Thank you. Spent over an hour working with apple support and they wanted me to buy more iCloud Storage. This worked but only after I restarted my computer.
You are a life saver! Finally an easy and straight to the point tutorial. Thanks! EDIT: Guess what! This trick also fixed my tags! They where not working properly. When I try to look for tag files they wouldn't appear. After a few minutes of doing this, they are all back again in my finder. I hope this helps info helps, in case you want to make another tutorial about this topic.
Thanks man ! I use 2020 mbp intel core with sequoia , just click system setting and type spotlight, then scroll down I find "search privacy" and follow rest instructions in your video , it works man , so happy watch your video.
OMG, you are a genius, this happened when updating to Sequoia 15.1. which as you mentioned depending on the version may be in a different place. . Many thanks !!!!
LEGEND. I have been suffering with this problem with files on my external SSD not showing up when using finder.. Hopefully this sorts the issue long term.
Thank you so so much you're such the life saver. Finder was working just find and only few days ago I updated ISO and it reset many of my setting and I had no idea how to find my files. 🙏
For those with older laptops running MacOS Monterey. I had to right click on finder. Click preferences. Under general tab select hard disks. You can go a step further under the sidebar tab and select your MacBook as well. Your welcome. I’ve been using my MacBook this way for 7 years and never realized I couldn’t see all of my files.
I followed your previous version of this tutorial with much success and fanfare! Thanks! I wonder if migrating my settings from my intel macbook to my m2 macbook somehow was the source of this search index corruption.
It's been a while, but I believe disk utility used to do this with a click of a button back in the day. Kinda ridic we have to jump through hoops to get this to work now. Came at a good time tho... My Catalina index is all messed up. I'll give this a try!
Yes, cannot remember if it was disk utility, but there used to be a re-index button somewhere….I am pretty sure of it as well. Anyway, the method described here is exactly the method Apple now recommends. Good timing/reminder for me too….
edit - found it online; just search for 'spotlight' in settings and then scroll to the bottom where you will find the button, now named 'search privacy'. However, didn't do the trick for me unfortunately...
My Documents folder is still not showing up in Finder. And I cannot upload anything to TH-cam. I do not know what happened on my Imac - the storage is almost full and I am deleting files but this is all strange!
Your step by step instructions for sequoia 15.1 does not show a privacy tab (bc like you stated, it depends on what version you are using). I was able to find it bc of your explanation, and this worked perfectly, (but not sure how I got there). So if others are not successful, an update step by step for 15.1 may help.
Another problem: I tagged a lot of files. All worked in the past. Some of the tags still works: clicking on the tag reflects the files which are tagged with this tag. Some other tags don't work: clicking on it, it don't reflect any file. Using the search function in finder also do not reflect all my tags available. Could you help with this?
Oh ... found it and brought it back to the sidebar and did all that you advised, plus rebooted my Mac and VOILA!!! Everything's working again and I can find my files. Thank you!
I have tried this and even chatted with Apple Support who told me to upgrade to Sequoia 15.1 beta. Same problem, when I try to add my HD to excluded files it gives me an "unknown" error. I am signed on as an ADMIN.
Brilliant fix! Truly grateful. Haven't been able to fix this until now, watching your video. Thank you.
Glorious and simple. It worked on the Sequoia 15.1 - Thank you
I second this!
was it because of this update that this happened?
Thank you. Spent over an hour working with apple support and they wanted me to buy more iCloud Storage. This worked but only after I restarted my computer.
Worked for me! It was so frustrating trying to find files before fixing this!!! I think restarting your mac after following steps is key 👌
Just used it on Sequoia 15.1.1 and it worked like a charm! Ty
These 'tips' never work for me, but this time it did!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thanks !! how long do you have to wait till it index is finished?
Thanks so much! This fix worked on my mac mini m1 w/ macOS Sequoia 15.2
Excellent tutorial.
I looked at few others and yours was the most direct and relatable. The library analogy lit it up for me.
Well done!

OMG, you are a genius, this happened when updating to Sequoia 15.1. which as you mentioned depending on the version may be in a different place. . Many thanks !!!!
Where is it now, I couldn't find it in sequoia 15
@@TopicFight I found it by searching for only "spotlight" without the word "search"
Thanks man. Great help and just found out that you give lightroom lesson too, so subscribed.

Thank you so so much you're such the life saver. Finder was working just find and only few days ago I updated ISO and it reset many of my setting and I had no idea how to find my files. 🙏

hmmm interesting question! i suppose that could certainly be true. that said i have started with a fresh m1 and still have this issue 🤷♂️
Thanks Man!
Does not work. At 1:31 he says to click on "Spotlight Privacy" and nothing shows up in the window when I do that.
Same for me.
Just tried it on the most recent version of Mac OS and it worked! First time searching in finder it took some time loading tho.
Thanks It works✅

Just worked on latest Sequoia update (15.2)

Amazing! Thank you 😍
You, Sir, are a hero amongst men. THANK YOU!
On the Sequoia 15.1, you have to scroll down to spotlight and its there, under screen saver if that helps
Thank you!! Instant fix!!
Thanks! Solved my problem!!!

THANK YOU!!!
That was amazing, thank you!!!! So quick and easy and there it all is -finally!
worked as described. thank you.
So the option 'spotlight privacy' isn't available on macOS sequoia.. do you know where to find it so I can try this trick?
just search "spotlight" and then scroll all the way down, its called "search privacy"
edit - found it online; just search for 'spotlight' in settings and then scroll to the bottom where you will find the button, now named 'search privacy'. However, didn't do the trick for me unfortunately...

BRILLIANT!!!!!!
How about external drives? Where is the spotlight database kept? Is it locally on each drive?
Worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate using Mac OS but I have to give Apple prop to the Finder. It can find anything down to the texts inside documents and very fast too.
Yes, this helped me
I can't find MacIntosh HD when I follow this process. It doesn't show up on the side bar. Only "Favourites" and "iCloud" are there.
Oh ... found it and brought it back to the sidebar and did all that you advised, plus rebooted my Mac and VOILA!!! Everything's working again and I can find my files. Thank you!
