For this trap to work, you need to alter it. Start with a much larger container. 55 Gallon for example. Go up about 1/3rd from the bottom and pack it with a tight layer of balloons. Then lay seeds around the perimeter of each balloon. The rat goes up the ramp, sniffs or sees the food. He jumps down and either pops the balloon or starts nibbling around the edges of the balloon. When it pops, he's too far down to jump out. At least, that's my theory.

Those other videos using captive wild rats is absolute animal torture. I'm subbed to those channels just to report them whenever they come out with a new video.

My local news station mentioned that rats hate the smell of lavender. The report was about animals such as squirrels and rats making nests under car hoods, and they suggested spraying lavender oil to deter rats.
I never forget that one video of you proofing how smart rats are. That was the one with the rat that used a stick to pop the trap and after setting is off with the stick ran of with the baith.

I am wondering if it would work if the balloon was down in the container far enough so the rat had to set on the balloon completely to reach the seeds.
The slow motion sound is actually how the rat hurted smaller animals perceive time slower than we do so the balloon popping probably sounded like that loud boom but probably a lot slower and it could actually see the balloon rip open and it appeared to go in slow motion which is why it could Escape for falling in the bucket
I knew that balloon was gonna blow before a rodent set foot on it but I wasn’t prepared for that explosion of legs latex and sunflower seeds at 2:04 😂😂😂😂
I bet it would work if the balloon was deeper inside the bucket. Really though, it's not very practical. Only one per balloon unless you get really lucky. Great video as always Shawn.
Would inflating the balloon lower in the bucket, so the rats have to jump down or at least be a considerable way in the bucket to get the bait have any effect on the results of this test?
I could've sworn that was Bullwinkle's sidekick Rocky! But it does work! It works by giving any poor rodent who manages to pop it a heart attack! AND soon enough the rats will learn to associate your barn with that popping sound, and will never return.
