I just completed reading golpoguccho by Rabindranath Tagore and found the mention of this dance drama towards the end in one of his short stories , so I searched it on TH-cam and found this. Thank you so much Sa re ga ma. ❤❤

The performance of Saregama artists of embodying Tagore dance drama "CHITRA GADA" is very bad & kind of eyesore.
Such a classical background music & classical voices of gems of singer , this Saregama flocks dancing embodiment is disgusting. They are simply jumping doing too much of unwanted limbs movements which is not keeping pace with the slow & steady melodious music & singing voice. Quality is too poor. I doubt if this flock of artists understand & fully comprehend the meaning of dance drama, in which an artiste is required to express the songs wordings into action for audience realization , simply moving limbs & arbitrarily dancing does not interpret the theme of the musical words & dialogues.
This is the first time I saw you tube released Tagore's any dance drama rendition. Though I myself had done rendion of Tagore's dd viz chandalika, sapmochan, chitrangada, mayarkhela m etc. Using young talented boys & girls, but I never looked up to this kind of poor rendition of dance drama, did my own way.
Another stupid directional lapse noticed in this drama is that Arjuna being a veer, exposing his bare body, this foolish & ignorant director can look up in rabindrarachanabolee , where Tagore himself is watching(sitting in a chair) his troupe performing Nitra Natika, Chitrangada; what kind of dress or costume Arjuna & others had worn . Pl Ref Rabindrarachanabolee Trayodash Khand (13th vol) page 147.
Actually when when persons sans passion for dancing & acting, make such fuss using their scionism power & backing & cheap tv channels back them & praise, exposing their own quality less commercial status, such rubbishes are delivered on public platform. Like this quality in evere sphere in Bengal is diluted &; old quality Bengali culture is gradually destroyed.

Enjoyed the singer’s singing of course. There could be no other better than them. Could you not find any prettier chitrangada? For that sort of dance didn’t need so much exceptional quality of dancer. I believe in Bangladesh there will be no problem to find someone like that. Plus some of the dress up could not appreciate. Sorry about my comment.

I (46) am also an admirer of classic writers and classic age of 19th and early 20th century of both Bengal and the West. In my opinion, we need to make a through research/plan on how to educate the present generation with our old classics (Bengali & English both). There may not be any quick fix for it as present and future generations will also have to live their current realities and should create classics during their own life times. We all have to live the present. We can be nostalgic, as I am so much, but we also have to live for present and future. Those who can blend together-- past, present and future-- in their lives are lucky indeed. The 'Casablanca' movie sings, ... কী করে? সব কিছু কালজয়ী হলে কালকে খুব হ্রস্ব হতে হয়। কাল তা নয়। ওর গর্ভ আছে। তাতে এসব কবে বিলীন হয়ে গেছে।
চিত্রাঙ্গদা এ না কি? গান ও তেমনই। আপনারা মানবেন না, অনেকেই মানে না, সুচিত্রার গলা administrator এর মত। অন্ততঃ পরের দিকে। প্রথম জীবনে হয়ত কিছুটা পবিত্র ছিল। পরে নষ্ট হয়ে যায়।

২০০৭/৮ সাল তখন আমরা অনেক ছোটো ক্লাস ৬/৭ পড়ি। আমার দিদিরা, পাড়ার দিদিরা দেখতাম এই সব গীতিনাট্য -নৃত্যনাট্য করত।একদল নাচতো একদল ব্যাকস্টেজে গাইত।তখন ওতটা বুঝতাম না।কয়েকদিন আগে এক দাদার কম্পিউটারে সেইসব ভিডিও দেখে চোখ যেন জুড়িয়ে গেল।রক্তকরবী, তাসের দেশ,চিত্রাংগদা আরও কত কি।কি সুন্দর একটা সাংস্কৃতিক সন্ধ্যা।পাড়ার দাদারা হাসির নাটক। দিদিরা নাচ-গান । আমরা ছোট রা আবৃত্তি। আর হয়না এসব।হবেও না হয়তো।
এখন শুধু টিকটক আর রিলস।
