It really is just outstanding, most versions i hear of it try to make it sound more bouncy or goofy in various ways, taking a lot of the feel of the original out of it; this one manages to REALLY dig its heels into the sonic feel the og has while intensifying the feel up to 10!

I can't say for sure, but in some cases, I do believe Howard Drossin did make his own sounds in some of the games he made music for. I do believe you could make something in GEMS that could sound exactly like what we're hearing here. Would it be easy? Absolutely not, but it could be possible as long as you know your way around an FM synth. Also, something I didn't know until recently is that GEMS does also allow access to the YM2612's channel 3 "special mode" which allows for free tuning of the four operators. I don't know if anyone made use of that, but it is there apparently

Toxic Caves always had a killer groove, but the way you syncopate the lead synths with the groove just punches the song up to an entirely different level. This one never left my collection and I never tried to get rid of it. When I finally sold my Nomad I included Sonic Spinball and other gems to sweetin' the deal and to my surprise the buyer was stoked to get a good condition Sonic Spinball with manual.

I've said this before and I'll say it once again, GEMS is easily capable of music as impressive as even the better half of what you have in Japanese MD games. It's just that nobody who was using GEMS actually knew about what it was capable of.

I love Howard Drossin's compositions, and this as well as your Comix Zone remix shows how much better his songs could have sounded if they weren't held back by GEMS.

You took a pretty decent track and made it amazing. The chord progression you added to one of the later sections (1:17) just elevates the composition in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It’s subtle but highly effective!
