Yasss, girlll!!! Cutting it yourself is SO freeing!!! Gave myself a big chop a couple of months ago and I was goin for the the EXACT picture you showed the hairstylist!! Save your money and cut it yourself from now on. Turned out beautiful! 💕
Ugh that awesome release of when you started to cut your own hair, like I could imagine that it felt therapeutic as you started to see that you were fixing it!
YOU DID THAT!!! You did a way better job than the salon. That's hella cold they made you walk out like that! Thank you for putting this out there, your transparency is refreshing!!! Liked and subscribed... I'm also going to head over to the gram and follow you over there as well. 💛💛💛
I was thinking of going there but now I'm in doubt. I sort of had an experience like that at JoeMiguel'sRizos. He is suppose to be a great curly hair stylist. I went and paid over $100 for a curly cut. The first day it was nice but after I washed my hair the curls were gone! It just looked like a regular bob afterwards! Never again! You did a better job than them! I've cut my hair myself before and the same as you, not afraid to do big chops! Good job! You look beautiful!
OMG I have been considering going to Joe Miguel! I'm so weary about getting a bad haircut!! Have you found anyone else that has cut your hair? I'm in the north jersey area but am willing to drive. Regardless thanks for watching!!!
Would you have been mad if she cut off all the dead hair and then you had a pixie or something? I feel like 6 weeks of growth is not enough to get you a style like the one you pictured. Your ask was outside of your range IMO
I beg to differ. The picture was a demonstration of my willingness to cut off whatever was needed to unleash the curl. It is hard to gauge via the video but my natural curl when stretched extended to bottom of my neck. As per being mad with a pixie...did you not see the end result...I gave myself a pixie. In my opinion had the stylist stated the following "you came in for a rezo cut but in actuality you want a big chop" or maybe "a rezo cut is for curly hair. Seeing as though your curls are not long enough, a rezo cut is not my recommendation for you". None of these conversations were had. Grant it I could have been more vocal but telling the stylist feel free to cut what you need to cut and showing a picture as a demonstration and not necessarily as a specific desired style should have been plenty. My error in this entire ordeal was not going back and demanding some form of refund or re-cut at no extra charge. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching. 🤗
They’re an amazing place your hair was literally so bad lol I would’ve seen it and buzzed it off. Don’t let this video stop you from going to them. They’re AMAZING!
I agree they are a great salon. Once my hair grows out I might go back. One thing I would recommend they improve on is in having their stylists be more vocal about what types of cuts are appropriate. My stylist should have stated that my hair was not a good candidate for a rezo cut as I didnt have enough curls. All in all a lesson learned. Thanks so much for watching 🤗😁🤗
That’s crazy you gave yourself a better cut than a professional. She knew she was wrong for not cutting more. And to the people saying you should’ve spoken up is wrong. I never had a stylist that let me walk out looking like I put a leaf blower to my hair. My current stylist don’t even let me walk out when one curl is out of place.
Wow I would have been livid. You should have went back in and asked them to just chop it off for all of that money you paid. But it looks great at the end of the video.
Is not the stylist fault it's hers! She showed The Stylist a picture so, The Stylist didn't want to chop off her hair because she didn't want to overstep. It's was the client job to step up and say "Its not looking right. I'm not happy with this can we change direction" putting it nicely. Because she's is Paying for it! PLUS! She knew her hair was mostly damaged plus the picture doesn't match her natural texture so end goal wasn't realistic. She bugging thinking she has no fault leaving unhappy. Another thing is if The Stylist chopped her hair without let the client now and now basically bald. Then the client not at fault. If I'm paying meaning not FREE and it can be fixed it's your fault.
You were right!! She is the professional and should have told you. You should not have let you leave the shop like that!!! I was going to book an appointment, that a not/no now.
Idk. I'm not a stylist.... I am a natural hair/curly girl so I understand perhaps the limits due to the heat damage but idk I anticipated a different result especially because you said you were willing to get whatever cut necessary to get your curls back...again idk. I would have did the exact thing you did!
Yea, they shouldnt have let you leave like that...people commenting it was your own fault...yet you managed to cut the style you asked for, so...? Ive seen amazing results from Utopia, but not this time! I went to have waist long one length hair cut at a good salon in my own city. I paid more than I usually would, I showed her a photo, of a very achievable layered style, I told her Im happy to sacrifice length for volume and definition, and to just go for it...! She cut a fringe in, no layers, and said ''I think that's enough for today!!'' ? lol I just gave her the money and left, I didnt push it, cos she looked so nervous..even though I didnt have damaged hair, there shouldnt have been an issue. I left with damp hair, by the time it dried it was a triangular bush! She didnt even use enough product! I bought new scissors the same day and cut my own hair! I gave myself the layers I asked her to do, by following YT videos! And it looked amazing! Ive been cutting it myself ever since!
@@HelenKerinsOnce we learn the basics...the mystery goes out of it a bit, and we realize its just a haircut...it's not 'fine art!' We can do it too...though if I had dead straight hair, and wanted a bob with an arch at the back for instance, Id see a stylist. But Im confident now to cut my curls, yours looked great after doing yourself too, God bless hun
@@HelenKerins LOLLLL!!! Chill out, sis...It should have grown out by now. It really didn't look that bad. I thought it made you look....whimsical. Fairy-like.
You had to tell her chop it all, because sometimes there are girls that are obssesed with lenght, and maybe she tought you didn't want to chop your hair.
The stylist should of been honest on how it would look because I can see she gave you the rezo cut but it just doesn’t look good because of the heat damage. If she would of cut more it would of been a different hair cut but it would of worked better. The only way the rezo cut might of worked is if she would of done a rod set after.
And furthermore I just saw that it's the rezo cut....girlll I saw another girl get her cut n how the founder?I'm assuming wined her n dined her n then said 300?or 350. GOD BLESS U AND KEEP ON SINGING TO THE LORD....PRAISE HIM ALL THE WAY TO YOUR BREAKTHROUGHS.OUR GOD IS AWESOME AND MANY TIMES WE MUST PRAISE HIM IN THE HALLWAY.
Your hair wasn’t ready for that cut and she should have told you so. Your hair was damaged. I’m impulsive too so I get it. I usually have major regrets later. Did you tell the stylist that you were okay with a big chop?
Yup I had communicated that to the stylist but came out with a raggedy mop lol!! In hindsight I should have continued to coach her through the cut but I thought she was the hair professional and knew best. Never again.
They did failed you girl!!!!!!!! They could’ve said you have too much hair damage and give you a couple months to come back!!!! Unacceptable let’s go get your money back! Meet me there!
It seems that you were in transition with your hair and had unrealistic expectations for this style. I agree that the stylist should have said no or should have given you a different option. Let's be honest, if the stylist cut your hair as short as you did would it have been an issue as well?
No there would have been no issue. Did you not see the thumbnail, the intro or outro of the video...I chopped off my hair. There was over 2 inches of growth. Not sure how my expectations were unrealistic when I demonstrated a picture of someone with short hair and told the stylist I was not afraid to chop it off. Maybe you should watch the whole video before commenting. Regardless thank you for stopping by.
I'm assuming you from Jersey or around there. Next curly cut you get, follow @jendidthat on Instagram. She used to work at Utopia 2 years ago. That picture you showed she would've killed it. She quit because Utopia owners ain't shit. But Jen is literally the best hair stylist ever. Whatever you want; she could do it.
Krazy Kerins she’s been doing my hair for almost a decade and I seen her perform miracles. She literally has made magic with the bare minimum. We used to work together at a day spa. I was the nail tech and she was the hair stylist.
I think there had to be a miscommunication. Your hair was so damaged, they could not perform miracles obviously, but the stylist went rouge here. She should have just agreed to a big chop period, end of story. Even the cut you did your curls are crawling at best... YIKES!
I did the same thing- transitioned from keratin treatment to curls. I had the exact same thing - those straight ends. I think your hair looked pretty good with the cut you got at the salon. But thats just me. I think you cannot blame anybody but yourself. You went too soon. Or else you could have gotten a pixy. Just my take on it.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. The reality is that the hairdresser could have recommended a big chop. If you watch until the end when I cut my own hair you will notice that I did have sufficient curls. The front still had some straight ends which was to be expected. Regardless my opinion is mine and yours is yours. Be safe boo
I can't believe they let u walk out like that! even if they were hesitant to cut it all off it's like they made no attempt at shaping what they left, smh
I think you expectations were a bit too high considering you had processed your hair for so long, I don’t have curly hair struggles but that is my humble opinion. Sorry you were disappointed ☹️
Marie Diana when you go to a well known salon like Utopia, you should have high expectations. Especially when you pay a lot of money. You’re right when you say you don’t have curly hair struggles because the struggle is real .😕
No love I beg to differ. My expectations were fine as I knew I had a minimum of 2 inches of natural hair growth. Had the stylist not been so hesitant I'm sure I could have walked out of the salon with my curls. The picture I showed the stylist was not an exact style but an example of how short I was ok with going. As such, I reiterate, my expectations were not high at all. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😊
Great point! I went to a "high end" salon to come out with a mop. Though I edited the vlog to be humorous, it was a very upsetting and expensive ordeal
@@HelenKerins Clearly your expectations weren't too high if you were able to go home and do it better yourself. The stylist saying let's retain some length was silly, why would you want to retain lengths of straight hair if you're doing a curly look? Its going to look bad. I could understand if you were hesitant to go so short but you weren't.
They don’t know more than you know about your hair. Why didn’t you say something to the stylist? Anyway hind sight is 20/20. Your hair will grow out. We all mess up.
I did mention to the stylist that I wanted length but was willing to cut as much as possible to unleash my curls (hence showing her a picture if a young lady with short curly hair).
Did they end up giving you your money back? 🤔 I mean you kinda tagged them in this video so I feel like they definitely watched it and should have called you to for a refund. They should not have left you looking like that girl 😔
No refund here 😒 its all good. I honestly should've walked back in and gotten some type of reprieve but doctor's appointments and two toddlers were waiting so I had to suck it up. Oh well thanks for looking out for another sis 🤗🤗🤗🤗
You went in for a certain look and left with that....😂😂😂 it looked better after you cut it tho ikyfl (I know you fucking lying)is also a figure of speech
Yeah had i not had the doctors appt right after I would have gone in and asked for a re cut. I was in shock that I walked out that way. Lesson learned! Thanks for watching!!
Hahaha! That part where you’re eating crackers in the car. No it didn’t look good, at all. Too bad the hairdresser didn’t chop off more and too bad you didn’t say anything. It could have looked better I suppose. Oh well 🤷🏽♀️
I'm sorry.SORRY PEOPLE ACT LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING...EVERYONE KNOWS STYLIST OR NOT...CUT LESS....BECAUSE U CAN FIX IT...BUT NOT WEN U CUT ALOT..N MAKE A MESS.
Girl why the hell did you not just speak up and ask her to chop it off then? Why would you leave the salon like that without saying anything? Your hair was too damaged it was not going to look the way it did in the pic anyways. Your expectations were way too high you should have spoken up bottomline.
Girl you right!! I should have been more vocal! It was my first time at a "high end " salon and didn't want to seem pushy. Lesson learned! As pernjthe pic, yeah I was aware of my heat damage and new I wouldn't get an exact replica of the picture but I figured the stylist would get the idea that I wasn't afraid to chop off the hair oh well lesson learned indeed 😁
Did you go back to the salon and ask them to adjust it? I think before we got on a social media and bash people we should be more compassionate and talk to the businesses. We live in a yelp culture where people need to share this distain publicly instead of giving people a chance to fix things and not hurt their business. Speak up next time.
My love if you saw the full video you would know that I in no way shape or form bashed the salon or stylist. I shared an experience. As per going back in, I remember that day vividly and was caught between a rock and a hard space with regard to certain scheduled events. As such, going back in and allowing them to fix the cut was not feasible. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Saying you don’t like something is not bashing it. You just don’t like it. If I tell you to cut off all my hair down to the curls that means cut off all my hair it’s not rocket science. And I give a stylist one time. If you gave me a bad experience I will not come back. What she gave her is pathetic.
The hair salon didn’t fail you. You had unrealistic expectations with 2 inches of natural hair growth. You stated the obvious several times in your video about your hair and you still went and with a picture of a woman with 4 inches of natural hair growth and expected the same cut.
No love you are incorrect. I showed the picture as an example of my willingness to cut the majority of my hair. I in no way shape or form expected the "same" look as the picture. The stylist went forward with providing a haircut that I obviously had no curly length for. The correct approach on behalf of the stylist should have been to encourage a big chop. The approach on my end should have been to speak up more throughout the process (a learned lesson that i will be sure to implement in the future) So with that said Please girl just stop! Go on about your day
Did you watch the video in its entirety? Did you catch the part about me showing her the picture and stating that I was willing to do whatever? Probably not since your comment tried coming for me. At the end of the day the stylist should have said "you're asking for a rezo cut but you have no curls to create this type of cut". I guess both of us should have been more vocal. Girl bye 👋
I know that tip hurt!!! I think the stylist did know how to cut, as I've seen her work before, I just think she didnt have the nerve to truly say and do what my hair actually needed. Oh well lesson learned! Thanks for watching!!
Seems like the cut didn't work because of heat damage and wasn't their fault...

Yasss, girlll!!! Cutting it yourself is SO freeing!!! Gave myself a big chop a couple of months ago and I was goin for the the EXACT picture you showed the hairstylist!! Save your money and cut it yourself from now on. Turned out beautiful! 💕
Yassss gurl yassssssssss! I loved chopping my hair! Freeing indeed!! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😁🤗😁
My first big chop (not in the curly hair club) was because of your dope hair.
OMG YASSSSSS!!! I used to love those spikey pixie cuts!!! They are the best!!!
Your hair looks much better now since you originally filmed this video.
Thanks for noticing! That curls are truly popping now!!
Ugh that awesome release of when you started to cut your own hair, like I could imagine that it felt therapeutic as you started to see that you were fixing it!
Yassss!!!! It was therapeutic!!! Thanks for watching 🤗☺
YOU DID THAT!!! You did a way better job than the salon. That's hella cold they made you walk out like that! Thank you for putting this out there, your transparency is refreshing!!! Liked and subscribed... I'm also going to head over to the gram and follow you over there as well. 💛💛💛
Awwww sis you are too kind!!!! Thanks so much for the love!!! I gotta give you a follow too!!!
@@HelenKerins Hey, Sis! I couldn't find you on the gram! I typed your name. Did I type something incorrect? 💚
I'm helenkerins_ in IG. what's your handle?
Oh boy I’m thinking about going to Joe too! I have been to Curly Hair Alchemist, a little bit of a ride to NY.
Would you have been mad if she cut off all the dead hair and then you had a pixie or something? I feel like 6 weeks of growth is not enough to get you a style like the one you pictured. Your ask was outside of your range IMO
You could stand to cut more even now as of this video so how was she supposed to make you look like that photo
@@HelenKerins ugh you're so right. I really wanna call them and get your money back so badly 🤣
I love that you worked it out girl.
Thanks so much!! Yeah couldn't allow my crown to look like a mop 😂
Leaf blower 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 girl thanks for the love and for watching!!!!
Wow I would have been livid. You should have went back in and asked them to just chop it off for all of that money you paid. But it looks great at the end of the video.
Yeah i was livid!!! I def should've spoken up. Lesson definitely learned!! Thanks for the love and for watching!!
You did a much better cut on yourself then the stylist did.
Awww thanks so much!!!!
Yeah there was definitely a lack of communication from both of us but more so from the stylist. Oh well lesson learned! Thanks for watching!! 🤗😁🤗
Idk. I'm not a stylist.... I am a natural hair/curly girl so I understand perhaps the limits due to the heat damage but idk I anticipated a different result especially because you said you were willing to get whatever cut necessary to get your curls back...again idk. I would have did the exact thing you did!
Thanks so much for watching!!! I appreciate you my curly sister!!!
Omg 😱.. I would have been like I’m not walking out like this. Keep chopping please.. more more more..
I know! I should have spoken up! I was in such shock and had a doctors Appointment right after that i just sucked it up and left. Never again!!
Oh wow!!! You and me are so alike! I watch tons of videos and learn how to do my own curly cuts. Thanks for watching and sharing your story!!
You were ready for the cut...but your hair wasn't...Your hair was still processing.😂😂😂
Child please 🤣
@@HelenKerins 😂😂😂
@@HelenKerins LOLLLL!!! Chill out, sis...It should have grown out by now. It really didn't look that bad. I thought it made you look....whimsical. Fairy-like.
The stylist was probably inexperienced and didn’t feel comfortable doing the big chop. You did an amazing job tho!! Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks so much for watching! This was definitely a lesson learned for me 😁
The only person worth going to at that Salon is the owner.
Seems like you're right! Thanks for watching!!
You had to tell her chop it all, because sometimes there are girls that are obssesed with lenght, and maybe she tought you didn't want to chop your hair.
Yeah a definite lesson learned. Thanks so much for watching!!
Why not just curl it with an iron or put rollers in it at night? You can fake curls until the hair grows out.. girl..
😂😂😂😂 I love it!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
DIY all the way! Late to the party but you did a great job.
So glad ya made it to the party 😁😁😁 thanks for the love and thanks for watching!!
I can do your hair when I'm in NY. ;)
Let's do it!!!!!! Do I smell a collab vlog!?!?!?!?! 😆😉😆😉😆
LadyJessG when are you in NYC? I need my hair done too.
"i respect the stylist"Right i love this from clients
I notice a hint of sarcasm in your tone…(not like I really care though 😜
@10:50 dang, that stylist did you dirty 😳. I can't believe she let you walk out like that much less pay for it.
For real! Oh well lesson learned. Thanks for watching!!
The stylist should of been honest on how it would look because I can see she gave you the rezo cut but it just doesn’t look good because of the heat damage. If she would of cut more it would of been a different hair cut but it would of worked better. The only way the rezo cut might of worked is if she would of done a rod set after.
Ahhhhhh true a rod set!! Yeah the stylist wasn't as vocal as she needed to be. Oh well lesson learned! Thanks for watching 🤗😁
Kudos to u cutting it n reactivating ur beautiful curls
Thanks so much for the love!!
And furthermore I just saw that it's the rezo cut....girlll I saw another girl get her cut n how the founder?I'm assuming wined her n dined her n then said 300?or 350.
I was like NOPE.my aunt cut my hair for 1yr too long n ALWAYS GAVE ME BOY CUTS.
LONG STORY SHORT AFTER BARBERS GAVE ME LAME STORIES...3 OUT OF 3.I SAID SELF ENOUGH IS ENOUGH GOD STEPPED N AND SAID..QUIT COMPLAINING N DO SOMETHING.SO NOW I CUT MY OWN HAIR.AND IM PRAYING GOD IF THIS IS MY CAREER?MAKE A WAY.
GOD BLESS U AND KEEP ON SINGING TO THE LORD....PRAISE HIM ALL THE WAY TO YOUR BREAKTHROUGHS.OUR GOD IS AWESOME AND MANY TIMES WE MUST PRAISE HIM IN THE HALLWAY.
They should’ve done a straw set after
Wow I never thought of that. I probably would have looked much better! Thanks for watching!
Wow, that looks bad. I would not have paid anything for that mess! Love what you did, though. Happy New Year!
Hahaha it was a hot mess hahahhaa!! Thanks for watching and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Love ur laugh❤
Yassssssssss 😜😆😜😆
Your hair wasn’t ready for that cut and she should have told you so. Your hair was damaged. I’m impulsive too so I get it. I usually have major regrets later. Did you tell the stylist that you were okay with a big chop?
Yup I had communicated that to the stylist but came out with a raggedy mop lol!! In hindsight I should have continued to coach her through the cut but I thought she was the hair professional and knew best. Never again.
I want to do your brows! You're so georgeous.
Thanks so much! I already got the brows done but I appreciate the offer 😁🤗😁
They did failed you girl!!!!!!!! They could’ve said you have too much hair damage and give you a couple months to come back!!!! Unacceptable let’s go get your money back! Meet me there!
Haha yassssss girl let's get my money back!! Thanks for watching!!
I am from jersey yasssssss! I will def check out your friend! Thanks for the heads up!!
YIKES!
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
My thoughts exactly! Oh well lesson learned! Thanks for watching!
@@leftistpoetic You hit the nail on the head! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts :-)
That must of been like a student or something who cut your hair 😱
Yeah it was a bad haircut!
Thanks for the clarification 😂😜
No problem
omg hell no I would ask someone else to fix it the right way
Yeah had i not had the doctors appt right after I would have gone in and asked for a re cut.
Oh well 🤷🏽♀️
Yasssssss dem crackers 🤣🤣🤣 yeah it was definitely a learning experience. I will be more vocal from now on! Thanks for watching!! 😁🤗😁
Go on about your day
Krazy Kerins sending you love and positive vibes for speedy curl growth and recovery. All good things take time. Peace
Thank you for the love. The hair has grown and has recovered
Ikyfl
What do you think I'm lying about?
I think that your hair was so damage that there was not any miracle possible
There was only damage in the front. I wasn't asking for a miracle. I was asking for a haircut.
Honestly it's more your fault for not speaking up.
Girl bye 👋
Unfortunately the stylist didn't know how to cut your hair properly....and u tipped...gurrrlll
I know that tip hurt!!! I think the stylist did know how to cut, as I've seen her work before, I just think she didnt have the nerve to truly say and do what my hair actually needed. Oh well lesson learned! Thanks for watching!!
