    Just marvelous!! I can't believe that little ride has those "pesky overhead valve things" in 1914!! Totally cool ..... and what a hoot to get one crankin' again after SO long with just a couple of wags to its tail ....

    Outstanding work of engineering, seems to me that this gentleman knows by heart every minute detail of this engine, I wish to have the opportunity to see one of those in person, from Puerto Rico Jesus Torres.

    Try and get your 2019 car (any make) to run in the year 2134. Good luck with that. I'll bet that the Chevrolet will still start then.

      The engines in today's vehicle are to complex. Let's say the sensors for the for the rear-seat entertainment
      Centre is sensing there is a pixel drop in the video screen the vehicle
      will not start to do to this major malfunction. With older cars
      a major malfunction could something like an engine fire.
      However, the car would
      still start.

    In 1914 Chevrolet was still owned by Billy Durant but the 1904 patent for the push rod OHV engine was still owned by GM, so I'm not sure how Durant got around the patent. Durant had previously made pushrod engines when he owned Buick, which became GM, but by 1914 he was no longer with GM so he didn't have rights to the patent. It doesn't matter anyway because he made so much money with Chevrolet that he bought GM back a few years later, and GM bought Chevy, so he owned both companies and merged them so he could make all the OHV engines he wanted to. I think the managers of GM in 1914 when Durant was out of that company, probably didn't have to balls to sue him.

    • @darylsargent8099
      @darylsargent8099 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hyzercreek but Durant star 4 s used a flat head and that was an even later car built by Durant
      I was going to right a post at the bottom but ya I believe this engine has a Oldsmobile head on it if look at the exhaust pipe coming from the rear of the head chev hotrodders back in the day like to put the olds head on their engines for the better flow

      @@darylsargent8099 This car has valves in the head, Oldsmobile never had an overhead valve engine until 1949. Maybe you mean Buick not Olds. Buick invented the OHV engine and Chevy and Nash also used it because Louis Chevrolet and Charles Nash worked for Buick and got the OHV there. Walter Chrysler also used to work for Buick and started his company in 1925 but for some reason he made his cars with flatheads.

    No EGR valve, AIR pump, PCV valve, catalytic converter, and 2 miles of vacuum tubing. Simple engines with rear wheel drive. Makes you wonder, these cars could be fixed by a farmer working in a field on a hot day. Today, a mechanic in an air conditioned garage, with a computer powered engine diagnostic scope, connected to the cars internal computer system with its 22 sensors and relays, cannot tell you why it dies after start up. And it takes 4 returns to get it fixed, maybe.

  • @Circlotron
    @Circlotron 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I see only ~ONE~ exhaust port!!! Obviously the exhaust from all four valves is channeled through the head to that single outlet. That's a lotta lotta heat from a low comp engine getting dumped into the cooling water. I expect you have to be careful and watch the temp gauge when going up long hills. Thanks for the vid :-)

    You need a Stuarts Vacuum fuel delivery system for this car. I had a 1917 Royal Mail Roadster with the bigger 5 1/4 stroke motor with a self starter, driving was a lot of fun...I'll take it off your hands when you get tired of it.

There are nail holes on the Passenger Rear Door! The Engine is Like Yours with exposed Flywheel! Mine has a Electric Starter Chan Driven! And has Roller Lifters and Roller Rocker Arms! It Looks like a Stage Coach!

  • @ibsoarin

    I assume that the engine has a valve cover which protects the valve train from dirt and grime and a flywheel cover to protect the flywheel and clutch system.

    • @TestECull

      Nah. Mechanics would still be necessary. The average joe can barely program the clock on their fucking microwave, you want them to successfully adjust a carb?!

      @TestECull 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      I will wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. I do my own wrenching, I could easily enough handle living with a 1914 sedan as a daily as well. But we are not the average joe who sees their car as an appliance, a necessary evil to connect their urban desk job with their suburban home. They don't know, nor do they care to know, what's going on beneath the plastic and aluminum. All they care about is 'does it go y/n'.
      And people like that keep mechanics in good job security, which is nice, because that's my ultimate career once I get my ASE certs.
