He makes an excellent point. There is no "best" actor, director, choreographer, etc. It's just one of the bests in the same room, and one of them happened to deliver the better performance the time. Like when my coach says, "They were the better team that day"
john Baldock we really do, he still gets nominated for everything (NTA's and the Brits etc) yet he's in America but we just want him to return here! Come back James, do a league of your own again or something, we miss you!!
As much as I am in love with Hamilton I really hope some of the other musicals get to win awards! Would be sad to have their voices drowned out just because they were unlucky enough to be on the same nominee list as this major phenomenon.
Really? While corden was being banned from restaurants and essentially outed as an unsavory character, conan was paying his full staff as his writers joined the writer strike picket lines… or maybe the fact that conan split his nbc buyout equally with his staff (over 60 people). You want a genuine late night hero, it aint corden… its conan
I love that James felt that a standing ovation, the highest form of praise you can show at a live theatrical performance, wasn't enough praise for Hamilton. I think that so many people who have seen the show feel this way. It really speaks to the magnificence of the show.
Liked the hugs in the end..two genuine, precious human beings who agree on the fact that we're all citizens of the world , just human beings living on this planet! The terrible thing is that almost nobody realizes this ..the consequences are devastating..see boundaries, wars, fights...and so on...Keep up the good work , James, I love you!
"There's no such thing as best. You don't win and start walking around New York saying you're the best" That's cause you're humble! I won best supporting actress in my senior year of high school (which was like 3 years ago) and I still talk about that shit! You want extra sauce on your mcchicken? PFFFT! Do you know who I am?! Would you request extra sauce from Idina Menzel??
Hamilton was the first to win a major title for his second straight start in a row against his rivals for his first two seasons in a bit of the national institute of high quality medical school wtf
Once Jimmy Kimmel is finished hosting the Oscars, James Corden should be next on the list of hosts. Team him with a co-host with Oscar cred (Anna Kendricks?) and what a show that would be!
Very true, tickets are thousands. However, the majority of Hamilton fans have never seen the full musical, rather clips and only listened to the cast album.
I think 10 or 20 seats are reserved each show for a lottery system you can enter online. If you get it, it's a $10 ticket. Lin-Manuel is (was) aware of how expensive the shows are
+Anne in my opinion as a new fan, if any show deserves a recording of the stage production ala Phantom at the Royal Albert Hall it would be Hamilton. If only to give people that can't afford tickets the option of actually SEEING the show. I love the cast album, and I'm someone who usually doesn't like rap music.
Is James Corden from England, or Britain? If he's from Britain, he's an angel compared to what you expect from Brits. They aren't mean, really, more like they would be like Chihuahua's. Talk tough, but I'm pretty sure just Scottish are tough. Irish are more drunk, than tough. I do hope tho that they do have good people and more are shown. We need good people in the world nowadays.
I ove Stephen with all my heart, but it was really rude to say that there is nothing else on broadway right now. Other people have worked on their shows just as much as the cast and crew of Hamilton. This season is one of the best of the last years but hamilton is getting all the attention and is fucking annoying.
+Violetta Sele Agreed. I love Hamilton to bits, but it's a crying shame for other wonderful works and other talented people to be overshadowed by it. Lin is a class act and a big believer in the Broadway community; I'm sure Hamilton will take home some statues and I hope he uses his stage time to shine the light back on those other shows.
I agree, but that's what happens when something like Hamilton comes about. I wasn't around for the start of musicals like RENT, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, or Chicago, but those musicals (among others) must have had the same response. They are a part of pop culture, they are some of the musicals people think of when they think Broadway. Hamilton has joined them. The other talented works and actresses do deserve recognition, but they're not going to go down in history. They'll probably be forgotten about in a few years, unless you're an absolute Broadway buff. The same can be said for films and albums. Lots of them get put out in a year, and a lot are great, but only a few get remembered, and they are usually the ones that win the most awards, and transcend the industry and culture they're in.
it's like any "big blockbuster" that beats out other movies. There will always be a "popular hit" or a "phenomenon" that comes along that will overshadow other works of art. As james said, it doesn't mean it's the best, it just means that there's more hype about it.
I love Hamilton with all my heart, but how can he say there was nothing else that season, when there were shows like deaf wests spring awakening also being nominated
I suspect he didn’t mean it to sound as derogatory as it came out. To students of theater and the history of musical theater, Hamilton goes beyond “blockbuster movie” status. Musical theater as an art form has been around for a very long time, so for someone to redefine what is considered possible in the genre AND to do so in a way that earns such widespread praise (both in the theater community and in communities typically far removed from the theater community) is virtually unheard of. I literally can’t think of a musical that had such mass appeal, and it didn’t have to compromise its appeal to theater nerds to get that outside recognition. That in no way is meant to diminish the other amazing work that was created by other artists. It’s similar to the acknowledgement that a work of true genius shines so bright that it becomes the only thing anyone can see. The smartest person you’ve ever met is gonna look dumb sitting next to Stephen hawking in math class. And even if Hamilton doesn’t appeal to you, you still have to acknowledge that it has objectively had a profound impact on what is considered possible in the musical theater genre
He makes an excellent point. There is no "best" actor, director, choreographer, etc. It's just one of the bests in the same room, and one of them happened to deliver the better performance the time. Like when my coach says, "They were the better team that day"
Honestly love how genuine Corden is! AND funny. these two combinations are rarely mutually exclusive.
"What am I doing? Why is this unnecessary pressure on my life?" :D My "life-motto" all the time :D
Paischi just read this comnent as he said it
Paischi
Same, we have massive, important exams coming up in school and if I fail, I die... so I’m relating so much right now.🤣😂😭😢
I like how theater-geeks have taken over alot of late-night television!
The geeks shall inherit the earth ;D
Right?
Right! And watching late night shows rekindled my love for musicals :)
Richard Sangeleer cordon: Queen of the theatre geeks!❤️
ugh I loves James so much. He's so adorable and genuine.
Big Guy, Big kindness, Big Love! We miss You In England.
Well England had him, USA has him, When does Canada Get Him??
Theatre Addict 95 When exactly? We don't get many stars!!!!!! Though, we did have Ramin Karimloo for a second there!
Big cheeks
john Baldock we really do, he still gets nominated for everything (NTA's and the Brits etc) yet he's in America but we just want him to return here! Come back James, do a league of your own again or something, we miss you!!

*sigh, cries*
Lauren Metzdorff IM ALREADY DEPRESSED WHY DID U MAKE ME THINK OF THAT SONG!! 😂
Alexander come back to sleep.... (yawns and rubs eyes)
"The prize is being nominated. The prize is being in the room-" where it happens? :)
I was thinking the exact same thing. I might be listening to Hamilton too much
I reject your entire premise. There is no such thing as listening to Hamilton too much.
3 days ago I would not have understood that reference.
I thought this exactly.
I want to be in the room where it happens (the room where it happens, the room where it happens)
I see Lin Manuel Miranda, I click. James Corden is in it? Bonus!
I'm living for the non-stop Hamilton references in this comment section!
Tamar Brandes-Krug can you watch Hamilton not at the play? Or do u have to go and have time off from work and have the money
a couple years ago james corden was just an awkward chubby guy who rented his house out to an alien
Love this.
Yeah
I come for Hamilton
I get Doctor who.
Best day of my life.
This dude is a human koala bear...
Nah, that's Lin.
UM BOTH
ffs, just call it a koala. no one in oz says 'koala bear'
our friend james corden
No, he's a teddy bear.
I really want to see Colbert hosting a major award show.
he hosted the Kennedy Center Honors
The Tonys are a major award show fam
TheNXD7 Stephen's never hosted the Tonys though.
He could do great hosting the Oscars though
Sofia Calderon Exactly, and we are in dire need of someone like him for the Oscars. He is super witty, he can tone his humour down to family friendly.
I don't really watch Cordon's show, but I love his attitude. He's so genuinely grateful to be wherever he is all the time.
His show is amazing
I love how humble and grounded James Corden is! So refreshing to hear him talk!👏🏽❤️
he is just so adorable and humble! Love his show!
"you dont have to tell us who you went fishing with" - NOBODY NEEDS TO KNOW
James CORDEN is so humble and adorable. (;
Just watched the Broadway Carpool for the tenth time. I love you, Corden!
I can't stop laughing at the arm movements James did when he ran up the stairs to his seat. That was amazing!
Even his entrance was cute bro ❤
I know right! ❤️😊
He looks so happy to be there 😇🥰😇
Am I the only one who expected him to say “being in the room where it happens” when he says “being in the room?”
They talk about Manuel Miranda from 4:18
James is such a happy guy! And he's an absolutely brilliant tv host
As much as I am in love with Hamilton I really hope some of the other musicals get to win awards! Would be sad to have their voices drowned out just because they were unlucky enough to be on the same nominee list as this major phenomenon.
I'm surprised CBS didn't go a step further and make them wear identical ties.
he seems so genuinely nice... Funny too to me
He arranged the meeting, the menu, the venue, the seating!
Haven't watched the video yet, but my word would I love to see Stephen interview Conan. Maybe Jon Stewart again too. :)
stephen colbert interviewing conan would be amazing
next level from standing ovation should be fireworks
And streamers, definitely streamers 🎉🎉🎉
It's impossible not to like this guy.
Am I the only one that knows him from Doctor Who, not from the car karaoke videos?
Hahaha I remember him from DW! Craig!
I loved him in Doctor Who so the fact that he is such a huge name now here in America makes me really happy.
yes! oh Craig
Mel Malfoy Craig!! Love him.
I'm just waiting for Stormageddon to start the apocalypse.
2:40
*he was in the room where it happens*
the adoption of the constant use of the word 'like'.. pretty american Corden
I said the constant use. He used it as an adolescent american girl would, as punctuation, to split ideas
don't get me wrong, I think the guy is awesome. It was just silly joke.
Yeah I'm British and I say "like" like that all the time ;)
DESTROYED 😂😂😂
Two favorites. Please make a regular segment with just them two having conversations like this!
Hamilton is with no doubt the best peice of art I have ever witnessed in my entire life!😍
Two smart asses! Hahaha James Cordon never misses a chance to strike back. :D
I'm new to the Colbert world, I'm loving this f**king guy.
He looks so shy when coming out!
dee ? He's thanking that audience welcoming him
everybody had a James Corden in their class. he liked everybody and everybody liked him.
A marshmallow and a cupcake in one room... d'aw
I love that James felt that a standing ovation, the highest form of praise you can show at a live theatrical performance, wasn't enough praise for Hamilton. I think that so many people who have seen the show feel this way. It really speaks to the magnificence of the show.
When Corden won his Tony, he was "lucky" to beat James Earl Jones, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Frank Langella and John Lithgow.
Dancers throw their shoes and hats at the performer when their performance is incredible.
I think ladies throw their knickers at Tom Jones.
I love their dynamic.
Hey! Don't make my story better and then take it away from me! 😂😂😂
This will be my survival tactics from now on, after I mess up something I'll just say ladies and gentlemen: *HAMILTON*
"James! Don't make my story better and take it away from me!" hahaha!!!
Colbert for Tonys 2017.
James is a delight, and he was SUCH a good host.
"There's no such thing as best. You don't win and start walking around New York saying you're the best"
That's cause you're humble! I won best supporting actress in my senior year of high school (which was like 3 years ago) and I still talk about that shit!
You want extra sauce on your mcchicken? PFFFT! Do you know who I am?! Would you request extra sauce from Idina Menzel??
Could James be any cuter? What a ball of adorableness.
Idk why but James reminds me of Tom Holland in this vid.
Ok ok so my two favorite talk show host talking about one of my favorite Broadway smol bean
HELL YA
STEPHEN WHO DID YOU GO FISHING WITH?
Martin Scorsese
+gigi stoner James was joking.
James, you were great in Begin Again.
*James Cordan comes on*
Me- WHERE IS MY SON
James- Crap it’s a hamilfan
I love James Corden, but Stephen Colbert is actually really funny too
Hey, the two CBS Talk show gods. they're both great
It sounds like James is saying Lin-Mamuel instead of Lin-Manuel...
He's so adorable I can't 😍
I remember him from Gavin and Stacey!
Hamilton was the first to win a major title for his second straight start in a row against his rivals for his first two seasons in a bit of the national institute of high quality medical school wtf
James Corden is so great!
it's crazy how many people love James but he is pretty cool and a little funny.
*rips off arm, beats head, trades it with a stranger, and walks home with a hairy arm that smells suspiciously like fish.*
Once Jimmy Kimmel is finished hosting the Oscars, James Corden should be next on the list of hosts. Team him with a co-host with Oscar cred (Anna Kendricks?) and what a show that would be!
James seems like such a sweet and kind guy
Yes, and he's also amazing.
So Stephen went fishing with Martin Scorsese on his vacation? Ah I can picture it.
scorsese was the bait
James reminds me of my hamster :D
HAHA
how does your hamster host a late night tv show?
Charlie Clifton-Brown
Very professionally.
How does a hamster, rodent, fluffy little pet and an animal grow up to be a tv presenter?
canonhead This is what they call American Dream: be just a hamster in Britain, move to the US and make it big.
Everybody's talking about how revolutionary this play is that only the most privileged can view.
Very true, tickets are thousands. However, the majority of Hamilton fans have never seen the full musical, rather clips and only listened to the cast album.
Is that right? Oh okay then. :)
I think 10 or 20 seats are reserved each show for a lottery system you can enter online. If you get it, it's a $10 ticket. Lin-Manuel is (was) aware of how expensive the shows are

James feels lucky to be alive right now
I like how all the late night people seem supportive of one another. It's nice.
I want to see James doing exactly what Stephen said
Yes, we should come up with sth better than a standing ovation
..."so on my side was sitting will smith and the act was so spectacular that all the audience trade arms.... -well THAT explains a lot!"
He did a wonderful job hosting the Tonys Awards!
Late Night Show Host Interviewing a Late Night Show Host. (:

A talk show host with a talk show host on a talk show

"and other name drops"
Please, James, please fall over.
Love him
I really want to now who Stephen went fishing with now
Corden so naturally funny, watchable. Colbert less so. Interesting.
