    Thank you for all of your videos, but this one in particular. Some breeders seem to think there is only one way to do things. We all know of “ugly” cats who go on to earn DMs. Also thank you for mentioning personality, so often this doesn’t come up. If I have to choose between the two, I’ll take a great personality over great type any day.

      100%. I could breed the most stunning cat ever but if it doesn’t have an easy going personality it will never be a show cat. And if my cats are not friendly I will never find homes for the kittens I don’t keep. It’s a big deal. Thanks for the feedback ❤️

    This may be a bit of a strange question, but it’s regarding when you start selling some of the kittens. Do you treat it as a business? As a new person getting into breeding, should I be claiming all of the enclosures etc because later on I’ll be taxed when I sell them. Do breeders just sell them and not declare anything because it’s a hobby?

    • @CatBreedingforBeginners
      @CatBreedingforBeginners  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s a really expensive hobby. There are people who do breed for profit but not me. I breed to pay my expenses. In Australia, you would have to show that you are breeding as primary industry like a farm. You wouldn’t be able to claim any expenses until you can show that it’s a profit making enterprise. But if you have any concerns, you can talk to an accountant everyone circumstances are different.

    Thank you very much for your great Video!
    I am at the very begining at the moment and I have a lilac Stud (he was my first and he was bought as a pet cat who was also available for breeding he inspired me to start breeding) and a cinnamon girl.
    The Problem I have is that i had my girl treated with Delvosteron at 7 months age because I was scared she would get pregnant too soon (both cats live together with me and are not seperated, she had never called before) and my vet also recommended it so I went with it.(now I really regret it and I know it was way to early for her)
    9 months later my girl is over a year old now and still hasn‘t called. my stud tries to mate all the time but she just rolles over and wouldn‘t let him.
    I dont know what to do at this point anymore and hope you would maybe know how I should treat this Situation. I would be very very thankfull for some advice.
    Thank you again and kind regards!

    • @CatBreedingforBeginners
      @CatBreedingforBeginners  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think you have been given the wrong advice by the wrong people. To start with it is not the best idea to start with a boy. Having a stud cat is not having a pet cat. He needs to be kept differently. You have been letting him live like a pet and it has caused you two problems. One, he could mate your girl. To solve this problem you treated her with a hormone so she would not get pregnant. That makes no sense to me. The actual solution is to treat them like breeding cats and separate them. It’s just such an unknown thing to mess with a cats hormones unless you really really need to and you had physical separation as an option but I guess no one told you? Okay second problem. She might not be coming into season but he is still a stud cat. He will bother her and bother her and bother her. It’s not fair on her to be in that situation. And the solution again is physical separation. You need a nice stud quarter for him. She may be not calling due to the hormones but also she may be seasonal. You want to be in control of the mating when she does call so you can know when kittens will be due. So separate them or desex him. He is a stud boy not a pet. You can love him the same but you need to keep him differently. I hope that helps.

    I have two cats female and male that live together in one room in the house I call it the cat apartment. There 3 months old and I plan on breeding once they reach a mature age and I know I have to act fast and rearrange there living situation because they start going into heat and there cycles in couple months. Watching your video on the cattery set up I'm thinking about creating the pens in the bedroom one for the male and one for the female. My question is can I also create a birthing spot in the same room but separate from the female pen? Like create a whole new pen just for birthing? The bedroom is pretty big and spacious.

    • @CatBreedingforBeginners
      @CatBreedingforBeginners  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So… they need to be kept separately. Absolutely you can set up a pen for the boy but he needs a decent amount of space as that is his whole life 24/7. Think of yourself being confined to one room 24/7 and how big that room would need to be to feel comfortable 😀. The girl can just live in your home. She doesn’t need a pen but it is good to have a space for her in case her behavior isn’t great ie she pees on things. I would not recommend them in the same room as he will know she is there and call and spray. I think there is a big knowledge gap around housing breeding cats. It’s not as simple as with dogs unfortunately.

      @@CatBreedingforBeginners oh ok I was just going based of your video where you had all your cats in the barn on one side you had the females and on the other side the males. So it's the male that needs to be more confined the female can roam freely. And yes plenty of room to play and walk and stretch out is my number one goal. 😊

    • @CatBreedingforBeginners

      Sorry I didnt see this till today. I had boys in the barn due to the heat. Normally I dont have studs in the barn. Its just desexed cats and girls in there normally. Maybe Herbet too as he is my current showstar :)

    I would love to know more about genetics. Say my goal are lilac in color but my starter cat is a tortie and my starter stud is black. What colors or patterns should I be looking for to get to my goal?

    • @CatBreedingforBeginners
      @CatBreedingforBeginners  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lilac is the dilute version of chocolate so both cats need to be chocolate or lilac or carry the recessive gene in order to produce it. They also need to be dilute or carry dilute for the kitten to be dilute. To get lilac from a black and a tortie they would both need to carry choc and dilute. If they don’t carry you will get black, red and black tortie. If they carry dilute you may also get blue, cream and blue tortie. If they carry choc you may also get lilac, choc and lilac and choc torties.

      @@alanat8840 Well you shouldn't be having to confine her as she should already be housed in a way that a male cat doesn't have access to her. It is super important to have housing for your cats. This can be be in your home sure but it needs to be somewhere you can keep different cats separately. Girls away from boys, mums having kittens away from your pet cats. :)
