Thank you so much for this informative video I'm new to cat breeding. I'm extremely excited and will be working on cat pens which I think is a great idea. This is the first time that I watched your video and will continue to follow. Thank you! 😊
I loved watching this. It's great seeing your set up. I would love to see things more slowly. For example, I'd love you to go through the process of the cleaning of the litter and the OzPet system.
Wonderful video. You are extremely helpful and informative. I am retired and entertaining idea of Persian breeding since it's my favorite breed however only want to start out with one couple. Am concerned about my male peeing on things (since am a nutcase about not having pee anywhere other than my 6 litter boxes) and would highly appreciate your opinion: breed them vs. not.
Boys have to be housed as students cats. You can love them like a pet but they need to be housed like a stud. And cats are not like dogs. You don’t get a breeding pair. You need four of five cats. The aim is to progressively improve the type and temperament not just to have kittens. They are a breed that needs extra grooming. But it’s super rewarding and showing them is fun. So if all of that fits then go for it. If not you can still get a shoe cat and shoe in the desexed class.
Ha ha. There is a video on my Instagram page and Facebook showing it from the front. I think there will be more tours in the future. I have filmed one of my boys pens.
Fantastic video. Thank you so much. This is my dream. I’m in the process of registering a persian Cattery here in South Africa. I’m starting small, but I need to start somewhere. Thank you so much for sharing your cattery. I am pretty handing and actually enjoy cage building. I use to raise rabbits but due to COVID I was no longer attending showing, so gave it up. This is in means of diminishing what a great cattery you have built. When I had rabbits I never used wood because it is difficult to clean and bacteria can find breeding grown in wood. Have you had any problems with this in your cattery? I am not very good about finding answers on TH-cam to questions I ask. I am not sure if there is another way of receiving a response without providing personal information. Thank you again. It gives me hope that I can actually create a home for my cats.
Wood is fine. Bacteria will grow on any surface in the right conditions 😀. Cats are not germy animals. We share our homes, couches, beds and lives with them and they are not a source of pathogens. Their areas, kept clean of course, are low risk.
It can be hard and I bet you feel like you are always playing musical chairs. The stress of not having space the way I wanted it has been pretty constant in my hobby. I feel good now but it’s not easy especially in suburbia.
Hi Pamela you have answered my messages before on videos of your I’ve lost how to get back to you sorry , Can you tell me do you think a ragdoll cat would be ok to mix with a Scottish fold ? , I understand there there maybe questions about Scottish folds and there health line but is it true ?. Can you tell me your opinion on breeding these two cat breeds and if you think it’s best to breed just same breed of cats together . Thank you Pamela.
There is no way I would ever put them together because, unless I had an experimental program approved by the association I am with, I am not allowed to cross breed and I would not be able to register the kittens. For me being a cat show judge and the registrar for my association (plus a registered breeder for n army twenty years) I just can’t tell you how important it is to me that cat breeders are registered and only breed with registered cats in approved breeding programs. So the answer is no, never because that is just not allowed regardless of health of nature or otherwise.
The barn is 120sqm and the cats have 80sqm. They have their own big evap aircon. The other side is Damien’s woodworking workshop and it has its own aircon. Pens on one side are 3m by 1.8m. There is one that is divided in two and one half size one. The other size is 2.4m by 1.8m. They have a removable panel and are normally opened up into two big pens. There is a lot of flexibility.
I prefer plastic. I have a dishwasher for my cats and it gets them very clean. They are lighter to carry, come in better shapes and sizes and I like them more than metal pans.

I live in a semi rural area and only have two direct neighbors. They have no issues with the noise. One says she just knows it means kittens are coming. When we lived in suburbia it was still in the boys outside pen but only during the day. It all depends on your cats and your situation though.
That’s very helpful. I am in the berbs so I’ll be sure to have a dedicated pen when the time comes. My stud will stay at my mothers’ house and then bring him over for their conjugal visit. 😅
Is it possible to put 7 to 10 female cats together in a big area or is it better to seperate them like 3s or 4s in pens? Thank you for the great info!!
Both can work but it depends on the cats. I would recommend small groups as you can really see who is eating well, toileting okay and not being picked on or fighting. Too many can be fine for the dominant cats but stressful for the submissive cats. You also have the risk of illness. If one gets sick they all get sick and a smaller group is easier to contain. If you want them to have space but can’t have them in big pens in small groups consider a shared area. Smaller pens but take turns in the bigger space. Great question
can you speak about the toms, how do you set up the mating, how often should they mate so they dont pee like that, how do you keep them separate from the queens, what do you do with the queens after they have had 4 litters and are not allowed to mate again, and how do you control the queens when they go into heat and you cannot mate them as a queen can only have a litter every year
That’s a lot 😀. I will be filming more soon. Just quickly the number of girls a bit has won’t determine if he sprays or not. They just do or they don’t. And in my association we don’t have a four litter rule or a once a year rule. I believe breeders know their own cats. Some I have desexed after one litter as it was best for them and some I have had a last litter at six or seven years old. One was even ten. She had a lot of litters. I got her at two, she had her first litter at three and I would say she had at least six litters for me. She is a loved desexed pet girl here now. Super healthy but at her happiest when she had kittens. I think the issue is not everyone breeds with their cats best interests at heart so associations have had to step in to do it for them. It is a shame. Other peoples bad behavior means you now have to use hormones to control your cats natural breeding cycle. ☹️
Does anyone know if you can get a chocolate male cat from a blue queen?my kitten is a chocolate boy and his parents are blue female and blue colourpoint male. Is this possible?
@@ayeshapyesha7301 Sorry I read the question wrong. Two blues cant give you a chocolate. Two dilutes cant give you a solid. I just saw mum was blue. I didn't realise dad was too LOL. Send me a picture to my Cat Breeding for Beginners facebook page :) Maybe one of them isn't blue. Or could another cat have been dad.
Hi I’m wanting to chat with a breeder I’d possible. I have a female cat that I’m trying to breed with my friends Tom cats he’s a new breeder . She was scared and hissing for the first 5 days it’s now been 8 days since she’s been there my question is will she come into heat again sooner since she’s around the Tom cats and is used to them now or should I wait till she comes into heat again and take her back ? Hope to hear from you soon😻 love yer set up btw
I am sorry but I can't help you. I don't think you are a registered cat breeder. I am a registered breeder and do not condone anyone breeding from non-registered cats. They should be desexed and loved as pets. If you are registered let me know.
So many questions! Do I need to start with female and a male? Or can the girls be taken to boys to mate (like dogs do)? Do I need cages if I only have say 2 females to start with.
Girls first and two is great. You can keep them in the house but be aware they may pee on things and be loud when they call. So start thinking about how you might deal with that if it happens. Boy later. If you can use someone else’s boy and breed your own even better. See if your cats breeder could have them back for an unrelated mating. Cat breeding and dog breeding is very different. Much more structured and breeding animals not pets in the way you manage them.
I use the Oz-pet wood pellet litter system. Basically it's wood heater pellets in a special sieve tray. Check out their website. Its australian but you might be able to get similar over there.
my british shorthair is 4 monthes old. how do i find a mate for her, does he have to live with us? + should i be breeding her at all? i obviously don’t plan breeding her till she’s atleast 18mths but planning for the future 😊 thank you!!!
If she is a pet desex her now. She can become pregnant from about now onwards. Breeding cats are not easy to live with. If she is not a pedigree cat with registration papers saying she is a registered breeding female desex her now. If you do want to breed cats as a hobby you need to do a lot of research. They are a lot harder to keep than breeding dogs. It’s an expensive hobby. I love it but it’s a lot to get into 😀

I'm dreaming about to start my own Cashmere Bengal cattery. Only challenge is that I'm not living in the house, but big apartment. Do I have to own a house?
It would be pretty impossible to breed cats in an apartment but especially Bengal who can be loud and stinky. Then Cashmere is rare so you would need to have more cats yourself as other breeders won’t have them to share with you.
I'm planning to have small cattery. I don't want big cattery. Not especially with cages. All cats for breedings would come from abroad, because I'm based in Europe. I would have 2-3 females and 1 male. Fom the beginning it would be 1. Breeding would happen every other year. One cat would be breeded only twice and only every other year.

So useful! I have a boy and girl but once the boy hits adulthood i dont know how to deal with spraying….? So glad to have found ur channel. My kitten is awesome cant wait to breed him. Hes a lilac siamese💗 …. But i dont want my house being sprayed.
Oh sorry I didnt read this question first. Who is helping you? What association are you with? It sounds like you have the cats but not much guidance and thats a shame. He will stink even if he doesnt spray so yes he needs a stud pen. His breed is pretty stinky and you dont want him getting to your girl before you are ready to mate them I have been to Florida and I know what you mean by a screened porch and no I dont think that would be suitable as they will get through fly screen and get out. You need a mesh plus it needs to be protected from the elements. If he is a kitten you have time to do some research and plan it out :)
I use breeders choice cat litter, my question have you used Breeders choice cat litter before, if so which one is the best out of breeders choice or Oz pet cat litter?
I love Ozpet especially for in the house. If you get the system running well then the smell and the tracking is so much better than any other litter. Breeders choice I will use if I can get Ozpet or for shows as it is lighter. 😀
The whole building is 110sqm but I only have two thirds as the cattery 😀. Why not check out my new breeders club here www.catbreedingforbeginners.com/new-cat-breeders-club

Hi Alex I'm new to breeding and I was thinking about breeding Bengals myself do you have videos of your cattery or how you breed your cats? I think that would be a interesting video to watch on how to safely breed cats and know the signs when your cat is in heat.
Thanks for the very helpful info! My pet cat population has grown a little too large, so I'm looking for better ways to take care of a lot of cats. ❤️We've had most of them for at least 5 years, so i wouldn't want to or couldn't break up the community. I'm not sure if it would be healthy for the others either hierarchy wise? My mom and I are going to be moving in the next year or so, so I'm starting to plan better living conditions for them and us! Cleaner spaces for everybody!! I also liked the idea if a house rotation, and the individual cat food bins. Thanks again!❤️❤️ Psalm 145❤️❤️
A video on a single cat pen or just whats needed to start would be great. I dont know what to build for him once puberty hits. I thought he would just live inside like a normal neutered pet cat. 😅
Oh like what they all are on the pens? Lol they are all Herberts from just the year before covid plus some from when we started showing again. I only keep a year or so plus I give a tonne back to the clubs to recycle :) I have a box of ones that mean a lot though. Might dust them off :)
@@CatBreedingforBeginners id love to see! I have just got into showing , my second show is next month can’t wait for many more in the future too! 😂 love your channel ❤️
Males don’t come in heat. Females do. Three days do you can count 65 days forward and know when kittens are due. That way you can be ready with the birthing area for her.
It’s a super hot day. The windows have block out boards across them to stop any extra heat from coming in. At night they come off and the windows are opened up for the breeze. If it is really hot though they stay closed and the aircon stays on. During winter they get the sun coming in and love to sit on the window shelves.
One question, just one damn Question, is really really just one question! *Why A Cat Breeders Mostly A Woman? Especially For Westerners or White People. Why? Whyyyy?* I though they more to Dogs person than a cats person. 🤔🤔

Your argument is exactly the same logic as saying no one can have a baby because there are children dying in Africa. Plus you have not even taken the time to see what I am about. First up I am in Australia not Texas. Secondly I advocate hard for early desexing prior to adoption. Thirdly I recommend donating and supporting animal charities. Lastly like all good breeders I take back any cat of any age that I have bred if the owner can’t keep them. So contributing zero percent to your list of problems. People choose breeds that suit their lifestyle and have the temperament they want to own. That means they are less likely to end up in rescue as they are a good fit for that home long term. But thanks for the spam post. Pretty sure it will have about the same impact on me as I have on you. Zero.
Sorry you feel that way. This has been my most popular video. I can’t see how I wasted your time though as you are free to just not watch it if you didn’t like it 😂😂😂.

Does anyone know if you can get a chocolate male cat from a blue queen?my kitten is a chocolate boy and his parents are blue female and blue colourpoint male. Is this possible?
Yes if the blue carries chocolate 🍫
@@CatBreedingforBeginners wow I had no idea if that was even possible! Have you ever seen this happen? I appreciate the reply thanks so much
@@ayeshapyesha7301 Sorry I read the question wrong.
@@CatBreedingforBeginners thank you so much for your reply. Bron.

How many female cats do you have and how many male cats do you have all together in your cattery that are used for breeding?
It changes every season. I have a few more boys than most people as I have a colour that is not common.
Thank you for this great visual. Where is your kitten area? Would you be willing to share that space and how you work that?
I have shared some videos of my kitten set up. Check them out on my channel :)
I see your birthing area, but I don’t see where and how you manage toddler kittens. Would you be willing to share that?
If you go to my Cuddleton facebook page there are videos galore of kittens playing once they are old enough to come out :)

What kind of litter tray do you use? Maybe they don’t have it in the US?
I love it but it’s a lot to get into 😀
How often do you breed them? : Whats the normal resting period?
Depends on the breed. Mine are seasonal so normally every year. Sometimes three times in two years. Other breeds will have different gaps.
@@CatBreedingforBeginners do they retire after the third or fourth litter?
@@roserainbird2365 Some retire after one, some after two or three and now and again some retire after six or seven. I dont have a rule. I look at lots of factors.
Hi, I'm Pamela and I breed British Shorthair cats in Perth, Western Australia. I have a passion for cat breeding and helping others who are new to the hobby.
Whether you are new to cat breeding and need some help or you've been doing it a while and would love some new tips I'm here to share what I have learned along the way.

Amazing channel!
Thanks!

We actually use garden soil,it saves tons of money and is recyclable
Nice - really moved along.
It’s the selfie stick. I thought I saw you had one so copied lol
What are your barn dimensions?
The whole building is 110sqm but I only have two thirds as the cattery 😀. Why not check out my new breeders club here www.catbreedingforbeginners.com/new-cat-breeders-club
Hi. Im looking to import a kitten from a breeder in Europe. Can you share the contact details of the german breeder you mentioned?
Do you mean Crystal Flames? 🔥
@@CatBreedingforBeginners thank you so much. Really appreciate it :)
I’ve watched all your videos and will continue too, I’m the one breeding bengals, love your channel your so informative! Is there anyway I could get into contact with you? I’d love to buy a cat from you of eventually and learn of course!
Hi Alex. I have British Shorthairs so very different to Bengals!! I am hoping to do something live so everyone can interact. Stay tuned!

That’s great. I never thought of it in terms of desexed pet cats but yes, anything to make life simpler means more time to love them. ❤️
A video on a single cat pen or just whats needed to start would be great. I dont know what to build for him once puberty hits. I thought he would just live inside like a normal neutered pet cat. 😅
Ha you have seen the other one now :)
hello its possible drunked agresive cat ? thx
To medically sedate an aggressive cat? Pet cat or breeding cat and why?
Can you do a rosette tour? ❤️ lovely cattery 😊
How many days female cat meat with male in heat ???
Males don’t come in heat. Females do. Three days do you can count 65 days forward and know when kittens are due. That way you can be ready with the birthing area for her.

It’s been two weeks! Where are you lol we miss you!
That's funny. Just made a new video and I am giving it a quick edit then I will post it up.
This is literally my dream life
Lol you say that till you have to clean the poop trays 🤣
@@CatBreedingforBeginners I actually already have 9 cats and I will admit the litter trays arent nice to deal with but I'd love to have a cattary
there are no windows:(
It’s a super hot day. The windows have block out boards across them to stop any extra heat from coming in. At night they come off and the windows are opened up for the breeze. If it is really hot though they stay closed and the aircon stays on. During winter they get the sun coming in and love to sit on the window shelves.
Lol I just realized why my friend told me to stop cat calling 😆
Lol
I ❤️ u like you
That’s nice 😊
One question, just one damn Question, is really really just one question!
*Why A Cat Breeders Mostly A Woman? Especially For Westerners or White People. Why? Whyyyy?*
I though they more to Dogs person than a cats person. 🤔🤔
Maybe try google?
@@CatBreedingforBeginners Google Doesn't really works.
So This is still s Mystery to me 😁
Please don’t tell me That you really like cats with millions of them being euthanized annually because they’re simply or enough homes to go around.$$$
Like cats? I love them. Not sure I love people that troll others on TH-cam though 😀
Funny how you avoid the truth.
@@christinadickson8261 probably more funny how you try a second time to engage with me and bait me into a debate. Nope, sorry.
@@CatBreedingforBeginners yet not a mention of all the cats killed because simply aren’t enough homes to go around.
Every cat breeder should read this
Who hasn't seen the ASPCA commercials about homeless n abused animals? It exists bc everyone turns a blind eye.
Don't breed to abuse n kill.
Help with the million Texas street dogs n cata suffering, starving, breeding n dying in the streets. Or rescue street cats n dogs where you live. Volunteer at your local shelter n give the animals your voice. Spay n Neuter.
Don't breed . adopt a homeless street dog or a dog from a shelter.
This is not cute it's a insult to animal control that has to kill pets bc of overpopulation. Get your pets spay n neutered. There are not enough pet homes n animals are being killed because there is no more space. We cannot adopt our way out of the dog cat overpopulation.
Do the animals n world a favor don't breed to kill.
Zero.
Hi my name is tabitha you breed cats? The cat population is overpopulated
Hi Tabitha. Yes I breed cats.
Unnecessary talk. Thumbs down👎 for wasting my time!!!!!👎👎
Sorry you feel that way. This has been my most popular video. I can’t see how I wasted your time though as you are free to just not watch it if you didn’t like it 😂😂😂.
