Honestly that update made this phone a lot better. It honestly looked less jittery than the iPhone and pixel in the videos of them all together. If they can push out an update to make this phone waterproof we'd be golden😂. By the way I LOVE the lofi hip hop in the background for the video samples😎
Syed Hasnad Jami Not waterproof. Just water resistant. Still good enough for me. A candidate to replace my Nexus 6P. Just have to wait for Google Pixel XL 2 if it'll grab my interests.
By watching this video, even a blind person can say that OnePlus 5 stabilization is the best. Are you afraid to admit this or what? Since you keep saying that "ALL phones are doing an excellent job".
Amir Lashkari Yeah I do agree it had the best stabilization after the update of the 3. I did think it's picture quality was the worst of the 3 though. Not bad, but not as good. Oneplus did a great job here though, it's just too bad OIS wasn't there from the start.
Art Dog I guess I didn't notice the picture quality. But yeah, the EIS on OnePlus 5 is working unbelievably smooth which is almost like the stability of a gimbal. I don't think it needs OIS anymore.
thnx for the video, you sir are a gentleman & a scholar for posting this after the update. the backlash was really intense for not launching with any kind of stabilisation. you can definitely see the improvement after the update. people tend to forget how good the camera has been on the last years model after series of updates through the course of several months, whether it was image processing, dynamic range improvement or video quality. camera really took a step forward. maybe try doing the camera review again after 6 mnths, just a proposition. keep up the good work, got yourrself a sub dear sir. peace✌️
I have a 3t but I do watch to see what this company is up to. But to me, the stabilization in your review show the OnePlus 5 to be in fact more stable than its competitors. It looks good and its good to know this company seems to want to build a good product. Thanks for the video review.
I recently got the update and the eis is working really good. I think this was the only major thing missing from this phone to be called as a flagship and now its here. Apart from this eis update, OnePlus also gave a OnePlus font which i think is not so great. What do you think cj? Nice video, i would like to see a final in depth comparison of OnePlus 5 with other flagships to see is this really a flagship killer.
+Shubhojit Dey I agree, I'm not overly fond of the new font. I'm currently trying to use the new font to See if I'll get used to it... But it's not really my cup of tea 🙂
Renu Rai its everones personal preference but ive seen poor battery life on LG phones and i like the design and build qaulity of op5. It feels more premium.
Haken Panoma the video is not “jittery” the iPhone has the smoothest stabilization the moment you pan and start walking with the oneplus and pixel things start to fuck up and ghost. I had the pixel which still has better eis then the oneplus and it’s nowhere as natural and pleasing to the eye as the iPhone.. it’s natural. you have to own a phone with eis and ois then compare it in person to see the difference
That’s not jitter his hand was deliberately moving the on the pixel and iPhone why he kept it straight on the oneplus the video quality was still the best on the iPhone without all that ghosting effect that the oneplus has the pixel has it too but it’s not as bad. There’s plenty of other videos online that show the iPhone being the most natural and smoothest the pixel is the most stable just look at some more videos this one is different from all there’s others
The update won't really have a lot of added value for me. I bought the 64 gb model because the 128gb one was sold out. The video files in 1080p 60fps are already huge and the 4K ones are only going to get bigger.
Since OnePlus is coming to AU, would you recommend it? And is the jelly scrolling that bad? My friend has an OP3, flipped it upside down and the jelly scrolling was noticeable.
Gabriel Phua I did not even noticed the jelly effect until someone asked me about it. Look at normal reviews, do you see it there? You can only see it when you really search for it. No deal breaker in my opinion
+Gabriel Phua I can say I've got the jelly scrolling on my device and I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker at all. You'll see it for the first day and you'll forget it's even a thing once you use it as your daily driver! All in all 10/10 would recommend
Everyone seems to forget about the giant in the room when it comes to smartphone cameras. The Lumia 1020. Its 3 year old phone that still outshoots nearly every phone out right now.
darpinian1 I may agree but what good is it having a phone that old and not get proper updates and have a not so great app store. I would prefer staying with my DSLR if I'm that dedicated to photography.
Its running windows (has been upgraded to windows 10 if you are in the insider program) and has the latest updates. There isn't an App that I use that isn't available in the windows market...but then again I don't use my phone to play games and I don't do much in terms of social media. That said, it not really the point anyway. My point was only based on smartphone cameras. People love to talk about how good the phones are now without showing respect to just how good the Carl Zeiss lenses were on the older Nokia/Lumia devices.
You watched a comparison video? lol You think that gives you a voice in this conversation? Was the 1020 being used with the Lumia camera software or the windows software? It makes a big difference. Which update was the 1020 running on was it running Stock Windows, Windows 8 Denim or Windows 10 creators or anniversary update? It makes a HUGE difference. With all due respect, its a phone you have to own to have a voice in this conversation. The same can be said for the Nokia 808. Reviewers on TH-cam aren't giving the 1020 the proper respect because they all are using IOS/Android which means they don't know or understand how to use the 1020. The phone doesn't automatically update, it doesn't come with the most recent stuff out of the box. But if you update the phone to its optimized software, you get to see the phone for what its worth. The Lumia 950XL also has a pretty damn good camera as well, but on launch it was absolutely terrible. That's what software will do for a camera. If the reviewers aren't educated then their reviews don't matter. Smartphone camera enthusiasts already know this.
Also wanted to add that if you can find it, the Panasonic CM-01 is an EXTREMELY RARE android phone that had ridiculous specs in terms of camera quality. 20mp Leica lens with adjustability. Had macro and micro lenses as well. Its also capable of shooting raw(something current phones don't do) This is hands down the most capable android shooter, if you're not a fan of the Lumia. But its extremely rare and they can go from 650USD up to 1000USD. Just some information for anyone who cares
Everyone keeps saying the stabilization is sooo much better than the other phones while ignoring the fact that it makes sudden unnatural turns, which the iPhone doesn't. + I see minor distortions in the trees due to its stabilization so it still needs to be worked on, its getting there. And no don't come to me with all the hate messages saying I'm on the side of google pixl or iphone because I have an op5 myself.
I waited and waited and got a thought of LG g6. Checked again for the specs for oneplus 5 and sony xperia xz premium. Now I got a sony xperia xz premium. Can any on suggest to go for lg g6 or op5
Stabilization looks slightly better than the Pixel's, but the image quality is quite a lot worse. On the first comparison shot OnePlus 5 has way less fine detail, with a blurrer image overall. Fingers crossed they'll be able to raise the bitrate in a future update and make the quality look more like real 4k. Hell the image even looks noticeably worse on the OnePlus 5 in Full HD let alone 4k.
Dimitar Ivanov which is exactly why ois is superior I had the pixel and video quality is not its strong suit photos however are class leading.. the oneplus 5 doesn’t look great at all it’s like a 1080p video upscaled to 4K it doesn’t look great but at least the stabilization is way better
since both are processed videos, one can't really tell how much detail is resolved because the pixel is known for pushing the clarity a lot in their default processing. this can also be a disadvantage when it comes to people and portraits
Hey CJ nice review man , just a qucik question for you , my op5 just update to 4.5.8 . how do you get that font switch open again ? i can not get my option like your op5 , can you help ?
qwertyuiop Ho I have also had some very odd battery usage issues. 80% of the time I get through a work day with about 50-65%. Others with similar usage and I'm at 20%. Consistency would be nice.
Why does everyone insist on using the exact phrase "4K video stabilization"? It's video stabilization. Yes, that includes 4K, but also other variation of video that the phone can capture. It's certainly not JUST 4K.
For some reason whenever I check for software updates my OP5 says that system is up to date even thats not true,it's on Oxygen OS 4.5.6.Can anyone help?
Tahmid Arham If you haven't got the update yet here's how to get it.... either do it now or save this info for the future when you know a new update is out. Go to the play store and download an app called "Opera VPN". Open the app & hit connect. Next, change your region to Canada. Now if you look under software updates you'll see the newest version available for download & install.
Mian L OIS > EIS. A physical moving camera compensating for jittery hands is superior in terms of photography and video. EIS works for video only, if I recall. And having EIS is better than no stabilisation at all (on budget smartphones especially. price pays).
I think one plus omited ois in favour of flushing the camera to show off that they can actually do a better design compared to iPhone..well that's a fail...
This update was a make or break for me and I just bought my one plus 5 because it pushes the camera into flagship territory without me having to drop 700-900
uğur selçuk its called jelly scrolling issue. Although its a hardware problem..I have seen phones which dont seem to suffer from this issue. My phone isnt affected, and neither my friends.
Its there on any op5, all right. Its just that some people notice it, and others don't. Lucky you to be in the second category! Me- I noticed it initially but after sometime I got used to it, I guess. In fact, I kind of like it! Makes it feel more fluidic
I know that Oneplus 5's stabiliser is better than other !! But it doesn't look natural as iPhone's !! When he was running!! It should feel like he is running!! Like iPhone !! But others two feels like !! It's mount on a gimbal!! So I think !! iPhone's stabiliser is more natural than others two !! ✌🏻 Thank u
Honestly that update made this phone a lot better. It honestly looked less jittery than the iPhone and pixel in the videos of them all together. If they can push out an update to make this phone waterproof we'd be golden😂. By the way I LOVE the lofi hip hop in the background for the video samples😎
Eric White oneplus 5 is a waterproof phone. the ceo of oneplus confirmed it.
Syed Hasnad Jami Not waterproof. Just water resistant. Still good enough for me. A candidate to replace my Nexus 6P. Just have to wait for Google Pixel XL 2 if it'll grab my interests.
sevenelly yeah. I'm also waiting for google pixel 2 .
In this video pixel and op5 has eis but iphone 7+ has eis and ois . but iphone's video is much shaky than other phones
+Syed Hasnad Jami correct. The eis in the op5 and pixel looks to be doing a much better job at stabilising the video at least with running
As a peanut butter, I will say that this is a nice review.
JIF yeah it was pretty "smooth"
Skeppy is better
Skeppy is better :D
Gotta love that Skeppy

Amir Lashkari yas but eis is not as natural as ois
Amir Lashkari 👍👍👍👍 Op5 is the winner
oh, a new tech youtuber with quality vid, subscribed!
Interesting Comparision. Great Job. Finally is there this Update
Hey thanks for a such a wonderful review.
Your transition is one of the best have seen. Keep it up bro.
thnx for the video, you sir are a gentleman & a scholar for posting this after the update. the backlash was really intense for not launching with any kind of stabilisation. you can definitely see the improvement after the update. people tend to forget how good the camera has been on the last years model after series of updates through the course of several months, whether it was image processing, dynamic range improvement or video quality. camera really took a step forward. maybe try doing the camera review again after 6 mnths, just a proposition. keep up the good work, got yourrself a sub dear sir. peace✌️
+1c2reative thanks for the support!
Unbiased & classy review. Subbed!
I was looking for a review of this feature. This was really helpful !!👍
very well covered mate :) ...Ya this feature is important and useful for both video and photography ...
Wow, this is amazing! It's even better than the Pixel! It's a nice compromise between super steady and natural imo!
subbing cause youre into lofi thats wassup great vid
I have a 3t but I do watch to see what this company is up to. But to me, the stabilization in your review show the OnePlus 5 to be in fact more stable than its competitors. It looks good and its good to know this company seems to want to build a good product. Thanks for the video review.
The second song is Warm - Joey Pecoraro
+James Eden thanks for that! Corrected it in the description 😀
good review! thats where i used to live, that place looks good in 4K!
I recently got the update and the eis is working really good. I think this was the only major thing missing from this phone to be called as a flagship and now its here. Apart from this eis update, OnePlus also gave a OnePlus font which i think is not so great. What do you think cj?

Shubhojit Dey I'd preder G6 for the design and water resistance
Renu Rai its everones personal preference but ive seen poor battery life on LG phones and i like the design and build qaulity of op5. It feels more premium.
Shubhojit Dey because OnePlus is more premium. LGs fuck up a lot.
Raul Andrei exactly, and the interface of LG G6 looks funny. Lol
Great video!
+JUSTECH thanks for the support!
really high quality channel as seeing the subscriber count
Holy shit that's a huge improvement, now it's even better than pixel video and iPhone, I'm definitely buying the oneplus 5
Awesome video done sir but where have you shot this particular video?
+Neil Mistry in Sydney Australia mate
CJ HD great video take sir thanks for replying 😄
Great video! Quick unrelated question, are you based in Sydney, Australia by any chance?
+Thomas White I am buddy!
CJ HD ah I knew it! I visited Sydney like 2 years ago and I passed that park on my way to the supermarket! Pretty good place to live honestly
It's SO much better than pixel and iphone's stabilization combined! :O
Ana Maria Neparidze it’s not lol
VTEC kick in It is in this video. Did you not notice the jitter on the iPhone when he picked up the pace?
Haken Panoma the video is not “jittery” the iPhone has the smoothest stabilization the moment you pan and start walking with the oneplus and pixel things start to fuck up and ghost. I had the pixel which still has better eis then the oneplus and it’s nowhere as natural and pleasing to the eye as the iPhone.. it’s natural. you have to own a phone with eis and ois then compare it in person to see the difference

So you're gonna put words in his mouth because you didn't like the results? We're done here.
At 2:22 u have written ois for pixel, pls correct.
Otherwise a great video 🙌🏻
Great video man
I'm not a Pixel fan but video quality on XL was out standing! The grass looked so sharp and clear.
Was it really 4K on OnePlus?
I wonder if the Hit/Miss in some parts of the image when using Bokeh Effect during the portrait mode is fixed by the software update too? Thanks
Well done vid I love your transitions!!
+B-rye thanks for the kind words!
It's finally video stabilized? ok now I'm getting this phone and giving it a try:)
Thanks very much
Well done review. Thanks
I'm sorry but was i the only one that noticed this weird horizontal line going up the one plus' videos constantly that kind of distorted the image?
Great job brother...
To those who have OP5, what wireless carrier do you use and are you satisfied with the performance with that network and the OP5?
you made a new subscriber
I would like to hear a sample of the video in a concert or loud environment, all one plus phones were so bad with these settings.
When will the OnePlus 3 get an update?? Looks like their older phones are falling behind..
The update won't really have a lot of added value for me. I bought the 64 gb model because the 128gb one was sold out. The video files in 1080p 60fps are already huge and the 4K ones are only going to get bigger.
Can u do a comparison w Sony XZ premium, which seems to have top notch EIS too. iPh7 is just not on the same league in this video
Wow this update is a huge plus... i going to buy one now
Do you think they Will add this stabilization on Oppo R11 also?they got the same camera
Why does he keep looking to his left?? Anyways, nice video. EIS improves the situation a lot. Now its time to fix the 1080p video.
That's why, I bought the OnePlus 5
Since OnePlus is coming to AU, would you recommend it? And is the jelly scrolling that bad? My friend has an OP3, flipped it upside down and the jelly scrolling was noticeable.
Gabriel Phua I did not even noticed the jelly effect until someone asked me about it. Look at normal reviews, do you see it there? You can only see it when you really search for it. No deal breaker in my opinion
Im fine with jelly scrolling in most cases, but I'm scared I'll be that unlucky guy to get one of the really bad jelly scrolling panels.
+Gabriel Phua I can say I've got the jelly scrolling on my device and I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker at all. You'll see it for the first day and you'll forget it's even a thing once you use it as your daily driver!
All in all 10/10 would recommend
Gabriel Phua All the screens are the same. No lucky/unlucky ones. The OnePlus 5 screen is made by Samsung by the way.
Joel Azevedo it has nothing to do with who it’s made by if the screen is upside down by the manufacturer
Surly they could have added this the same feature to the 3/3t?

the best 2017 smartphone. i love this
Which camera used front or rear?
Is that a Tottenham Hotspur jersey that you are wearing? 😯👍
+Sushant Rajput it sure is 😁😁😁
CJ HD wohooo...COYS... I am going to subscribe you my fellow spurs fan
+Sushant Rajput COYSSSSSSSSS
Everyone keeps saying the stabilization is sooo much better than the other phones while ignoring the fact that it makes sudden unnatural turns, which the iPhone doesn't.
+ I see minor distortions in the trees due to its stabilization so it still needs to be worked on, its getting there.
And no don't come to me with all the hate messages saying I'm on the side of google pixl or iphone because I have an op5 myself.
But where dat 1080p 60fps EIS at?
After watching this review I'm finally decided to buy OP5 😊
Great Phone at a great price.
#Flagship killer 😁
can i get that update with the 3t?
nice video CJ
+shubham suryawanshi thanks mate!
I waited and waited and got a thought of LG g6. Checked again for the specs for oneplus 5 and sony xperia xz premium. Now I got a sony xperia xz premium. Can any on suggest to go for lg g6 or op5
I was ecstatic this morning when I got the update
2:37 Is it just me who thinks the OnePlus and Pixel are doing a much better job than the iPhone which has OIS?
Can you give the link to that cover for oneplus3t
+Kushagra Sri this is a one plus 5 and there's a dbrand skin... Not a case
What's crazy is that the One Plus 5 is $230 cheaper than the iPhone and Pixel...
man when will we receive replacement for jelly effect on the screen
Should I upgrade from an iPhone 6s Plus?
Will you be doing a new camera review after the update?
Is there a newer update after the one in the video?
Eduardo Sousa yes a lot of improvement it is using eis
How bout touch lateness?
Hey CJ nice review man , just a qucik question for you , my op5 just update to 4.5.8 . how do you get that font switch open again ? i can not get my option like your op5 , can you help ?
+Hung Truong the font option should be in your settings. There's a font section there to let you switch to the new slate option
Can oneplus add image stabilisation to photo camera through an update? Its much needed!
Afshan cn from my knowledge, I think EIS works on video only. OIS is better on every smartphone that exists.
my Oneplus 5 still doesn't have this update yet
is the battery drain problem improved after this update ?
+qwertyuiop Ho I can't say I've ever encountered the battery drain issue. And to me battery life seems just as good as before, if not better
because it seems a very serious problem after the 911 bug fix update
qwertyuiop Ho I have also had some very odd battery usage issues. 80% of the time I get through a work day with about 50-65%. Others with similar usage and I'm at 20%. Consistency would be nice.
Boot the phone into recovery and clear cache portion from there. I've read that fixes the issue.
I get about 5 - 5.5 hours of SOT pretty consistently, and that's with moderate to heavy use with 4g/wifi constantly enabled
you should have added op5 vs op5(updated) toooo
Do S8 vs OP5
wait...how'd it look better than the OIS??!!!
Is that a spurs shirt underneath the jacket?
+Aman Tukrel 👀👀👀
CJ HD yeah?
Why does everyone insist on using the exact phrase "4K video stabilization"?
It's video stabilization.
Yes, that includes 4K, but also other variation of video that the phone can capture.
It's certainly not JUST 4K.
I think with this, the OP5 cameras are great now! Atleast better than the LG G6..
Oneplus 5 has the best stabilization, but... why isn't anyone talking about using the secondary camera?
I thought in the walking and jogging video the OnePlus 5 easily looked better than the iPhone 7 and Pixel XL!! What does everyone else think?!
Still does not have OIS.
Still waiting for the update.
The oneplus 5 seems to have the same colour Palette as the iPhone.
Great job
Pixel doesn't have OIS,and your wrong at 2:20
I've already addressed this in the description but thanks for your input anyway.
For some reason whenever I check for software updates my OP5 says that system is up to date even thats not true,it's on Oxygen OS 4.5.6.Can anyone help?
Tahmid Arham I would think it's coming to your phone soon. From what I understand, they can't push all of the updates out at one time.
Art Dog Found the same answer from Oneplus forums, your're right. Thanks :)
Tahmid Arham If you haven't got the update yet here's how to get it.... either do it now or save this info for the future when you know a new update is out. Go to the play store and download an app called "Opera VPN". Open the app & hit connect. Next, change your region to Canada. I got it!Thankyou so much man!
Tahmid Arham No problem glad I could help
Works on 1080p 60fps?
Shame the image quality isn't that good though.
Nowadays EIS does a better job than OIS,bravo 1+
Mian L OIS > EIS. A physical moving camera compensating for jittery hands is superior in terms of photography and video. EIS works for video only, if I recall. And having EIS is better than no stabilisation at all (on budget smartphones especially. price pays).
No lol
all you had to do is follow the damn train cj
I'm mad at Oneplus but I have to say 'well done'.
Now the phone's screen doesn't wake up on calls post this update
I think one plus omited ois in favour of flushing the camera to show off that they can actually do a better design compared to iPhone..well that's a fail...
Nice work
Its tihs update only for 8GB or for all (6GB)
all
thx
This update was a make or break for me and I just bought my one plus 5 because it pushes the camera into flagship territory without me having to drop 700-900
+rgpfighter I don't think you'll be disappointed!
Color me impressed.
No OIS though
there is no ois in pixel xl
Anyone heard that honor 8 Pro can kick the OP5 ass camera
Peigan Min?! :D
I am a huge fan of the one plus 5 and other products of one plus
did they solved jellybean effect?
+uğur selçuk it's unlikely to be solved by a software update since the issue is related to hardware
uğur selçuk its called jelly scrolling issue.

One most imp issue with op5 is solved now .. 😄😄
