  • In this final part 3 of the Tandy 1000 TL series, we'll be taking a closer look at the actual hardware. We'll disassemble the PC completely, look at the various components, zoom in on the mainboard and its features, and also look at the different type of screens we can add + upgrade the memory on the Tandy 1000 TL.

Forget the built-in sound and 16 colours; a 286 with a replaceable CR2032 battery for the RTC is *really* ahead of its time lol.

That mysterious Y-shaped metal bracket is present to be used to brace a Hard Card, you screw it onto the end of the Hard Card and put it through the vertical slot next to where it is stored on the chassis. That braces the Hard Card, the ISA slot screw may not be enough for something which weighs so much.

I remmebered this Tandy, I used to play with Akeru: Word game, Galaga, Tetris:Around the world, and Outrun during 1993-94

thank you, as always. nice to see the coin-type primary batt, instead of the leak-prone varta nicad secondary batt. take care & stay safe.

Had a TL/2 which worked pretty well. I upgraded it to 12Mhz.

great series of videos! i'd love to see someone do a similar review on a Tandy 1000 RL. Seems like a less common machine for youtube videos. Maybe next September someone will give it some love? :)

Curious how Tandy and Commodore managed to pooch it when they had a large head start and nice offerings. Here for example the lack of 16-bit slots is just weird. Why use a 286 and not include 16-bit slots? Well made computer though! You should do a video on the 80287 upgrade for all these machines.

Does the 1000TL use the same floppy drive pinout as the PS/2 model P70?

I don’t think so but not 100% sure. Will look that up when I’m behind my computer. I think these drives were made by Sony specifically for these tandy machines.
