What’s the difference between the Manjushri riding the lion, elephant, and black Manjushri? Does the white, black, atapanchana, and lion and elephant riding Manjushri equal to the 5 Manjushris of Wutai Shan?

The bodhisattva Samantabhadra typically rides the elephant. Manjushri is associated with a lion.

Manjushri as a Tantric figure originates from many different Sanskrit texts. I believe that black Manjushri is first recorded in the Vairochana Abhisambodhi Tantra.

Since the forms of the Five Manjushri of Wutaishan do not appear to based in Indian Buddhism, it is most likely that the teachers that associated specific forms to each of the five mountains must have drawn from already existing Manjushri forms.
