Hey Micah..... 20 + years as a first responder along with being an avid outdoorsman, backpacker, mountaineer, camper, fisherman and hunter. Understand this one suggestion I have! Never, ever rinse a wound in dirtied water... What you did dipping your hand in that river invited a huge host of microbes which will reek havoc not only on your epidermis (top layer of skin but also on the 2nd layer (the dermis) and if by chance any of those dorsal or pectoral fins punctured down to the fat layer of your body). Doing this, you are invited a huge chance of infection at all three levels... With that as CJ said get all rings, bracelets, etc. off of the affected area of the body..... As always suggested carry an extensive first aid kit (especially in your situation, being on your own and out in an area we're no one is around to help). You need to depend on yourself to treat any type of wound. Just because you have a cell phone does not guarantee you can get help. So to end this rant, having Betadine and a form of Lidocaine always as part of your first aid kit is a must along with a wound flush such as DermaKlenz Wound Cleanser (this is what I use but get whatever you can find/afford). Wound wash to cleanse, Betadine to kill bacteria and lidocaine to help with topical/subdermal pain in this situation. To end this Bro, you need a good Med bag and maybe a little education on what is needed if you are hurt while out on these excursions.... Reach out if you need some help putting a bag together and please do not rely on those you buy on-line. Take the time to research and make your own. God Bless, thank you for what you do/share with all of us!!! Erik
Dude Micah, as a former Army medic, any time you experience trauma remove all your jewlery from the affected area immediately. As you saw with your ring once your hand swells it'll be almost impossible to remove. In cases of extreme swelling it could lead to localized necrosis leading to the loss of a finger or worse. Please be safe my man 🙏
AND put some antihistamines in your first aid kit, to deal with any sensitivity reactions like you're experiencing. ALSO take some Ibuprofen to reduce the inflammatory response. Stagger the dose times between paracetamol & brufen to deal with pain ie 2H > you take your Tylenol, take the ibuprofen. BUT of an accident prone first day M-HAV!
I mean that stuff should be common sense and require no medical training or experience in the first place. It baffles me how little people actually think. Reaction over Rationality. It's the way of the world now.
Two things I've learned, don't dip an injury in river water (great way to invite infection) and carry a small first aid kit. Just a few bandages, a small wrap and antibiotic. Seems silly but you'll be glad you brought it when stuff like this happens! Only adds a few ounces to your pack. Mines in a dry box inside of my kayak. Don't even think about it until you need it.
That catfish poke looked gnarly...and you are right about the venom in their spines, they have a venom that can be quite painful as you have found out, it can even cause a little bit of necrosis in the tissue, so keep it as clean as possible... hopefully you can heal quickly
I felt that as soon as it happened! Old South Georgia trick to numb the pain after you get finned is to rub it on the belly of the catfish. I’m sure all of the other commenters will have a field day with this approach, but hey… I’ve also drank water out of a garden hose too… 😂
Glad to see you came prepared with a full first aid kit. Hope you feel better soon from that poke. Also, you want to use braided line on your baitcaster because it doesn't have memory like monofilament does. Put a few yard of monofilament on as a base, then tether braided to that and spool the rest with that. Have fun learning the baitcaster!
Momma said there would be days like this! Lol. He's a trooper for sticking with it. If the Drone didn't send some home then the great blue cat Impalement attempt of 2023 would have sent me home in tears. Lol
Micah soak your hand in as hot if water as you can stand add Epsom salt if you have some. Other thing you can do is after you clean the wound look for some plantain make a wet poultice either by chewing or mashing in plate or bowl then place on the wound it will start to feel better pretty quickly. Plantain is usually easy to find..
Good call on the first aid kit. I keep one in every vehicle we have, one in each tractor on our farm, and one in each of my tackle/hunting bags. The only thing I suggest doing is add a tube of Neosporin +pain relief. I really like it and it helps quite a bit. It doesn't get rid of all pain, but it makes it quite a bit more tolerable
As a former long time commercial Fla fisherman who caught catfish for crab bait in gillnets we were stuck very often what always worked for us is water as hot as you can stand and bleach don't be afraid to put a good amount of bleach in sink or bowl
Hey Mika, thank you for the great adventure, if you ever get stung by another catfish again you need to use hot water, of course not too hot to a point that you would burn your hand, it will help you to relieve the pain and it will dismantle the Venom.
You are right about that dateline thing. I actually listen to a podcast called park predators. Some people are evil out there. Im glad you stay safe. Makes me sleep better tonight knowing that one of my favorite TH-camrs stays safe out making content for us. Now if you see a Sasquatch dont shoot. Just pray! Im serious too. Sounds funny but I promise you wont think so if you have an encounter out there
Such a cool view of the truck cruising the country road.... before the crash. Played the crash in slow motion, a true trooper that drone was, filming until it hit the ground. RIP dear drone, you did not die in vain.
i’ve been stuck in the middle of my hand by a saltwater catfish cold water or ice doesn’t make it better actually makes it worse u should actually boil hot water and put epsom salts in it then stick ur hand in the hot water it will neutralize the venom and take the pain away and the epsom salt will help pull the venom out so it doesn’t lead to an infection
As always awesome video! Made me forget that i am a little sick, but my thumb started to have sympathy pains lol hope it heals well! God bless and your family!
Dude! I felt the pain of that stab all the way here in Arkansas! It is NEVER fun to get poked by a catfish! A sail-cat got me once in the Gulf and it hurt for days and would still itch at times a year later!
Growing up catfishing my grandfather always took the slime from the cat and rubbed it on the sting, he always said it neutralizes the venom and I can say it does work. Keep up the awesome videos bro!
Just a cooking tip: You should not add oil to pasta water but salt instead, oil will cause the sauce not to adhere as well to pasta in final product. Salt will help pasta not stick together.
Great video as always! So sorry you got hurt. Hopefully it didn't get infected and it's healing. The scooter looks so fun! You are so right about breakfast hitting different camping! Merry Christmas to you and your family Micah! Many blessings, Trina
Unless u have had that happen with that barb u have no idea how much that hurts.Bro mine got me once in my calve and I swear I felt like fainting and it got infected cause I couldn’t get I side deep enough with my first aide kit
i sign in just to comment that... that catfish got you good... you always says you got a good cat fish... now its the other way around... so funny....😆😁😄
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigghhhh Adventureeeee Merry Christmas bro !!!!!! dude that intro music hit hard like a longbow crit followed by a 2hd rune sword ahah i guess thats a type of combo thing that would wreck any drone ahah sorry thats a bummer man maybe if tha drone punescape'd it could of countered tha barrage eh? ahah greta video kudos on the catch man Stay Golden and God Bless take care yall !
Wind can effect a bait casting reel aslo setting the drag properly makes all the difference in the backlash! As for the string type I'm not to sure on that. I only use a bait casting reel once and awhile and I use mono as well. What is everyone's preference there?
I love your videos I love how you love fishing but most importantly I love how you love the lord may God bless you and your family keep up what your are doing
Love the vids Micah! I took a catfish spine in the meat of my hand a few years ago... them things hurt man. There’s no venom or anything like that in them, but it’s the mucus from their slime that your body reacts to. You did everything right though for sure. Especially throwin’ that guilty catfish on the fire! Lol God bless my friend!
We can see it hurts like a mother trucker, with the ice bag on your hand we can see your hand shaking like a leaf. I hope your hand is alright and that it won't affect you later on. First the drone, then caught that piggy, and now getting pricked by the barb. It's like the world felt bad, gave you the fish, and finished up with "HEHA! PLOT TWIST! Have fun with that ❤".................. 🙁😢 thank mother nature for her ability to fabricate a better movie than hollywood haha 😂😂
One thing people don't know about is a sign of blood poisoning is if a purple steak shows up/forms from the injury sight upward (toward the heart/body).

You’re a good man
So your saying common sense , basically.
Are you the brother?@@NW_Blessed
Rapeline ,what's that?
Kinda curious if a puncture that hurt someone that bad didn't bleed , AT ALL? AND everyone was sick with worry . And it's not even sore . REALLY !!
Please be safe my man 🙏
You need to keep hydrogen peroxide with your first aid kit
This is the best bit of advice you could get for the time being. We don't wanna see you lose any fingers or functionality in you hand
First off, Thank you for your service! And secondly this is the best advice to give Micah next to keeping a few other things in his first aid kit
Perfect timing! I’m spending the day squashing a cold while my family is out having fun. At least I can be with my TH-cam Fam!
I sprained my ankle really bad and can't move. This video is right on time!!
Yes! Another Highhhhh adventure video! ☝🏽

that does work. I dont know why but I have done it.
U mean a hose pipe? 😉😂
Glad to see you came prepared with a full first aid kit. Hope you feel better soon from that poke.

Happy to see an upload! Reading the comments I am a bit scared to see your hand. But I’ll watch anyway! Lol
Also. Good to see you using the splitting maul properly and not trying to hack down a tree in your front yard with it 😂. Epic winter video bro
Everytime micah is back with another high adventure shows me how lucky i am to be alive thanks bud for making my day ❤

Seeing the backlash cracked me up😂😂 I feel like everyone with a bait-caster can relate to that.

the explaining why you need a bait caster for bass while undoing a birds nest is prolly the best part of my day! Hope your hands ok man love ya!❤
Such a cool view of the truck cruising the country road.... before the crash. Played the crash in slow motion, a true trooper that drone was, filming until it hit the ground. RIP dear drone, you did not die in vain.

the spaghetti sauce you made looks amazing.
One tip for the noodles.

Congrats on your first time getting stuck by a catfish 🎉 but trust me stingrays hurt way worse
They amount of catfish barbs ive had in my hands.. i felt your pain immediately. But also kinda chuckled at some of your reactions to it.
Are you fishing on the Catawba River?

There are a few good you tube tutorials on the subject. Try it you'll like it. 😊
10lb is too small for your choice of rod and lure, go to 12 or better 14lb. Best line is fluorocarbon
I add a splash of wine and top with fresh basil 👍🏽
Smashing it again! any chance of a joint venture with Ace? if you can tear him away from Momma..
