What have we done?! It started with changing a light fixture, and now we are in a full-blown RV renovation on our 2021 Grand Design fifth wheel. Here's what it's really like to live full-time in an RV while remodeling it.

Take the window out! I have seen so many RVers do it. Can’t be too complex. Go for the back window.

That was my thought too. A dealer needed to replace mom's refrigerator in a class A and they took out the windshield to do it.

I pulled the tiny closets in our rig out and the under bed storage. Made a dresser and working on a padded headboard with storage on our travel trailer. Tight bedroom has plenty of walking and usable storage space.

I'm thinking it was just created for drama in the video. A Certified RV tech would know to take the window out first thing.

I'm here for the "removing a window" suggestions. 😊 When I worked in real estate, I saw clients do just that numerous times to get large pieces out of basements. Wondering if it would work on an RV. Love your content! ❤️

Yep. I had to take the window out of my 5th wheel when I got a new couch.
I never thought it was possible until I had to replace a frame less window frame, and the easiest way was to take the entire window frame-and-all

    • @BarryArwood

All I can say is I'm glad I waited and got EXACTLY the interior cabinets I wanted in my RV. It seems like all of the RVs today have very dark interiors, mine is glazed maple. I looked at a couple of kind of mahogany color interiors but they just weren't right, mine is glazed maple and perfect for us. I've remodeled 8 of our apartments with 2 more to go and I'm not remodeling our RV even though it does seem like all the rage right now. Good luck guys and I'll enjoy RV remodeling vicariously.

Perfect timing to find you video. We just picked up a "new-to-us" class-A, and we are already in Demo mode. hahahaha. Doing almost exactly what you two are doing, starting with removing all the "bulky" window treatments, the dinette seats, plus swapping out all the cabinet hardware to get this wonderful coach out of the '90's.. It is definitely an adventure.

If you like those (admittedly very dirty) chairs, they should be pretty easy to recover. I've recovered my dining room chairs many times over the years. All you need is a screwdriver and a staple gun. If you can do what I've already seen you do, then the chairs would be a piece of cake.

    • @lovelessm

Take the window off. Long story short, we bought a couch while we were boondocking in Flagstaff. It snowed. We struggled the same way you did. My husband got the impact gun. We got the window off and couch in before the baby got up!
I'm never taking this couch out of here in one piece but I really love this dumb Facebook marketplace couch.
I should also note I bought a little tiny orange couch from Wayfair and did the same thing when it came. Haha 😂 this is all wayy to relatable. Sold it in Nabraska to a lady opening a cafe

Totally changed out our Solitude as well. Black leather residential theater seats in the slide room next to a custom pub height table I made along very comfortable leather upholstered dining chairs. I narrowed the rear wall end tables and turned them into storage and then fit a European sleeper sofa in black leather that's longer and way more comfortable!!! These are designed to come apart considering the tight constraints of old European homes. They are also designed to be comfortable so that someone in a flat enjoys the sofa by day and bed by night...
Truth be told, you could have pulled out the slide to bring the couch in (not campground work though). Otherwise, it will fit through one of the slide room windows. They are easy to remove and replace, even the frameless like you have. I have had to bring refrigerators in/out this way!
    Good luck with your renovation!

Those table chairs would be super simple to recover with just some fabric and for the kid's chair some plastic over the fabric. The seats and back would come off super easy and then it is just unstapled the old fabric add new fabric with staples and then cover fabric on kid's chairs with plastic which can be gotten at fabric store also. Or you could get some fabric that is kid proof and can be simply washed off with a towel. I am seeing canvas for outdoor use that is waterproof. Usually comes with stripes on it, but it would be child proof.

I now know the feeling of OMG what have we done. We just remodeled the kitchen in our sticks and bricks house. Took everything out and totally gutted the room, like down to the studs, ran all new plumbing and electric in the walls like it was a new construction house. I walked it to look at it while everything was bare and definitely had the “omg, what have we done” feeling. But after 2 months of construction we are very happy we did it. Like you said. All part of the journey!

I couldn’t believe the couch wouldn’t fit in the door. I was thinking maybe try to go through a window. I think that’s how they do get the couches in is through a window. I think it is going to look beautiful when you’re done. You both always do a great job when you fix your Rvs up. Can’t wait to see it when it’s done. I faith in you both that it’s going to look beautiful. Hope you have a great night and week and see you soon!

  • @ChuckD2737
    @ChuckD2737 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Definitely, if the window fits the end of the couch you should be able to take out the frame and window to gain maximum opening size. Unfortunately over the years of working fire rescue we have had to do that to get patients out of usually mobile homes and it allowed the owner to replace the window usually with no damage. Good luck and I am looking forward to watching your success!!!

I wondered how long it would be before you started renovating. So disappointed about the couch not fitting through the door, loved that couch. I'm sure it's going to look fab when it's finished. The small blue couch did make me laugh, more like a small chair than a couch don't you think 😅🤣😅. Take care guys can't wait to see the end results. ❤❤🇬🇧

I used to work in RV service. We would take the window out for large items like sofas and fridges.

OMG! talk about pulling the trigger!! We still may do some paintiing in ours and I'd love to replace the couch with a couple recliners.

The walls look nice and new, hope the rest of it works out, and you find just the right couch and love seat, table and cleanable chairs. Best of luck.

Omg!!! This is a repeat of us putting our residential refrigerator in our Bounder. We had to remove the door down to the bare walls. All for a couple inches more. THAN!!!, I wanted to remove our booth. Love table and chairs so much. Marissa I know how you feel. It seem that what ever you want to do causes a major hassle not to mention the clutter. I am reliving my stress with you. Hang in there the end results are well worth it. I am planning on doing over our bedroom now😟

Hey guys I'm a interior designer so remodeling renovating is my thing yes someone mentioned the window great idea I've also seen some people remove there slide out and tho.you didn't ask my opinion can I just say perhaps going with a day bed would better much better for your family than the blue couch the blue couch not only is to small but it looks very uncomfortable trust me I've done an rv before with a daybed and you can dress a day bed up to look like a couch with lots of pillows but I'm sure by now you have it all figured out and I can't wait to see the end product as always great video content great family makeing memories thanks for sharing

I loved that gold couch. Can’t believe you got rid of it. Not a fan of the new color but it’s not my RV. That door placement is definitely not ideal for getting furniture in. I was yelling at the TV to remove a window but you didn’t hear me. 😂 Happy you have lots of help. Missed Hensley.

You guys are so brave!!! I'm sorry you had to get rid of your Mother's Day couch, though. I thought maybe your RV-Tech friend would remove the slide or something so you could get it inside after all. LOL I can't wait to see how that all turns out. We have been bingeing your content from the very beginning for several months, now, we we finally caught up. So we definitely feel like part of your family. Thanks for so many hours of encouragement and entertainment. We love how REAL you are and how you show the good, the bad, and the ugly rather than trying to sugarcoat everything. Keep up the good work!

Take out the window! Couch will fit easily through the windows. They are just attached with the trim piece from the inside.
    Very simple
