As we continue enjoy this Florida Winter Camping season it’s time to head to Central Florida away from the beaches and crowds. We camped here in our van, a Winnebago Travato 59K. If you’ve never tried Florida camping then we think booking a site in one of the many Florida State Parks is the way to go. There are a lot of Florida campgrounds to choose from but we love the seclusion and natural settings and Florida hiking. All these make a camping trip perfect for us. For this leg of our winter camping adventure we chose O’Leno State Park, camping in both the Dogwood and Magnolia loops. We found this campground to be some of the best camping, if not the best, in central Florida. The hike to the river rise is long but flat and the experience of watching a river disappear under ground and then hiking 3 miles to see it reappear is amazing. Watching the Santa Fe River disappear and then reappear will leave you smiling.
BE SURE TO WATCH UNTIL THE END OF THE VIDEO FOR OUR FULL REVIEW OF THE CAMPGROUND
I love O'Leno springs. Family went there first time in 1980. They had a high dive back then. I had a Deere walk in the screen room and eat off my plate lol. Mom freaked out I was 10 and thought that was the best. Every time we go back we look forward to seeing them. Our 1999 trip my son 7yrs old brought a little Deere in my folk's motorhome before they woke up and my mother.... We laughed for days. Dad passed in 2005 and O'Leno was his favorite park. Great memories there. Thank You for your Video. God Bless
Thank you so much for sharing your great memories. It’s a wonderful place that also has a special place in our hears. We appreciate your comment.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle did you see any Deere ?
Every time I see your videos... I GET TIRED! TWELVE MILES?!?!?!?
We're lucky to go once around the mall... and that's air conditioned!
I think I'd have to stay with Maggie in the RV! 😆
You're both beautiful people... keep on hiking'!!
Be seeing you!
I really don’t know what we were thinking going on a 12 mile hike. It was a challenge for sure. Thanks for watching.
I hate confrontation but when I’m trying to sleep I get to be a grumpy old lady! My wife takes care of the confrontational stuff most of the time! I would have made her call the ranger! Quiet time is just that QUIET time! On Golden Pond is one of my all time favorites! Lynn “calling” the birds...😂😂
I also hate confrontation, so Owen is the one that has to do that kind of thing. But I didn’t even want him to call the ranger. We had walked so far I really wanted those birds to land in front of us so it could be epic. We appreciate you watching and commenting.
This on our bucket list!!! Thank you so much for sharing your travels! I really enjoy and value your insight!
It’s a great place. I would recommend the newer campground at the end of the park if you can get in. The sites are more level and more spread out. Thanks for watching.
So beautiful, thank you both. 🥰👍🏻
Your videos are good for the soul.
What a wonderful thing to hear. Thank you so much.
Great video. We now have a new nickname for Owen, Grumpy Old Man or Gomer for short. Btw, I call a knife a Ka- nife also.
It's been raining like a bugger here in N. Alabama Our first 2 nights of camping in our new "K" have been about 20 feet from our front door. Been great with no hook ups and love the Truma for heat. Those 3 a.m. doggie pee breaks takes some getting used to. Ya'll really do inspire us if it ever quits raining. Thanks!
I like Owen’s new nickname. It’s good to hear you are enjoying your K, even if it’s in the driveway. Ka-nife, I’m not sure about you two. We appreciate you following along.
Have stayed at oleno many times. I actually saw a small bear about 6 pm last summer on the dogwood side. My dog barked and it lumbered off the dirt road to the woods. I want to go back one day but we have settled for 1 year at a campground.
We loved O’leno, I think its about time we go back. Thanks for the reminder.
I agree with you! We should be considerate. I consider myself ultra friendly a d happy go lucky but I draw the line at sleep time. I’d of called the ranger too or went over there and asked them to please be quiet.
We hate being those people to call the ranger but we put up until late and their fire ring was so close to our window if it had been on the other side of the site it may not have been a problem.
Owen and Lynn - Just wanted to let you know that Mary Kay and I both watch your videos together every week. We love your togetherness, your mutual purpose as a couple, and your enjoyment of this RV lifestyle you have embraced. Thanks for not editing this one down to a shorter timeline, as I'm sure you were tempted to do. Each segment was important and affirming. We appreciate your work! Blessings, Mark
Mark Pierce Amen! I’m so glad we found this channel! (Jane O.)
Thank you so much for saying that about editing down the video. We were worried because it was so long, and we did go through a process to trim it down to make is shorter. But this is what we ended up with... it means a lot that you understand that we are trying to tell a story. We so appreciate your comment and thanks for watching.
We are glad you found us too. Thanks for watching.
That river is cool! Many a time we’ve had only beans in our lives too👍🏻 that and cornbread and some chow chow on top was some good 🍽 eating. We still do it cause it’s just good. We think similarly about getting out in nature and looking for the less travelled locations. Frugal can still be an awesome experience 👍🏻
Beans, cornbread and chow chow for dinner tonight. :-). It's already in the crockpot. :-)
Another great vlog! 12 miles is a serious hike for seniors! You two are amazing. Look forward to your future adventures!
We seriously felt those 12 miles when we got back. Sometimes we just need to push ourselves. Thanks for watching.
I know what you mean about staying in the State Parks. I am in Florida and during the summer I do what you all are doing. All the snowbirds are gone so I can stay in one spot for 14 days. Plus I get 50% off. It is cheaper than my electric bill at my home. Tomorrow I am going to Deep Creek Preserve in Arcadia. Boondocking. It's small but I can do the trails there. I don't like moving camp so much since it is only me and I am in an astro van so I camp in the 6 sided clam. I love those things! Myakka is my favorite State park. I take my chair up the tower, sit at night and watch the stars. (I haven't been caught yet, I am glad you didn't see me...lol) Thank again for this series I am loving it. And thanks for the tip on a new chanel heading to FL.
It sounds like you have things figured out. We went to Myakka last year and loved it there, it sounds like a great experience sitting on the tower watching the stars, we will have to remember that for next them. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Worth the $25!!! You are right about the noise!
Thanks for your comment. I really hated to interfere with people having fun but... We appreciate you watching.
Love state parks making our plans for wintering in Florida next winter. This park is one of our stops.
This park is always on our list when we visit Florida. Have fun planing your winter trip.
Grumpier Old Men😊
We taking notes on these Florida spots. Love how we feel like we are right a long with you when we watch your vids. Great story telling too. Of course you preferred Magnolia Loop! Magnolia hmmm Maggie 🤔
We are so glad we are showing you places that you might like to go. I liked the Dogwood campground because is was so rustic but the Magnolia campground was much more modernized. We appreciate you watching.
Very cool place to camp. Wonderful meeting new people too. Stay safe out there guys. Cheers!!!
We appreciate you following along and always commenting. We agree the best part of traveling is the people you meet.
I'm really loving this series!! You've hit on the right mix of 'how to van life' + things to do around you + the likes/dislikes at the end!! Thank you for all the work to put these together!
You are so welcome and thank you for letting us know what you like about this series, it means a lot.
On Golden Pond of course! One of my favorite movies. Thanks for sharing your hike and the beautiful scenery. I also want to thank Owen for the leveling tip and the Truma app. I downloaded it and it works great! Have fun and travel safe. Thanks for taking us along!
You are so welcome and we are glad you are able to use Owen’s tip. On Golden Pond is also one of our favorites. Thanks so much for watching.
Very timely, that's where we're headed to when we leave Blue Spring State Park.
I hope you enjoy the park as much as we did. Safe travels.
Thanks, again, for another great video. Though I binge watched your epic Alaska adventure, the Florida trip has opened my eyes, too!
That is really good to hear. There are amazing things to see and experience everywhere you go. Thanks for watching!
You two make the best videos! Glad I found this channel.
You'll be hooked just like me. Or you will be. Welcome abord.
We are really glad you found us and thank you for your kind words.
Your production quality improves each video. I love in N Florida and have enjoyed your presentation of my backyard. Remember, ticks and red bugs are still active. Protect yourself.
Thank you for your kind words and for the reminder to watch for insects. We appreciate you watching and commenting.
I really enjoyed your video! O'Leno is such a beautiful place to camp and so many wonderful trails. You did the right thing by calling the ranger on the noisy neighbors.
Magnolia loop is the newer part of the park, the sites are bigger and flatter there, Dogwood loop is a little rougher. I'm glad you were able to get a better site. I'm going camping there tomorrow with my little dog. Safe travels!🌲🌲🌲
We hope you are having a great time at O’Leno and we appreciate you watching this video. Thanks for your comment.
Awesome hike. Glad you get to meet up with subscribers :). Safe Travels! I would not be a fan of that suspension bridge 🙃
Jim and Owen are so alike. However, the Ferris wheel is much worse than the bridge. We appreciate you following along.
@vantrekking Enjoying your videos! Are your Ray-Bans the Wayfarer II Classic? Love them!
Yes, Lynn’s are Ray-Bans Wayfarer, I love them too. Thanks for watching.
Great Video!!! Keep up the great work all 3 of you. I enjoy watching your new videos...
We appreciate you watching and the nice comment.
Like the comments below “On Golden Pond “ . Enjoyed another one of your great adventure !
When we have friends over we get loud too .That’s because we can’t hear very good, lol .
Keep going Owen , Lynn, of course you to Maggie to another adventure!!
On Golden Pond is correct, one of our favorites. Some people get grumpy when they can’t get there beauty sleep. Thanks for watching!
Hey Friends! So glad to see you again. I’m glad you listened to Maggie. I agree with you on paying for SPs. I am so grateful for State Parks each time we camp. Do y’all have electric bikes or regular bikes? I love your videos. Thanks for all the time & effort you guys put into them. Great info as always. Happy travels! I hope we get to see you on day. (Jane & Mike) 😊🏕❤️
You are so welcome and thank you for watching and leaving us such kind words. We have regular bike, that are very old. Owen really wants to get electric bikes, we are going to seriously look at them when we get home. The people who have them love them. Hope to see you on the road too.
VAN TREKKING lifestyle Thanks for the reply. What type are you looking at? (250,500,750) I’ve been debating about the 500. Where are y’all originally from? (We live in SC, not too far from Charlotte, NC.) Have a great day! (Jane O.)😊❤️🙏🏻
Sorry... Walter is from On Golden Pond. One of the best movies ever. Thanks for a great day sharing it with us...
On Golden Pond is one of favorites for sure. We appreciate you watching and commenting.
Love all your videos!! We have never been campers but we love to travel so we are toying with the idea of getting an RV (small) hubby has 15 months to retirement:-) Geezers you 2 are NOT!!
Congratulations on your retirement. We both feel like traveling with an RV is the way to go. If you are considering it you should rent one and see if it meets your expectations. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I agree they should have been more considerate, but just for your comfort, maybe try earplugs. They work for me on a noisy plane, so I always keep a couple pairs in our van just in case.
That is a great idea. Thanks!
On Golden Pond - one of those movies you can sit and watch over and over.
We have watched that movie many times. I thing we’ll have to find it again when we get home.
Enjoyed watching your trip here. Audio was very low.
We will work on the audio, thanks for pointing that out and for watching. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Okay, Stella, our 10 year old Beagle, had to look around the room for Maggie's squeaker toy, LOL. We had to sign as a part of our contract with the owner that we would be friendly, but not friends with anyone in the park. That way at 11:15 PM would put on our grumpy face and shut down the parties. After five years of doing that we are ready to head up the trail for a few more adventures before Stella is too old to enjoy trail walking with us.
I’m sure it’s not any fun to have to shut down parties. I’m sure most people don’t mean any harm... they are just having a good time. But, they do need to be considerate, it’s a fine line. Maggie is getting to the point that we only take her on short walks and we always check the temperature. It’s sad to see them get old. Thanks for watching and sharing your comments.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle I do not think the party folks are considerate of others or they would never be a target. In March right before folks head back home is when we have all of the mediation to do between bored snowbirds that want to pick fights with each other. We almost have an RV picked out, not a class B unfortunately, but a shorter class C that will tow a jeep, a good compromise between what Him and Her wants, LOL.
I'm not a Florida person but this was fun
It was a lot of fun. I feel going to the Florida State Park is a totally different experience than what I imagined Florida to be. Thanks for watching.
On Golden Pond
You are correct. That is one of our favorites.
Walter was, of course, according to Henry Fonda, that old "SOB" from On Golden Pond.
You are right! Owen is Lynn’s Old Poop too!
also - do you know the brand name of the portable chair you were sitting in? I've never seen one that also rocks.
The chairs are GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker Mesh Chair (Pewter Gray). They are on our Amazon page if you are interested, www.amazon.com/shop/VanTrekkingLifestyle. I love these chairs because of the lower back support the rocking part is a bonus. They are a little big to carry in a van, but to me they are well worth it.
I as a disabled veteran get in state parks in Florida for free and just got my Access pass for theNational parks for free or 50% off.
You deserve everything you can get, we are glad they make this available for you. Thank you for your service.
I just found your channel! May I ask a question - what kind of hiking shoes do y'all wear?
So glad you found us. In this video I (Lynn) was wearing Merrell’s and Owen was wearing croc’s. Right now he is wearing Altra hiking shoes and if I’m hiking I’ll either wear Danner’s or my waterproof Rocky’s. However, for walking around I really like Brooks tennis shoes. I hope this helps.
I just read an article about how smart dogs are and one of the points of interest is a dog's willingness and ability to sense danger. A smart master is one who pays attention to their dog who has exceptionally keen sensory. FL does have bear and wild cats, both are a sneaky and a real danger. Few people appreciate or know that our nation is riddled with underground rivers. Wells for drinking water is tapped into these deep waters.
We had never experienced Maggie not wanted to continue a walk, she definitely sensed something, it was really strange. It always amazes us how smart she really is about a lot of thing. We know her well enough to listen to her. We are always amazed and appreciate the gems we find like the underground rivers, that is best part of traveling. Thanks for your comment.
Is it from the movie... gone fishing with Joe Peschi n Danny Glover?
The movie was On Golden Pond, one of our favorites. Thanks so much for watching.
I'm in the market for a camera. What kind of camera were you using to film the turtles beside the river?
A camera we don't have any longer. It was a Canon SX740. Great camera with awesome zoom as you saw. But it has one flaw. The screen is not visible when you're wearing polarized sunglasses. So it didn't make the cut. Now we have just our Sony a6400, a DJI Osmo Pocket and our two iPhone 11 Pro's. 90% of our footage now is shot with the iPhones.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle I've been looking at the Sony a6100.
Wow! We just passed 5,000 subscribers! WOW!!! Thank you each and every one. BTW we know the volume at the beginning of this one is a little low. We found that out last night but with zero cell coverage we could not repair it and get it uploaded. Sorry. Thanks to each of you who watch. We will double check things like that better from now on. We sure appreciate each of you that ride with us on this journey.
VAN TREKKING lifestyle We learn as we go along! You guys just keep improving all the time! I was impressed with your 12 mile hike at Oleno SP. I was a little worried the dark was going to beat you back to the campsite. Glad you won! (Jane)😊
That seems like a long time ago! Thanks to all of our subscribers... both old and new!
It was worth me turning my speakers up. We LOVED Your Video. We have Great Memories There. Thank You and God Bless
My dog went a little nuts when he heard Maggie’s squeaky toy.
Jean Joo My dog did too! 😆
Haha! That is so funny but cool to hear! You know Maggie never seems to pay attention to anything much at all on the TV. Every now and then she’ll hear or see something though. We know others who say their dog goes crazy when they hear Maggie. Wish there was a way for us to let Maggie know that!
Gotta fix the audio! Way too low for me 😬
So sorry, we will make sure the audio it better in the future. We do appreciate you watching and letting us know about the audio.
John says Grumpy Old Men. I say On Golden Pond. The fish called Walter answer. Which if us is right? He's a Grumpy old man so he might know best!! JkandtheRV.com
You were correct it was “On Golden Pond”. I checked out your blog... enjoyed the Cold Winter time lapse. Good luck with he down sizing.
If the rule was 11:00 pm and you didn't do anything for an entire hour? I'd say you were very patient above and beyond, to tell you the truth. Call me grumpy too!
Sometimes we all get grumpy when we’ve had enough and we had enough. We appreciate you watching and commenting.
You are not a grouch. Those people had time to wrap it up and wind down and they didn’t. What good are rules if people are allowed to just ignore them. You have rights as well.
Thank for seeing Owen’s side of the story. He’s pretty tolerant up to a point... We appreciate you watching.
i would have called rangers!!!!! I camp to GET AWAY FROM NOISE AND IDIOTS!!!!!!!! I would have let my dog bark till they shut up!!!! Oleno is 30 minutes from my house
If O’leno is 30 minutes from your house I’m sure you go there a lot. We truly love that place. It has so much to offer. Thanks for watching.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle unfortunately ive only been there 3 times..never have been able to hike or camp...one day when im on my own i will go alot of places
I would not go in state parks with bears or coyotes
Sometimes it’s hard to know until you get there.
im not tring to be mean..im wearing earphones..can barely hear you some i cant here...sorry
Thanks for letting us know and we are so sorry for the inconvenience. We didn’t realize the video had a problem until after it was released and at that time we did not have cell service to release it. We will do better in the future.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle still enjoyed watching and seeing where you were
