I definitely do not recommend placing soil on the cut. That’s a good way to introduce bacteria. It’s better for the area to dry and scab over.

      @Mycityplants  ปีที่แล้ว +8

Thank you, Josh, for your comment. The little bit of soil that used to cover the cut dries out sooooo fast and have never created any bacterial issue for me .... but this is in my experience...

@@Mycityplants if it works for you great! In my opinion I feel that since the plant will callus over either way, there’s no reason for rubbing dirt in an open wound.
Just like how you wouldn’t rub soil into a cut on your skin; probably won’t harm you but it’s better to keep it clean to minimize infection.

My dear Juliette, I’m looking your videos since this weekend and I am overwhelmed of you. I was looking for some help with my Paradiesvogel. It was in a sad mood. All leaves where hanging and I didn’t get the reason. I start to repot it to give more stability. And so I found damage at the roots. White crumbs were sitting on the roots and little nests with white little eggs? I didn’t find a Insekt. Obviously it was too good hidden? Anyway I throw away all the soil and browse the root system to remove the remaining soil. Hopefully it was enough to destroy all nests. In a few weeks the bird can go back outside there conditions always be better.
By the way one tip from my side. If you cut a leave close to the soil, make sure, there is no new leave hiding! I cuttend yesterday the damaged leave and the new baby leave at once!
So thank you for all this amazing videos! It makes so much fun, listening and watching you, the queen of all house plants! Big hug from Berlin/Germany Annett

      Hi Annett,
I am sorry that you had some unwanted visitors and they were destroying the roots of your plant.
Hopefully, with all the steps you took, the plant will recover and thrive!
      Thank you for your tip!

Since the plant is outside I would recommend bondi systemic granules every six weeks. They poison the soil and the plant leaf to the pest so that one bite kills them, preventing future infections and getting rid of current ones.

      Hi Gin,
Thank you for your comment and the tip about the leaf cutting process.
Since I only use a very small amount of soil to cover the cut, it dries out really fast and I never had any problems. The cut can be simply left alone to allow it to callus, I just prefer to cover it. :)

Don’t cut the top leaves… if they don’t have issues leave them. If it’s a space issue figure something out, or give/sell it to someone that has space for it. They can become big plants.

How much water does plant need weekly

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christine,
Plants should not be watered on schedule.
The soil needs to be tested once every 7-10 days. When the soil is dry enough, plant can be watered.
How much water to use depends on the size of your plant.
      * Basically you need water amount that is 1/3 of the pot size .

Can you tell me why sometimes the leaf roll up.

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi A K,
This can be the result of a few things: light, watering, nutrients, root issue...
Make sure your Bird of Paradise plant:
      - gets a good amount of light
      - if you have not fertilize it yet, do it from now till end of September
** How and When To Fertilize plants video: bit.ly/3teZEaw
      - check your watering routine.
Make sure the plant is not over or under-watered.
Soil should be dry approx. half way through before your plant gets watered.
      * I strongly recommend getting the Soil Moisture Meter bit.ly/2yuXVpc
Bird of Paradise plants should be watered when the meter reading is in the 4-5 zone
      - make sure the pot is not too small or too big for your plant.
The root system should have about 3-5 inches of soil around it.
      - check the roots.
Take the plant out of the pot and examine the roots.
Any dark, mushy roots should be removed.
If you have lots of bad roots, after trimming those, repot the plant in a fresh soil
** make sure the pot has drainage and your plant is not sitting in water after watering.

Green Luck, and hope your plant will get stronger and thrives! 🌱

      Hi!
Sorry to learn that your plant is not thriving :(
Here are some common reasons why your Bird of Paradise plant is not growing/producing new leaves:
Lighting: Bird of paradise plants thrives in bright, indirect light.
If the plant is not receiving enough light, it may slow down its growth or stop producing new leaves.
Watering: Overwatering or underwatering can both be problematic.
Ensure that you are providing a consistent watering schedule and allowing the soil to dry half way down before watering again.
** you may use my favorite tool amzn.to/3U6wXxm for establishing a proper watering.
Here is the video about how to use the soil moisture meter: bit.ly/3TI2sMb
BOP should be watered when the meter reading is in 4-5 moisture zone
Nutrients: Bird of paradise plants benefit from regular fertilization during the growing season (spring and summer).
Lack of essential nutrients may hinder growth.
Root-bound: If the plant has outgrown its current pot and the roots are becoming crowded, it may affect its ability to grow.
Consider repotting into a larger container if necessary.
Temperature: Bird of paradise plants prefer warm temperatures. If the environment is too cold, growth may slow down.
Ensure the plant is in a suitable temperature range.
Disease or Pests: Check for signs of pests or diseases.
Insects or infections can stress the plant and impede growth.
Hope this is helpful and your plant will recover and thrive once the necessary adjustments are made.
      Green Luck!
