A healthy mix of shred and melody makes a good solo. Use melody from beginning to the build up section, then use shred when it reached climax. Marty Friedman's solo is another good example. You can see it from Tornado of Souls and Five Magics solos. Melody -> Shred -> Melody -> Shred etc.
Nostalgia hit right in. Old fans will remember. I fucked up my wall because I hung up my cables like he did back than in front of the metal plate on the wall. But I used nails for that. Tons of nails. Tons of holes. Oopsie. But the owner of this flat was cool with it as I moved out. "We want to change the walls anyways." OK. Good shit.
A melody has thought put into making each note flow into the next, which is why it sticks to your head. Shredding is literally playing a lot of notes in quick succession in a way that both looks and sounds cool. The difference between the two is that shredding is often too fast to even process how many notes there are in each section, let alone how they flow into each other. It's like comparing Eddie Van Halen and Kurt Cobain: both are cool as fuck, but they're clearly different in the way they approach music.
I mean when you have two guitarists it's pretty easy. Like Dragonforce for example they do mostly shred , but an occasion half of the songs have Melody and shred
In my opinion, a healthy combination is the best (e.g. starting melodic, climax with shred and finishing melodic?). Great playing! Greetings from Germany!

I don't know man, your shredding was too melodic I was expecting mindless shredding, but it was way more melodic and well structured. I liked it, though.
Well that's what make mindless shreddings "suck"; they have no feel. So shred really has to have at least some melody to fit the rhythm *just my opinion*

MKz VL well playing melodically takes a deeper understanding of the entire instrument entirely. You can learn licks and scales and fun tricks, but that’s just playing notes. To play melodically, you need to be able to put emotion into it, your heart and soul. Once you get over the emotional barricade, then your playing will sound amazing, disregarding the speed.
