    Man you have no idea what a service to mechanical geeks you are providing - I have been trying to understand hydraulics for a year - this is by a hundred miles the very best video - I thank you and I salute you you are a fantastic teacher and should do it for a living. love your channel.

    I have been reading and watching videos for about three solid days to try and figure out exactly how to plum in an electric over hydraulic third function valve. I finally grasp just how the power beyond function works. But I had to do a ton of research to understand it. Your video made it super simple and I wish I had found it sooner. This is a great resource for anyone who is not well-versed in all things hydraulic.

    Thanks a lot!!! This video is spot on. I was able to install a 2 spool 4 way control for an add on rear flail mower on my Kubota tractor. Now I can cut ditches and around ponds. Thanks Dave.

    Today I'm gonna try to install the top and tilt I got from the dealer. It did not come with instructions though the service manager said that he would be available to phone consult with during the installation. This video is hugely helpful. Explaining that the hydraulics are in series clarifies the circuit, especially for me as an electrician. Thanks as always Dave!

      Hi Dave. I was making good time on the installation but the kit I got from the dealer was missing the bracket which holds the linkage and levers atop the tank and below the control console plate. So I sewed things up and used the box blade the old-fashioned way, climbing down to make hand adjustments on the fly. I sometimes wonder how they tolerated hopping up and down from the tractor until I remember that they used to have to hook up a mule/horse/ox and that a tractor, even with hand adjustments was probably pretty damn convenient!

    Thank you so much for this. I had a lightbulb moment piping up a front loader as soon as you said everything is connected in series. Relocated 2 pipes and had it working straight away after your explanation. 👍👍👍

    Probably saved me hours and hours of troubleshooting. Fixing up an old, somewhat neglected Kubota L235. I discovered an aftermarket aluminum hydraulic adaptor block, but I don't have a front end loader. Also the 3 point lift isn't working yet. I've absorbed all this info and I'm certain it's going to come in handy. Thanks!

    This is great, I wasn't sure if my backhoe output would be tank or back into the PB line. I'll double check the valves on the unit, but I think it'll just splice inline with the PB circuit as you show. Thanks again, I was planning on doing this today or tomorrow, great timing!

      JD990 WOW that was one of my favorite tractors ever! a real beast of a bare bones tractor. I always wanted one with a BH I had its baby brother the JD 790. I'm glad you found this video I think it will help a lot of folks. of course I'm sure the dealers are pissed that I posted this as they will be losing work.

    I was thinking that to add a rear remote I would need to Tee off from the Power Beyond and tank circuit to make it happen. I have both a loader and backhoe setup.
    I now understand that it all needs to be in Series to make it all work. Thanks...

      @@daveknowshow Well almost, I'm confused now! I must have done something wrong. I added a spool valve and remotes to my Kubota L3800 and now to 3 point hitch does not function. Would you mind helping? Both remotes work for my stump grinder. Can I PM some pictures?

Id say you have the tank port and the power beyond port likely backwards. this means your power beyond is dumping straight back to tank and your back to tank is dumping into the power beyond port. its not gonna hurt it but as you can see it makes the three point no longer operate.

    Great diagram! The only thing that I would suggest changing is how you draw the "relief valves" and "back to tank" lines. From your description, it seems as if the the relief valve should be drawn in line with the "back to tank" line rather than off by itself. Thanks.

      it actually is screwed in the side of the manifold block on this specific machine exactly where shown. this is where you adjust the shim pack to increase and decrease relief pressure. thanks for the comment.

    Thanks for Your well presented explanation on hydraulic Feed & Return to tank lines as being in series
    Overlaying the 3 basic circuits was a Great Help by using the KISS method ( Keep It Simple Stupid )
    My training has been as a US NAVAL Electronics tech & once You said the Hydraulic Flow is in series that made it much easier for Me to understand Fluid Flow theory & usage
    Spool valve & relief valve terms now makes sense
    It is funny on how I can relate Hydraulics assemblies too Electronic components
    I bought a Kubota L-2501 a couple years ago and a week later a new Backhoe for it
    The only 2 things I have accomplished so far is installed the Sub Frame for it & Hydraulic lines from the FEL controller to the rear mounting plate the back down to the Hydraulic block as a complete path
    Backhoe is still on its shipping pallet
    I don't have a Grapple or other hydraulic implements for the 3 point at the rear, yet, but I have been looking at adding Hydraulic fittings
    Question???
    Since the system is a Series path is it possible to use the connection points I now have at the rear for the detachable Backhoe to feed a Spool controller or 2 inline from that path when the Backhoe is not connected?

      Hey Ken thank you for the kind words. they are much appreciated. yes you could easily connect a spool valve with quick connects that simply plug in to where the backhoe unplugs. or any place on that circuit. some spool valves have a back to tank port and may require running that extra line. I do think as long as you are using an open center spool valve you could easily omit the back to tank port line. just allow the fluid to flow the return into the power beyond line down stream. in my series "adding rear remotes/ spool valve" I installed my valve by simply unscrewing one line at the rear from the fitting and plumbing it into the spool valve. then came out the spool valve and plumbed into the quick connect I previously disconnected from. now the spool valve is connected and when the hoe is off the two hoses plug into each other completing the circuit. I used 1 male one female at the rear so they can plug into each other. this bypasses the hoe and completes the circuit. hope that helps.

    Awesome, just what I needed to know to add a Land Pride 3rd function kit with having existing Loader and Backhoe. Land Pride instruction say contact dealer if you have a Backhoe! I will install in series with the the PB loop.

    Hi Dave, thanks for the video series, really helpfull since doing something similar. Do you know the thread type of the adaptors that go into the power beyond block? Is it metric, BSP?

      no not bsp on mine it was 3/8 NPT into the block if I remember correctly. I tell you this hydraulic fitting sizes and threads can be a real pain in the neck. I'm currently custom building a 3/8 bsp to 3/8 npt adapter and its been a real pain in the butt to iron out.

    Awesome explanation, thank you. I have a small tractor Satoh S370D with a cat 1 3PH and FEL. I wanted to add a hydraulic top link and try to use a 2 spool valve or a joystick to operate hitch up and down along with top link out and in. Are the lower arms of the 3PH usually too integrated to add to a joystick or standard spool valve?
    I also want to add a remote filter because to clean my strainer I have to drain all the oil in the system to pull it. Where in the system should the remote filter be added?

      great questions but beyond my pay grade. typically the rear lift has an internal hydraulic cylinder and a tad difficult to add a joy stick control for the actual three point. three point lifts are generally power up gravity down and have a position control sensor to maintain height. on mine the two spool valve operates a top link and a tilt link. I dont have the tilt link yet that will be a future purchase. normally the filter is in the back to tank line and on some tractors between the HST tranny and the back to tank return as well as the back to tank line from the three point system. a shop manual for your tractor would shed a lot of light on what you could get away with doing.

    Dave, This video is the one that really just put it all together for me. And I was wondering what the best way would be to get the spool valve tank line teed back into the line to the tank-you had that tee on the block pictured right there on the screen for me. (Just need to figure out where to get these types of fittings now). I kept seeing inferences here and there about the 3301 with a Backhoe not being able to add rear remotes, but those seem to be unfounded-it looks like the backhoe if anything, makes it even easier to splice into that PB circuit. THANKS AGAIN DAVE

      glad to help, keep in mind you can use the open center spool valve and not install the back to tank line. it will merely dump back through the power beyond port. this eliminates 1 hose completely and no need for the "T". found this out after the fact.

      the Tee is an inline npt to 2 #8 jic fittings. the hoses on my Kubota are on the hose ends are 8G *jix or jx depending on manu. the fittings on the manifold are a npt to 8jic if it is an o ring type fitting on your back hoe or other attachment it is a jm or boss fitting it stands for Joint industry council. they are identical to 8 AN that are Army Navy fittings just looser standards. hope this helps

    Great video Dave, Your setup is exactly the same as I've planned for my L3400. I do have one question, doesn't the backhoe also have a low pressure return to tank for the hydraulic fluid coming from the now pressure side of a cylinder?

      Michael Grubisha no it uses the power beyond line and simply dumps back into it much like a loaders third function valve has only two lines one in one out. I'm sure you could likely set up rear remotes to work the same way but I have not looked into how to do that or the advantages or disadvantages of a system like that. My guess would be having a back to tank line helps aid in the cooling process of the fluid since it's used once and then returned to tank where as the backhoe theoretically could use the fluid twice as it would use it again at the three point. Of course the three point is not being used with the backhoe installed thus making it acceptable to utilize a non back to tank set up. It essentially uses the back to tank within the three point circuit at the manifold block. Hope this makes sense.

    Thank Dave for this video. I have Kubota B7610, with a FEL. I am adding a thumb style grapple to the bucket, and considering an electric diverted valve in between the boom hydraulic circuit. I wonder if instead, I should tap into the PB port on the FEL spool valve and add a single level spool valve for the grapple?

    So if I do not have a manifold block with aux ports such as a power beyond, can I just put the main in directly into a spool valve and then run the pb from the spool valve directly to where the main in would have went on the manifold block and then T into the tank return with the spool valve?

      yes and depending on how you set up the spool valve you may not need the back to tank port. just set it up so that the return dumps to the power beyond out port. this how kubota back hoes are set up. which is why they only use two lines. one in one out.

    Daver, excellent video and explanation of how hydraulics work. But I'm stumped and in need of guidance. I have a Ford 800 and considering adding single spool valve kit to divert live hydraulics for a log splitter. How do I run a hose for low pressure/return to the tank?

      you can simply have the low pressure return through the power beyond flow or dump it into the tank fill port although sometimes on some machines that option bypasses the filter which is not a good idea. so look into it further. typically power beyond return pressure is low pressure in fact its all low pressure until its being used the pressure build in the cylinder that is consuming it. the rest is simply low flow through on these open center hydraulic systems.

    Question for you: I have a tractor implement with two remote circuits. How to reliefs in the spool valve reliefs work if -- let's say -- something hits my implement and FORCES my dual acting cylinder to move?
    Will the spool valve relieve one side back to tank and draw fluid in for the other side? My tractor doesn't have float or continuous flow (Two positions and neutral). Thanks again, Dave.

      not likely if it has no float position. typically, the relief in a standard spool valve is 3000psi which is higher than the standard setting on most tractors until you get into the super large machines. this 3000psi is mainly in play when you dead head the valve and the cylinder is at the end of its stroke. if this is a 3 point implement the three point will likely raise since it is gravity down. if this is tow behind batwing mower that may be a good question for Tim Marks over at tractor time with Tim. he uses a lot of batwing mowers and can explain how the hydraulics need to be set up. hope this helps. be sure and let Tim know I sent you there with this specific question so he wont send you back here to ask me. lol hope between the community we can get you an answer quickly.

    Thanks for the videos. I've been watching over and over, and still trying to figure out just how to set up my spool valve. I have a Mahindra 1538, and it has a backhoe, so one set of rear remotes. But I have three hoses on the back. Two (male and female couplers) are on a metal block, and a third hose, longer than the other two, with a male fitting. All three hook into the backhoe when it's on. I take the backhoe off, and take the longer hose and plug into one of the other two so the 3-point works. One is PB, and assuming the other two are high pressure, and tank return. I have a Cross 4Z0052 2-spool valve with an "IN" "OUT" and "BYD" I can't figure out how to set it up with what I have. Any light you could shed would be greatly appreciated. Again, thanks for the vid's and thank in advance for any help.

      so basically your new spool valve that you are adding will only be in use when the three point is active correct? in other words when the back hoe is NOT installed. so the hose that goes to the hoe that has flow coming out is the power supply line. the line you plug that line into in order to feed the three point is likely the power beyond port continuation. think of the power supply line as the power beyond out and the line feeding the three point as the power beyond in. the other line is a back to tank port. so the line that has power coming out goes into the IN port of the new spool valve, the out port of the new spool valve will need a hose to run to the back to tank quick coupling at the rear of the tractor, the port on the new spool valve labeled BY or BEYOND will need a hose and connector that will plug in at the rear of the tractor into the port that feeds the three point. hope this helps.

      @@daveknowshow Thanks for the reply! I finally got it explained from the dealer...when the BH comes off, the PB gets plugged into the power circuit to run the 3PH. The return is unused. So now I know where to plug in the lines to the valve body. Thanks again, and keep up the great videos. BTW, I have you to blame for all of this in the first place! I was watching your video on how to run a box blade, and you had top n tilt. Seeing that, "I just HAD to have that!" LOL. Cheers!

      @@solero7378 you can use the back to tank port with the new spool valve if you want to by just installing a hose with a quick couplin on it and when the hoe is off plug that in. I used the back to tank port on mine.

      I dont have any links my advice is locate a decent hydraulic shop that is willing to help you figure out which adapters you need. some fittings on these tractors are 3/8 NPT " NATIONAL PIPE THREAD " others are JIC style fittings. do a google search for " identifying hydraulic fitting " this will help you be able to identify what you have and build from that. I went cheap because my money is limited. I used a lot of 3/8 NPT premade hose. this saved a lot of money. I still had to convert some of those 3/8 NPT fittings to JIC or BSPT " british straight pipe thread" and also the number 8 o-ring style as well. its a lot to deal with and I simply did the best I could to save money. with that said I likely spent more than I should have but lots less than if I had paid the dealer to install it and get the parts together for me. I got frustrated at times but it was a learning experience. lol

    Great video Dave. I was wanting to install a hydraulic top link on my NH TC33D, but the 'factory' kit is over $1,800 just for a single remote valve. I saw your video and thought this would be a lot cheaper option.
    I have just one question, I don't have a Backhoe, so I assume just deleting that part of the circuit in the diagram, the process would still be the same? (Power beyond to spool valve, and return to manifold block).

    I'll add my thanks as well, but I do have a question, if you don't mind. I just added a 3rd function valve to my L3301 to operate a grapple on the FEL. I am working on installing top & tilt to the box blade as well. My Prince (Wolverine) 2-spool valve does not appear to have a relief valve going back to the tank, as your video shows. Also have no back hoe. From the 3rd function valve, do I now route the PBY out line to the new spool valve and then from the valve to the PBY (green) input on the tractor manifold block? What about the relief valve line back to the tank, that the valve does not have? Also, in this configuration, do I need to install the optional Power Beyond/Closed Center Conversion Plug in the spool valve? Thanks again for your helpful video.

      you need the valve to be an open center valve so if that means leaving the plug out leave it out. not sure on that valve. yes you simply run from the power beyond at the loader control to the input of the new spool valve then the output of the new spool valve goes to the power beyond at the manifold block. if you do it wrong you will hear the pump strain as the relief opens and more likely the three point will no longer raise.

      I guess you could but the valve will likely create additional heat on the fluid. its easier to just tap into the circuit at the valve or manifold , when the hoe is off use a male female connection and just feed the circuit back into itself to complete.     This is something that has been on the back burner for a while, Have a Kubota 8950 its loader is running on the 4 ports on the back to my knowledge this was common in the older days of tractors. Need to check with dealer and see what kind of kits they have for this tractor. Would be nice to get the loader running on a joystick freeing the back up. Looking at getting a flexwing cutter disconnecting those hoses is a pain. For hay work normally just pop the two out that run the front no pressure easy to get back in. Have also been looking at the hydraulic multiplier using 2 of those. Would be cheaper I am sure

    Dave, awesome video. Wish I would have seen it before I had the dealer install rear remotes on my L3400 (15 years ago). Where did you get the tee adapter for the tank port? I've been looking for one with no luck to reconfigure. The dealer put a hose to my hydraulic fill and it's very annoying. It not only makes it hard to add fluid but it also gets in the way of my top link so hoses rub.

    Hi Dave, well done. One of the best explanations on tractor hydraulics. I recently bought an Kuboto L2850D (1993), which has only the rear lifter hydraulics. A backhoe is installed with its own PTO pump/hydraulic-system. As I want to expand the hydraulic system - both rear and front - I wonder what the thread dimensions are on the manifold block. On the first sight, it looks the same as yours. Secondly, I contemplate to install only one spool valve block and as I expect working either on the front or on the back, a kind of switch should be installed. What do think? Thanks in advance.       the threads on these are weird mine was a pipe thread I believe it was 3/8 NPT national pipe thread. some of the tractors have BSPT british straight pipe thread. you best bet is remove the block and take it to a local hydraulic shop. they can measure it exactly and sell you exactly what you need hoses and all. I like the J.I.C pipe thread connectors I also like the "o" ring style hydraulic fittings. so if you find out yours is a national pipr thread which is a tapered thread convert it right away with a NPT to JIC or something more user friendly. my reason for saying this is the NPT being a tapered thread does not handle removal and install more than a few times. this can be a problem. for example right now my tractor is in pieces and the JIC fitting came right apart easily and will go right back together and not leak, the NPT not so easy and likely will leak. you cant hardly have to many spool valves on a tractor. I always thought all I needed was two on the rear. I was wrong I wish I had three back there. I may add one at some point. I love the top and tilt and that requires two spool valves. a third would mean I could build a small dump trailer and have the third spool valve power the dump cylinder. or run a sickle mower boom, post driver or maybe any number of other things. you can always run hoses from the back or front to power various things. snow plows on the front with up down and side to side angles would require two spool valves. anyhow I hope this helps and if I can be of more help just let me know.     Hi Dave. I am looking for the type or name of fittings you used on your manifold block for the lines coming from your front end loader and the line coming from the rear of your tractor. Those line lead to your back to tank port on the manifold and feature and T-fitting and some type of fitting connecting into the block. What type of T-fitting is that as well as the fitting you used to extend the T-fitting out from the block?

      the manifold block on mine has a national pipe thread. I actually changed it from this configuration to another configuration that works better and protrudes less. I can email you a picture if you contact me via email at Daveknowshow@aol.com the fitting I used was a 3/8 NPT male to 3/8 JIC female adaptor which connects to a 3/8 jic T connector with 3 JIC male fittings which the hoses hook into from the loader and rear remotes back to tank lines. if you would like a picture of what that looks like just email me and ask for the pictures of the manifold. I will be happy to send them ASAP.

      pull it apart! more likely a broken spring bad Oring or something that has the port clogged up. could be as simple as trash in the valve. pressure relief stuck open or even linkage issues can also create this problem.

    Great video. I have a question. I currently don't have rear remotes. I want to add a spool valve with 2 levers and 4 connections but not sure what type of lever valve I will need. The function will be to turn on and turn off a external hydraulic motor. The motor is on a 3pt small potato digger that drives a potato chain. It will need to stay on when I engaged the valve lever and turn off when I disengage the valve lever. I know there is detent, not detent, etc....

      a detent style valve may work although during a bumpy ride the valve may spring back from the jolting and that would shut the motor off. I would try contacting Brian Brooks over at brooks ag parts and see if he can help you select a valve. you will need to know the flow rate of your hydraulic system which is listed in your owners manual under specifications try this number for Brian tell him I sent you there from youtube. 513 715 0532 if he cant nail down a valve for you try surplus center hydraulics get the number online. if that dont render any good results for you let me know and I will try to help you figure out which valve I would use if I was doing it myself on my machine. hope this helps.       more likely on that year tractor its a 3/8 NPT my suggestion is take it to a hydraulic shop and let them check the threads. if it is 3/8 NPT thread "national pipe thread" then get an adapter and change it to either J.I.C fittings or "o" RING boss fittings. the J.I.C is the best. they cost more but well worth it.

    Great video. You're video has helped me understand how hydraulics work. I have a question about when would you add a cooler and where would you place it in the line?

      you always want a cooler if you are using the hydraulics a lot for say a front end loader, backhoe or something similar. all of these tractors come from the factory with a cooler installed. I merely left the cooler out of the circuit merely to save time and space. but the cooler is there located at the end of the circuit just before the fluid dumps back to tank for further cooling before the next use. the cooler is physically located in front of the radiator on most tractors. make sure you keep it clean. check it often when mowing or brush hogging as they get clogged up and can cause thermal break down of the hydraulic fluid. thanks for a great question. you are the first to ask which surprised me it has taken this long for someone to point out that I left the cooler out of the circuit.

    Thanks for this great video. I don't fully understand though... I just purchased a 2022 Kubota B2601 and the power beyond port goes directly to the tank. I watched some videos of how to add rear remotes and they just take that line off and utilize it for rear remote spools. But that doesn't seem to line up with this video that always shows the PB going to the 3 point. In my head somehow the power beyond has to have pressure against it otherwise it would just relieve all the pressure in the system going straight to the tank, right? I mean I know that seems right to me but somehow it can't be? Thanks for your help!

      Yes it bypasses straight to tank until you move the three point lever. Then the pressure increases due to load. Once three point is in position and is satisfied via the feedback rod the valve reverts back to dumping to tank. In other words the three point control valve dumps to tank and is the last valve in the circuit. Also when no spool valve is calling for fluid power the system shows very low to no pressure.pressure is only present when fluid is place into a path of resistance. As in into a hydraulic cylinder. I also learned that when folks called the line on my tractor that goes from loader valve PB port to the 'tank' it is actually going to the 3 point first, as you're saying. That helped clear things up for me, too. It is a little hard to understand how there is little to no pressure in the system normally, but when something calls for fluid somehow pressure appears. Sounds like magic to me lol. Thanks again!

    Thanks you for your knowledge, Can you answer a question. I had to replace my pump on my tractor because something caused it to continue to spin the nut off that holds the gear on to the pump. Which caused the keyway break or ? Needless to say my new pump has done the same thing. Can you tell what is wrong, this cost to much to continue to do this. FYI I am new to tractors but have needed one for 15 years. I have small mini farm. Thanks in advance

      ok so this is just a theory so take it for what its worth. its my understanding these pumps run continuously as long as the tractor motor is running. the faster the rpm of the motor the faster the pump turns. this is one reason its important to run at 540 pto speed or higher specifically on HST model tractors. my opinion on what is happening to your tractor is this. when the pump is spinning its under near zero pressure as its in an open center hydraulic circuit state. the hydraulic fluid runs freely under zero or near zero back pressure from the pump through the circuit and back to tank as the diagram shows. its only when we use a function that pressure occurs due to its use. or in the event of some type of blockage. for example the soft low pressure return line could collapse and cause a restriction in the flow which would increase pressure and hold that pressure for far to long. additionally a hydraulic filter could collapse internally or have some other obstruction that is stopping the flow causing long term extreme high pressure. when ever you remove a filter look inside the port where that filter goes in and inspect it for chunks of metal to large to come through the port. on rare occasions casting debris from the rear housing can break off and cause a block in flow. also a relief valve that will not properly open will also restrict flow and can cause the same problem with pump failure. I hear people adding shim packs to increase lift capacity and many times that is a recipe for disaster. you could install a pressure gauge on the lines used for "back to tank" and also "power beyond" as well as one line going to the curl cylinder on the front end loader. check these gauges for abnormal reading. the back to tank would in my opinion read near zero with little pressure. " I could be wrong on that so ask your dealer" the power beyond should read the same when nothing is being used. the one going to the loader function should read zero when not used and go up to the rated hydraulic pressure of your tractor when the valve is open. holding the valve open and after the bucket is fully curled the pump should get a little louder and the pressure meter should remain at or fall below that constant measure. if the reading continues to rise you have a faulty relief valve and it should be calibrated or replaced. be sure and check the return hose that feeds the pump as that hose can collapse and cause restrictions that would increase pump pressure that the relief valve would have zero control over to relieve. additionally a crack in that line can introduce air in the system at the pump and cause cavitation in the pump which raises pump temperatures to extreme measures where failure would occur. again this is purely my opinion based on logic and my limited knowledge of hydraulics on tractors. a good service shop manual for your model tractor would be very valuable to diagnose these issues I have talked about. I have given you some very good concrete concerns to address. take these questions to another person who is a certified Kubota technician and get their opinion on these theories. NOT ALL KUBOTA TECHNICIANS ARE WELL EDUCATED. find one or two or three and get their opinion and compare. Northern tool has hydraulic gauges cheap. the plumbing fitting can be pricey but far cheaper than a new pump. buy three gauges and install them all three. turn on the tractor and write down the reading. do it quickly don't let the tractor run to long and burn up another pump. I hope this helps and I wish I could be more helpful with an absolute fix. I live in chesterfield VA 23838 if you are close by me I would be happy to come by and see what the pump failure looks like and where I would install the gauges.     I have put a three port spool valve on my L4400 Kubuta I do have a front end loader on the tractor with a 3rd function valve.The problem is everything works all but my 3 point hitch! I have unhooked the spool valve and hooked back up as it was before I installed the spool valve the 3 point hitch works great. So I rehooked up the lines as your video 3 point hitch will work if activate the spool valve as soon as you release the lever the 3 point hitch will stop moving so can you tell me what may be going wrong?

      sounds like the power beyond line and the back to tank line are reversed. study your spool valve and identify the power beyond out let port make sure that line hooks into the power beyond port at the manifold block. make sure the back to tank line "if there is one" is hooked to the back to tank port at the manifold block or anywhere in the line just before the manifold block. also check to be sure the flow is correct on the new valve. the line coming out of the third function valve should hood into the inlet of the new three spool valve. if you are still stumped you can email me pictures of your valve and a copy of the model number, brand and instructions and I will help you the best I can. my personal email is Daveknowshow@aol.com

    Merry Christmas !Nice video Dave mostly i agree but i dont think hydrostatic or better closed center loop hydraulics has same diagram as open center loop.
    My japanese hst tractor has a closed center loop, a cast iron manifold placed in right side near under foot pedal with 3 ports( high pressure -low pressure and return pressure) low pressure is also return so both are T and one is P( power beyond)
    Connecting 2 hoses with FL control valve from tractor in High pressure and low pressure everything works( loader -3point everything)
    Connect 3 hoses or 2 hoses with different connection nothing works or works only FL and no 3point and opposite.
    So my question is if i want to put a backhoe i just connect with a T part the power beyond from the tractor valve to backhoe control valve ? Or need something more?
    Also my tractor manifold where the relief valve has an adjust screw in two levels stamped O and S , when is in O the loader dont work, when is in S all works.

      my tractor is a hydrostatic as well and its set up exactly like this diagram. the backhoe that comes from Kubota is set up to only have a power beyond input and a power beyond output. there is no back to tank port. I think when your manifold is in 0 position that is for when your tractor is delivered with no front end loader and it diverts the fluid in the manifold past the relief valve and up to the three point. when its in the other position it diverts the fluid out the main out port to the front end loader control where it uses the relief valve there first. then exits through the power beyond and returns to the manifold at the power beyond input of the manifold block then past the relief at the manifold block. if you add a backhoe you extend that line to the rear of the tractor and then back to the manifold and into the power beyond input port at the manifold block. when the back hoe is not on you simply plug one hose into the other at the rear of the tractor. this completes the loop. I would say your tractor is also an open center design. fluid is constantly flowing from the pump to the control valves to the hydraulic cooling radiator and back to tank when no control valves are operator. when a valve is operated it becomes some what of a closed center as it diverts fluid to the hydraulic ram. if pressure builds to high the relief opens and dumps the fluid under low pressure back to tank. if I can help in any way please let me know. there are other videos on my channel that show the line from the front end loader controls power beyond port to the rear of the tractor for the backhoe and then from the rear of the tractor back to the manifold into the power beyond input port. those videos may help you as well. EDIT: the answer to your question is NO you do NOT connect with a "T" fitting to the power beyond port to feed the backhoe. you disconnect the line and run it back there. then a new line from back there at the backhoe to the manifold PB port.

    Great video. Like what another person said, pictures help, great diagramming ! Now I understand my hydro system.
    Last fall every time I got a chance to go down to the creek and work on crossing or removing evasive brush, I would spring a hose leak and was done, until the nephews could replace the hose. My wife told them this winter when they go caught up, we wanted all the hoses replaced and they did :-) ......do you think being over 20 yrs. old would have any thing to do with it ?

      Yes it is, you must keep it waxed, because it always looks like new ?
      Mine use to get waxed a couple times a year, back when I could, I don't even know when the last time it saw wax.

      actually I have never waxed this tractor. I do wipe diesel fuel over the hood when it spills or where ever I need to remove heavy grease. I have power washed it a couple times . I may try and wax mine this spring. been sick with a terrible cold the last few days so I been unable to get online just too sick. I wanted to answer your comment so I popped on for just a few minutes. hope you are both feeling well.

    Thank you Dave - I've got a walvoil 2 spool valve with a joy stick running a FEL on my L2600 and it's booger'd up somehow. Asked a guy to re-build and now on "float", the bucket is floppy...useless. I have a question though - on the PB circuit back from the spool valve - to the manifold block - is that a straight pass-through to the tank? Much thanks -

      yes and no. not so much "straight to tank" it makes one more stop. it hits the three point lift to be available pressure if the three point calls for it. if the three point does not call for hydraulic power then yes it dumps straight to tank after it goes through the cooling radiator to reduce the temperature of the fluid. hope that helps. note also in this video we do NOT show the cooling radiator for the hydraulic system. it simply was not needed to explain how the system works.

      actually the three point does use the main relife valve as its relief protection. same with the backhoe as well. additionally the loader control valve also has a relief that is set higher than factory spec and will kick in should the main system relief fail and the pressure exceeds the factory setting of the loader valve which is typically 3000 psi
