I’m not exactly sure why, but this is my favorite song of hers. FYI, she was George Michael’s all time favorite female singer. He really wanted to do a duet with her, but that obviously never happened.

He did a great cover of Love Is A Losing Game at a concert just after she died. I know there`s no performance video of it but I think he`d really enjoy Like Smoke from Lioness as it`s a duet with Nas who is one of his heroes.

My favourite too. Bought the album when it came out and this one just grabbed me. I'd like to think that she's up there jamming with Donna Summer, Teena Marie, George Michael, George Harrison, John Lennon, and maybe even Bowie too. Xx

Amy was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues and jazz.
Many of Winehouse's maternal uncles were professional jazz musicians. Amy's paternal grandmother, Cynthia, had been a singer and had dated the English jazz saxophonist Ronnie Scott.
She was heavily influenced by jazz singers Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington, and her father Mitch used to sing Frank Sinatra songs to her growing up.

I just have to comment on Amy Winehouse! So I never even listened to her music until I heard Back to Black, and I immediately loved her in every way! Who knew at 64, I would find yet another amazing singer-songwriter?? I love this song, but I love all her songs! Also have to say her band, and backup singers & dancers are so absolutely great too!! I just love her lyrics & the uniqueness of her old soul voice, and her delivery, even her so sad story made her so great! If only someone loved her enough to keep her safe & sound! 😢

Next time you both decide to react to Amy Winehouse give a reaction to her songs Love Is A Losing Game or Wake Up Alone. Her voice in both songs is hauntingly beautiful and you can hear/feel her vulnerability in these songs. Two of her best in my opinion.
She was inspired by the likes of Frank Sinatra, The Ronettes, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett and Louis Armstrong to name a few she loved her jazz and soul music

When she's walking down the street with the dress loose and slipping off the shoulder it reminds me of an old Italian black and white movie with a lady just like that. Same atmosphere.
Amy's songs are real. She wasn't afraid of singing about the darker parts of life. And nobody phrases the way she does. There's a power she lets loose. ❤️

I was at least 45, yeah. And ignored her for so long because she was a tabloid pop star and I usually find that just useless for music. How so so so so wrong I was. An all timer. Literally in the mix with Ella, Billie and Sarah, tho no on touches Aretha for me.

Check out “Love is a losing game” and “Me and Mr Jones” next. Amy really liked the Motown girl groups, that’s what you hear in her music (along with her jazz and soul influences).

I love this song! This is Mark Ronson's take on the song. He got her, understood what she wanted to do. Her influences are the jazz greats like Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. Find the songs she did on the show Later with Jools Holland. She does some jazz classics as well as her own songs. Her version of Teach Me Tonight is classic. And maybe Anita O'Day's set from the movie Jazz On A Summer's Day. Big influence on her.

Billie Holiday was the first jazz singer to re-define the genre by bringing in 'breathy',
'whisper' like responses that no one in this genre had ever done before. Then Amy
comes along and re-defines the genre once again by a unique style of 'slurring' words
and radically injecting, mid- sentence 'key' changes. Her writing was impeccable as well.
Today, there is a young jazz singer who incorporates what Billie and Amy were known for
whenever she sings a heartfelt ballad and that is Angelina Jordan, the reigning 'Queen Of
Jazz'. George Michael believed the best written song he ever heard was Amy's 'Love Is A
Losing Game'. When Amy was presented with her Grammy for her 'Back To Black' album,
which contained the two songs I mentioned, Adele could be seen in the audience acting
like an out of control school girl. Angelina Jordan actually visited the London home of Amy
and was photographed hugging the life like statue of Amy in front of the house. Like Adele
and Angelina were to Amy, Billie Holiday was 'definitely' the jazz singer Amy looked up to.
To hear elements of all their voices in Angelina's covers of Adele's 'All I Ask' and 'Easy On Me'
are truly two songs you should listen to, for I've never heard an individual singer bring forth
the intricate, complexity of what sounds like 4 superstar singers in an individual song except
    Angelina.

I saw her live twice. First time in 2007 as a support act to The Arctic Monkeys at Old Trafford. She was AMAZING! Sadly second time was a few years later at V Festival North when she was slurring, forgetting her lyrics etc and was booed by the crowd. It was so sad to see the slide and overall, her whole story is just so tragic. She had such natural talent and who knows the songs she may have gone on to give the world if she hadn’t have died so young. At least she left us with her Back to Black album, which remains one of my favourite albums and showcases her stunning voice. RIP Amy x

    Her influences were the girl
Bands of the 60’s like the Shangrila’s and the ronettes but also super jazz heavy like Tony Bennett and dinah Washington-
She was a master at improvised singing as well.
    Truly missed. Rip

Amy told Tony Bennett during their duet recording session that Dinah Washington was her god. BTW...Tony says she's a legit jazz singer. Most pop artists don't get that compliment!!!

Her parents, more specifically her dad was a music lover and introduced her to all the greats in jazz and also all the crooners and soul singers. Her look was inspired by Ronnie Spector and The Ronnettes and even her song Back to Black is derivitive of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound which was The Ronnette's singnature sound.

I love this song. You can really hear the musical influences she had in this one. I think her look was based on looks of the same era. I see Amy in the girl group The Shirelles, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" (1961). It is a song written by Carole King and partner Gerry Goffin. If you want to see Amy fangirling, check out the duet by Tony Bennett and her "Body and Soul".

I'd love to see and hear you two react to "Love Is a Losing Game." I was gonna try to fool an oldies fan I used to work with, and tell her that it was an old lost Etta James song from the 60s but she would have seen right through that. It sounds like 1960s Etta for sure.

I really think Jay would love to see the live concert because it's a whole scene. backup singers and other musicians are amazing to watch. Live in londan 2007 was an emotional concert right after she got married.

Have you guys listened to “Rehab”? Strangely, that was my first exposure to her talent, a sad irony of life. Great talent, still missed.

Many of Winehouse's maternal uncles were professional jazz musicians. Amy's paternal grandmother, Cynthia, had been a singer and had dated the English jazz saxophonist Ronnie Scott. She and Amy's parents influenced Amy's interest in jazz

I would say a big influence was definetly Ronnie Spector, lead singer of the Ronettes and such, She did a tribute to Amy Winehouee actually like 10 years ago aswell!

Yes she was down to her makeup, beehive and her vibe . Ronnie brought out the true Amy and blessed us with both of them. Her other influences were also other blues artists like Etta James.

@@ms.dirtybird7779 Oh right Etta too! Amy really gave both of them good recognition

Have you guys reacted to Rehab yet? It’s another upbeat song, and one of Amy’s most popular. It might have been her breakthrough hits in the US. that or Valerie

My favorite song of hers, her tone and phrasing -chills up my spine. So cool.
Have to think growing up in UK Dusty Springfield had to be a big influence (her early stuff is traditional R&B/Jazz) plus the panda makeup and beehive look. Both are national treasures and both taken way too soon.

Just a cool note of nobody mentioned. This song is an interpolation of “ain’t no mountain high enough” it’s so interesting to me considering this song is more of conceding your position in someone life and “ain’t no mountain high enough” is pledging commitment basically
