    good on you for taking those rest days! theyre very important for enjoying exercise and you come back stronger each time. I do skipping as well, but if I’m sore, I don’t go for it.
    I also gained weight the first week; it’s totally normal. It’s probably the water retention in the muscle tears.

    Nice one. I started the couch to 5k and learnt that for me to avoid injury I have to do a lot of double rest days rather than one. But that's kept me going whereas hurting myself in past attempts has put me out for months.
    It's hard to listen to your body saying "calm down mate" when you're so desparate for gains/losses and you see progress. But it's the key.
    Looking forward to your next experiment!

    For one month, this is a massive achievement! One month challenges are a bit misleading and many videos on TH-cam are fake because one month really isn't enough time to notice big changes. It takes about 3 months at least to see big improvements as I'm finding with working out!
    You did really well to make this video!

    I really noticed more cuts in the side of your waist from the back. That’s also really interesting that your biceps got bigger. Definitely noticeable for only 30 days! Nice job

  • @Rasooli
    @Rasooli 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Nice job Cookie! Keep it up man. Some advice: Always work both sides of a joint to avoid imbalances. I believe your pain in your shin is due to the fact that your workouts are making your calve muscles stronger. Much stronger, compared to the front muscles of your calves, leading to that muscle not being able to compensate for all the repeated stretching. Try to throw in some tibialis workouts in there!

  • @What-oi9oc
    @What-oi9oc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The pain you were feeling in the inside of your shins are shin splints I believe. They can be caused from doing little running then doing a lot of running or jump roping in your case. Can be fixed with rest or you can just push through them.

    • @usedsweatpants799
      @usedsweatpants799 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pushing through will only aggravate the issue . the cause of shin splints is inflammation so you don't want to push on something that can turn into severe damage. being overweight doesn't help so you gotta stop immediately the exercise , give it a really good rest and look up for alternatives that won't stress the shins for at least a week or 2.

    Great work! My doctor gave me some advice that is applicable here. My workout game was decent but I was still overweight. He said you gotta look at food as the front end and calorie burn as the back end. If your workouts are burning 200-300 calories, that's fantastic! But your problem is actually on the front end. One cupcake or one brownie above your caloric maintenance level and you've blown your hard work entirely. Your approach has to be a double edged sword of front end and back end.
    I'm down 12 lbs this year and my jump rope arrives today. I've just been eating more consciously with a goal of 2000cal a day, lifting weights, and trying to get at least 10,000 steps a day.

    • @saleemhussain4634
      @saleemhussain4634 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely spot on there mate.
      Nutrition is probably about 70% and exercise 30%. And I say nutrition instead of a diet because diet implies something temporary where as nutrition should be the new good habit you go forward with your life.
      How's your jump rope going?
      I've been going for about 2 weeks with jump rope, plus more consistently healthy meals and weights and I've noticed a difference already.
      Losing 12lbs at the time of your comment is a great achievement! Great stuff!

    • @SixString_J5
      @SixString_J5 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@saleemhussain4634 Actually, I haven’t jumped rope in almost 3 weeks😬. I have gotten more dedicated to lifting weights and dialing in my nutrition. I’ve had some lapses here and there but it’s always my nutrition that focuses me back. As of today I’m down 23 lbs this year. I’ve gone from 25%bf to16%bf. I’m VERY close to my target weight and I’ll need to add about 200-300 cal /day to get about my maintenance level

    just watched your video, really liked it because it was honest and your five day rest made sense. I have had to have two days between sessions of skipping. I do 10 seconds work and 10 rest, being over 40 goes against me but, I am determined to keep this up. Need to loose around 1.5 stone at the very least. My question is, did you keep on doing the skipping? I hope so, skipping is really been a life saver for me, and its the only exercise that genuinely makes me not feel bad if I'm not doing well that day. I genuinely smile if I fudge my form or the rope catches my foot. Thanks again!

    After I moved, I couldn't go to the gym for cardio and I couldn't jump rope due to ceiling being low. So I did cordless jump rope for 30 minutes per day (30 sets of 45 sec of "jump roping" and 15 sec rest). I lost 500 cal per workout and lost 2 pounds per week when combined with good diet. It was better than running.

    FYI.... You have three muscles in your calf. The ‘‘soleus muscle” lies like a pancake just under the “gastrocnemius muscle” (which is the largest surface muscle that you see in your calf) In some people (overweight/out-of-condition) those two muscles can become ‘sticky and slightly-fused’ on the inner-surfaces-the pain comes from the slow tearing/separation of the two muscle surfaces that the workout causes/allows for. It’s a return to a healthier status and movement-they should slide smoothly across each other.... The best thing to do is work through the pain, and use some days of rest and massage... just like you were doing. Also, muscles weight more than fat... the weight increase corresponded to muscle-increase. ... it’s not really the weight ‘numbers’ that matter, it’s healthy muscle-tone and condition.

    Another thing mate is the longer you do this for the body adapts and u will see very little in body shape change but more in stamina as that is basically the main reasons boxers skip for better stamina.
    I am no gym freak but how about trying to do plank right after you skip as your body especially legs are tight getting your body in that plank position helps stretch your leg muscles to help heal and also to help flex but also if you keep your core tensed will help reduce waist and shrink stomach and helps with shoulders , chest And posture.
    Hope you keep up the skipping it's a great exercise and also something you can do with just little time and you actually looked healthy in the later parts of the video so great stuff.

      Seriously tho mate half a stone in just over 4 weeks is a great loss and If u carry on but also do the plank for a min or so afterwards It would be great if u could inform me on any future losses as I might just start skipping again 15 weeks no gym with lockdown and my belly is back lol.

    I am currently 254 lbs, and started walking/jogging (targeting to get back my stamina), a bit of home workout (I don't have the confidence yet to go in the gym looking like a blob) and picked Intermittent fasting (18hours fast, 6 hours eating the right amount). My first week was like a warm up only since it has been years since I have done any physical activity, I just started the real running earlier this morning and my calves are hurting, this might be the week i will be doing some rest days. I thought of doing jump rope also in my first week but when I tried it I think I just might get an injury and will set me back again physically and mentally. I don't want any setbacks again. It will just kill my motivation again. I really want to do jump roping because my friends say it is a better cardio work out than jogging and I am in a tropical country where running outside will be impossible when the Rainy season starts so doing jump rope at home will save me the misery from not being able to run. So right now before I get serious with jump rope, I am trying to cut back weight for at least 20-30 lbs. I am really excited to start with jump rope and I really want to start soon!

    Maybe it’s the the way you are standing but your lats in the after photo is much wider, you’ve got that V taper starting up.
    There’s definitely a difference there.

    When starting jump rope people experience pains in a smal muscle in front of your leg. When inflamed it almost feel like you broke your leg. Ice and rest fix it quickly

    That pain on the inside of your lower limb is shin splints. You were probably jumping to high off the ground to start off with and the repeated pounding caused injury. You were right to take a rest 👍🏻

    I see you work out on your bare feet. For a beginner that is a big no, no! One of the reasons you might have gotten shin splints in the early stages. Not only bare feet but also uneven surface.
    Other than that! You're doing a great job by doing this and listening to your body when it's asking for rests. I'm going to start my skipping journey too! 😂
