1990-93 Honda Accord Fuel Filter Replacement

  • I still haven't got this 1990 Honda Accord, but I thought replacing the fuel filter would make a difference, but I didn't get the fuel pump to begin to function, I am still happy that I replaced it as a preventative maintenance since this car has been sitting for almost 10 years

    I’m 50 and just bought my first import car a 1990 Honda Accord EX with 80,000 for $1,200. I still have to buy a set of tires and a complete exhaust.
    Thanks to you I was going nuts trying to find the fuel filter.

    I had a problem of full power then loss of power while driving. I use this video and changed fuel filter and I have no more power issues. Thanks

    don't drop the tank just carefully use a diamond edge cutting wheel on top of the fuel pump inside of the trunk and make yourself an access port. and after just sand down the edges and duct tape some cardboard on top of it. Worked wonders for me and thanks for the fuel filter video. My Honda accord sat for 2 years broken down and I had to replace the following; fuel pump, spark plugs, engine air filter, battery, alternator (2 times), front brake assembly (including wheel bearings), and front brake lines. Previous owner had already replaced main fuse and I was able to plug and play a Honda prelude s ecu into my car because its the same connectors and the prelude s shares the exact same engine with just better tuning for more hp. Also I used seafoam fuel additive and seafoam spray to clean up the internals of the engine.

      I struggled for 3 hours (quebec rust on 30 yr old car) with the tank straps before I saw this comment. Works great. Keep a wet rag and good fire extinguisher nearby

    for all of you watching. this it totally ATYPICAL. The was as easy as it can get doing a fuel filter. And kid, quit throwing parts at the damn thing. Get a factory service manual and a volt ohm meter. start reading and start diagnosing. If you havent figured it out yet. Im pretty sure you need to replace the main relay or refurbish it by reflowing the solder on the PCB. 90% of no start/pump problems is the main relay.

      I was experiencing some of the same issues with my 1992 accord. I ended up replacing the fuel pump, filter, injectors, distributor (x3), charcoal canister, MAP sensor, like….everything. And it’s having the same issue it had last year. Each time those parts were tested and found bad and replaced, it had the same issue. No matter what. The ONLY time this car has run like an absolute top was about a month ago. It ran like a dream until the week before may 10th of this year. Gonna replace my fuel filter today since I’ve done plugs, wires and dizzy again. I’ve been running B12 Chen tool in it since it started having a fueling issue and that cleared it up a little bit but it’s mostly still the same issue.

    Protip guys be real careful with that control box above the filter, u dont want to crack the vaccum lines on the map sensor ur car will run like dogshit

    I just replaced the main relay after i was having issue due to the car not starting after driving it about 2 blocks. It would crank over but wouldn't get gas. It works great now.

      Try turning the key in the ignition only enough to hear the fuel injector ,not to start it. repeat 2 or 3 times to introduce fuel , Then try turning it over.

    Jump the Main Relay. Bypass Continuous Hot 12V (Yellow-Gry) with Fuel Pump (Yellow-Grn) (see John Edwards: 1994 Honda Civic Pump Relay Location or see Nwaboosted: Honda Main Relay Fix). If this works, the issue is a ignition - starter - fuel pump disconnect.
    I figured this out because my Alarm was going bad and stopped engaging the Fuel from priming. So I rewired the Ignition wires, under the steering wheel, which provided the electrical power to the Fuel Pump. No Issues now, starting a 1992 Acura Integra 280,000+ miles.
    Also when you Jump the Main Relay, this is not a permanent fix. It is bad for the fuel pump to be continuously running. Also you cannot turn off your car with the key in the ignition. You either have to pull the Jump Wire or Main Relay.
    So if Jumping the Main Relay works - then, as in my case, it was the wiring in the starter - ignition - fuel pump wires under the steering wheel. Hope that helps.

    Do you know why my new fuel filter would be leaking? I put the new little washer in there and everything and made sure it screwed in right and wasn't stripping the threads and it's leaking gas out of the right smaller hole when I run the car. Took it apart and put it back together 4 times and even bought a new fuel filter and no matter what it leaks every time. I've looked at every single one of these videos on TH-cam and it doesn't seem to be happening to anybody else

      @@elijahj9902 turns out the fuel filters from autozone are absolute shit. I got another one from autozone and it did the same thing so I got a third one from O'Reillys and it didn't leak or spray fuel

    I had the same problem. My relay went bad and now another issue came up. The key in the ignition takes forever to switch off and take out and I cannot shift out of park

      Honestly when I make this video i just hand tightened it I'm sure there is a torque speck for it
