    This is brilliant. Finally someone said it - stop overeating. I do little exercise and I eat 2x a day. I do not eating piles of meat but smaller amounts. I have been losing weight consistently and its been amazing. As well, the diabetes slowly calming down. My blood sugars can still reach rather high and I would be considered pre-diabetic as opposed to full on diabetic on pills and insulin. The medications are all gone and I am doing amazing.

      We have to listen to all the experts on keto/carnivore and try to figure out which approach is better suited for our body type. We're all different. We have to become our own expert for what works for us. They are all great don't get me wrong. It's just a matter of figuring out what works best for our body.

    Great points, and thank you for showing my account this time!
    It’s true, people who are not 6’5” lifters with a very active lifestyle should not emulate the portion sizes and macro nutrition levels that I consume. I state this often.
    And yes, very important that people don’t eat as much as they can, as that will lead to weight gain. There was a lot of discussion on this topic on my social media lately where people disagreed with me as they stated calories don’t matter, and referenced how they increased calories on keto/carnivore and lost weight. I made the same points as you about metabolic and hormonal changes (input affecting output).

    Dr Boz. Perfect brilliant. Four years on Keto. Definitely 100% facts. First two months I ate protein like crazy because honestly I was craving carbs and when I got cravings I'd feed it eggs and steak. But after a while you hit this place and you might think, "I'm getting bored doing keto," NO!!.....you're not getting bored your body is getting fat adapted and wants to burn those fat stores around your waist. That is where intermittent fasting comes in and you eat only when hungry. Trust me nothing tastes better then a ribeye with cauliflower rice after a good 16 hour fast. Not boing just you're eating to live and thrive not for entertainment.

    i've been a carnivore for six months now and it's been fabulous and it's broken down my auto immune incredibly. I feel better than I ever have but I don't stuff myself in over eight. I'll probably eat a steak a day some yogurt lots of water maybe some liver slices/pate best that I've ever been on and I don't call it a diet. It's a change of life because of what it's done for me. I've lost 57 pounds and will continue. I just had major surgery on my knee so it's taking a little while, but not gained any water gain, of course but that fluctuates up and down and it goes right back to the same way I could never do it before because I was on keto and had too many of the fake keto food which was not real food. It didn't stop my craving for sweets. I'm not ever hungry, my blood pressure is great so there's my take on this. And I haven't found a doctor yet who believes in it that we can actually have an appointment with mostly they're all programmed to think keto and carnivores bad. Just a few thoughts.

Mentally easy to stick with and physically better in general because I eat at about 4pm (pretty hungry by then since it’s 1st meal of day) so have time for metabolism to start to work before I go to bed. I think its the opposite. The problem with most people run into with Keto/carnivore diets is they consume too much fat not protein. Keto is not supposed to be about high fat. It’s supposed to be about cutting carbs. At least 30% of our calories should be protein.

    • @No_Frills_Carnivore
      @No_Frills_Carnivore 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Protein is for rebuilding and maintenance. Most regular people don't need to eat a ton of it - especially if they're not exercising for competitions or goals. And fat is essential for life too with its vitamins and minerals.. it is most nourishing for us and food for our brains so we shouldn't skimp on fat ever - you can't overeat fat either.. you'd vomit! And bodyfat is fuel.

    • @y00t00b3r
      @y00t00b3r 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stephens9462 In my view, you have it utterly backwards. I've been keto for a decade. The first six months was difficult because I was getting too much protein and not enough fat. Once I limited my protein to a single modest portion per day, I had zero problems entering a state of ketosis. Ketosis = fat adaptation.
      By the way, you contradict yourself with your last sentence. "At least 30% of our calories should be protein". This means that up to 70% of calories would come from fat, depending on how much carbohydrate is restricted. Since the entire point of keto is restricting (if not eliminating) all non-fiber carbs, at least 60% of calories would be coming from fat. That has the amount of fat being *double* the amount of protein. This contradicts the thesis you started out with.
      I have since switched to carnivore, with amazing results. My diet is similar to what is pictured in that post, except that it's not that much, and I eliminate the egg whites, and add at least 1/2 stick of butter, if not more.

    • @arisarumvulgare4183
      @arisarumvulgare4183 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@y00t00b3rHey! I have some questions, out of curiosity. How much protein do you eat per day? There are opinions out there that we should not consume less than 1g of protein per 1lbs of our (desired)/weight. Do you live by that, or limit proteins even more? Do you weightlift by any chance? Do you do maintenance or strive for caloric deficit?

    • @y00t00b3r
      @y00t00b3r 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right now, since I have switched to carnivore, have no idea. I eat 10 ounces of ribeye, plus some bacon and 4 egg yolks. So that's 300+ grams of protein. So I'm not currently limiting protein like I used to. But I make sure that I'm eating enough fat and butter, which automatically satisfies the appetite and keeps my fat to protein ratio about where I want it.
      I do not lift weights much. I ride my bike a lot, up mountain roads at high altitude.
      When I was keto, I limited my protein to 100g. By the way, in my view the rule of thumb is closer to 1 gram per kilo, not one gram per pound.
      I do not strive for caloric deficit; I do not count calories at all. I would have no idea at all whether or not I'm anywhere near a caloric deficit.
      I am exceeding the amount of protein that I "should" be eating. I have been amazed that the rules are quite different when you go full carnivore. I dismissed carnivore for a decade, because keto was working just fine, and eating this much protein seemed ridiculous.

      But my main mistake when started keto 7 years ago were not paying attention to hidden carbs and still eating 5+ times per day. When I switched to eating max 2 times per day and stopped to drink milk which has daily max level of carbs in just half litre, ... all started to move fast. For that reason carnivore is the best, lowest carbs, top satiating effect. And do not forget to add salt which is most healthy. Love dr. Boz videos, still my main source for everything is dr. Try to eat 90 grams of protein per day❤….I weigh 100 pounds, I have gained about 4 pounds on Keto…however I do cheat with Gluten free biscuits that are mostly made of grass fed butter. Stay away from wheat products and you might gain weight. I only eat Avocado…not a bunch of weird vegetables because I have IBS. Hope this helps. I only fast during sleeping hours so much fast might be 14 to 15 hours? That is the time from my last meal in the evening to my late breakfast….

    I actually ate A LOT of calories from low carb foods for a year and lost 40 lbs. Calories do not matter IF your insulin is low. Most people underestimate how much carbs they are eating or they eat weird low carb breads, etc. and wonder why their weight loss is stalling. For the average overweight person, keep your carbs below 50 grams/day. Watch it like a hawk; when in doubt assume you ate more not less carbs. If your weight loss is stalling, switch to only meat, eggs, butter for a while. I do not recommend cutting calories. You should eat till you are naturally full. If low carb is not working for you at all, I would try high carb with low unsaturated fat (especially low polyunsaturated fats) and high saturated fat (butter and coconut oil). That is what I am currently doing and I have lost a pant size in 8 weeks. If you do low carb for a long time, and especially if you eat a lot of polyunsaturated oils, your thyroid activity will be very sluggish. Believe it or not, there are a lot of strategies that you can use to lose body fat and get healthy. Not everyone's metabolism is the same and you may need to tweak your diet. But in my opinion, cutting calories is not a good long term solution. The main reason obesity is now a problem, in my opinion, is because of all the polyunsaturated oils the average person consumes. If there is one recommendation I could give you to improve your health, cut out the polyunsaturated oils.

    What about gluconeogenesis? Protein and other carb precursors can be used to make glucose. True or false?

    • @y00t00b3r
      @y00t00b3r 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      true. But being strict carnivore allows one to eat far more protein than on plain 'ol keto, as long as you are getting enough fat. I was keto for a decade before I tried carnivore, and I've been amazed at the amount of protein I've been able to down. Ribeye steaks are delicious!
      when I was on regular keto, I had to restrict my protein to 100g per day. failing to do so resulted in gluconeogenesis, and kicked me out of ketosis.

  • @lawrencerogers576
    @lawrencerogers576 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have read your book, Dr B, and I note the amount of protein one is allowed. It seems minuscule and I gather I am meant to eat fat instead. That’s too much fat. I may be wrong. Ken Berry says the opposite ie eat as much meat until you are ‘stuffed’ as he put it.

    • @y00t00b3r
      @y00t00b3r 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      carnivore is a special form of keto. I switched to carnivore about 4 months ago, after being keto for about a decade. I have been amazed to see how much protein I can eat, as long as I get enough fat. (yay, butter!)
      but for keto, follow Dr. Boz advice. When I first started keto, I could not get into ketosis at all for the first six months, until I restricted my protein intake to a single, modest serving per day.
      I learned that there's no such thing as too much fat. You could theoretically eat too much fat, but you'll never actually want to consume that much.
      If you want to do carnivore, follow Dr. Berry's advice. If you want to do keto, follow Dr. Boz.
      Also: take note that Dr. Berry buys the fattiest cuts of beef he can get his hands on. I buy my own whole ribeye, and I cut it myself into steaks, because the goofballs at the grocery store trim off all the fat. (the best part!!)

  • @ShaneZettelmier
    @ShaneZettelmier 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I blew it when I started keto. I was trying to carefully measure out my protein and fat ratios. I’m going by what people were telling me I needed, and I was trying to minimize my food and it took me a good three months to become fully found adaptive to where I stopped having low blood sugar crashes, and getting weak and shaky when I wasn’t eating. It finally kicked in but I should’ve been eating more fat during that phase. I got through it but even a year and a half later after losing probably about 185 pounds I just stopped losing weight and tried restricting calories and changing what I was eating and substituting with different types of foods and went about six months, righteous bow surround within two or 3 pounds, no matter what I did including fasting.
    I found eventually that my problem was I needed more Protane and I wasn’t getting enough and I started adding a couple pieces of chicken into what I had been eating pretty much every single day and started losing weight again because I wasn’t getting enough protein and my body was trying to store the fat Longer to the white kind of fat for long-term storage instead of the brown fat that I could burn. It still seems odd to think that now in the last few months, I’ve lost another 40 pounds by adding food to what I was already eating. There are so many different factors involve that counting calories or counting carbs is all just part of a huge equation. I eat well over 2000 cal a day sometimes over 3000 up from probably around 2000 a day and it’s working somehow.
    At this point, I’m trying to learn these things to fine-tune it. I’m down 200 pounds but I’d still like to lose another 35 or 40 but it’s been hard even sticking to a very clean, very strict keto, diet and alternating into carnivore, I rarely have more than 25 net carbs a day I try to concentrate all of that on things to feed my gut biome. My metabolism still hasn’t kicked in fully, I don’t know how long that takes, but I’ve been eating very clean for a couple years now, about 27 months. I’m starting to watch more of these videos again because I’m trying to learn all these metabolic tweaks involved and fully understand the science behind all of this, but I think you have to rebuild your metabolism. You have to provide your body with the nutrients it needs in good bio available forms, but I see a lot of people on the carnivore and keto that still can’t lose weight for exactly this reason they just eat a ton of meat. I’m 6 foot and 235 pounds my mom is 5 foot four and probably 140 pounds and she eats about twice the meat I do every day And she eats pretty much no carbs most days and is almost pure carnivore, but she complains that she can’t lose weight even though she’s not eating carbs but won’t take the time to learn the stuff. I’ve explain to her that carbs aren’t what make you fat? It’s just triggering your insulin but you can’t eat a ton of calories on top of that and expect to lose weight. I think you need to figure out your protein requirements and start aiming to achieve those, we can’t just sit there and eat bacon all day and be skinny, unless were very physically active and for older people, and people like myself With herniated discs and two bad knees, I can’t just go out there and run and lift weights all day and there’s no way I could handle eating a meal that big, the biggest meal I probably had was four eggs and a piece of chicken with a little spinach thrown in. I don’t think I could even eat what’s on that plate now but I see people eat that for breakfast and then go eat another meal or two during the day And I never see how they do it but I can see it if you’re like Sean Baker or somebody who’s a bodybuilder and working out so much. I think it’s important that we build as much muscle mass as we can. We don’t have to be a bodybuilder, but we need a good amount of muscle mass And I exercise as much as I can but people get older and people who aren’t able to do that much physical activity. We have to learn to cut way back and limit the calories as well as the carbs and I think it’s a fine line and fasting is easy but when we’re eating, we’ve just got to keep tweaking that diet And make sure we’re eating the right kinds of proteins and feeding our gut biome and our metabolism and it takes a lot of research to get there. I could sit down and tell somebody in 10 minutes how to lose 80% of their weight but they get that last 20 or 30 pounds off is going to be really difficult for a lot of people And a lot of Keto people are out there telling us we can just eat bacon and steaks and hamburgers all day long and that’s just not the case. Someone with a good metabolism who’s gotten to be fat adaptive, and is very physically active, they can get away with that and they can put some carbs in there too, but She’s right unless you’re that person with a lot of muscle mass and continuing to stay very active, there’s no way you’re going to do it without putting on weight. That was always my problem with the Atkins diet saying carbs are bad. You can eat as much meat as you want, it just doesn’t work for everybody. And I tried pretty much all carnivore diet like that. I stayed at 350 pounds. I could not get below it eating the meat and I had to cut way back. I had to cut what I was normally eating in half. I do well with some of the vegetables and stick more to the Keto side. I’m not pure carnivore, but I’ll do carnivore for a few days at a time or maybe a week or two, but even with no carbs unless you’re out there working hard and burning that fat off, your body’s gonna store it and you’re gonna gain weight still

      Awesome dude! Way to go! I hear ya. I practice intermittent fasting. I started a little over 4 years ago along with a daily exercise routine. I didn’t have as much to lose as you but now I’m just trying to lose that last little bit around my waist and pecs and it’s a bitch. I started doing an extended fast from 5pm Friday to 9am Sunday. 38 weeks in a row so far. I’ve lost 5 pounds. That’s it.
      I would have thought my body would react to a weekly 40 hour fast, but it didn’t. Not really anyways. I’m not even sure if that’s why I lost the 5lbs. I didn’t lose any weight for 26 weeks, then I took on a project at home.
      3x a week I was getting 10-80lb bags of quikrete. So that required loading them in my van, unloading them 2 at a time into a wheelbarrow, wheeling them 150’ into the house, unloading them onto a pallet, then mixing them one at a time and pouring them into a slab. Did that for 6 weeks (18 slabs) and that’s when I lost the weight.
      That was on top off my normal workouts. That’s moving 800lbs 4.5x/3x a week for 6 weeks. I say 4.5 because I only count the wheelbarrow move as .5. My body is just stubborn as hell! 🤣
      I’m seeing results. They’re just really slow, but what do you expect at 57? I’m sure if I was younger I’d have lost all the fat in no time.
      I’m not losing any muscle mass or strength with IF and weekly fasts. That has to mean something.

    I told them to stop the overconsumption the animal protein altogether ( eat green veggies only) and stop drinking...
    first they thought that I am a weirdo ( but not having gout or any similar )...
    as their pains became so severely they decided to give my advise a try and voila after a short time their pains where gone...

      IMO, cut the fat not the protein. I think you should want 35% or so of your calories to be protein and have the fat be 55-60%. That should lean you out. As you get older your protein needs actually increase. I’m a 6’ guy and shoot for about 170 grams of protein a day. Add or subtract 5 grams for every inch you are taller or shorter than me to get a good target. Just keep the combined fat and carbs at or below that amount as well. This has fixed my stall.

      I switched from keto to carnivore about 4 months ago. It worked great, but I stalled a couple of months in. Added a half a stick of additional butter... Boom, back on track.
      When I first started keto a decade ago, I couldn't get into ketosis consistently for the first six months... until I restricted protein to about 100g a day.

    I started keto 3 weeks ago. My Garmin watch shows extremely high levels of stress, meaning my HRV is going crazy, even when I sleep. My body battery is not recharging. I feel exhausted. And I get moments of a plus rate over 100 when I’m not doing anything. I’m worried. Is this normal? What should I do?

      it is common to feel "off" when people first start keto. But a pulse rate of 100 sounds concerning.
      Have you tried measuring your pulse rate using your finger and a watch? Maybe the Garmin is being a goof, and causing you unnecessary stress.

      Best to ask for a CAC test to check arteries. They only get damaged w by sugar so if ur not damaging ur arteries w sugar they won't get clogged. There also a blood test to check the size & shape of the cholesterol particles. These are better indicators of risk than just cholesterol #'s

      Triglycerides are high because they're not metabolizing fast enough with the influx of food coming in buffering and loading up the system, even though you're metabolically in starvation mode which automatically jacks everything up to be able to process fats and proteins which are larger compounds for the same rate and energy needs carbs do easier because they're smaller.

      @azweinger 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @asherasator
      @asherasator 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@azweinger I can't tell you what to do because I don't now anything about you, but I recommend you speak with an MD or NP and have a professional guide you through it regardless if they're for keto/carnivore diets or not, because they can look at many other factors in your lab tests. What I do know is that high numbers in lab work with keto/carnivore diets seems to be common. It also depends on the diet too some are more fat based others are more meat based so there's slight differences and factors to consider metabolically. Just understand that these type of diets are starvation mode processes and require higher amounts of proteins and fats doing double duty because they're used as fuel/ATP and still have to be used for structural, biological and hormonal integrity.
      Fasting alone automatically raises LDL.
      The weight loss is the body eating itself to try and maintain, and then finds an equilibrium with the food coming in, so you should be in adaptation mode already if you're doing a keto diet. If you're doing a carnivore diet you're never really in true adaptation mode which focuses on fats because proteins are similar to carbs and in the next order of oxidation for ATP.

So far I feel stronger and I lost 10kg (22lbs) and I am going to become stronger than before, bought some weights and a month later some more and it looks like I might buy even more, yes, I am banned out of gyms due to hitting a huge guy that said "f*** you" 3 times in a row. Do not think that thin guys can't hit hard, 1 shot and he was sleeping, then he reported me and lied about what happened, I told the truth and then told him that I am a 3rd Dan Karate and I would see him outside. The beauty of Keto in those first few months is how you can indulge in fats without guilt, but then the reality kicks in ... you need to start paying attention to just how much food you're consuming. Too much of a good thing is still too much, that's the mistake I made. I lost 36 pounds in a few months on keto, I'm 65 and I weighed the same as when I was an athlete in college, but slowly and surely over the course of the next couple of years I gained 10 pounds back and didn't feel the same energy and euphoria of that first year of keto. Adjusted the amount I was eating, lowering my fat consumption some, and voila', lost those 10 pounds in a matter of months.

    I've been wondering about this. If you eat 300 g of protein every day, but only need 120 g, what does your body do with the excess?

    • @asherasator
      @asherasator 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It becomes fat. The only difference between a carb and a protein is nitrogen for the body to make animo acids with it then metabolizing those there are uric acid byproducts. Once nitrogen is stripped during oxidation it's a carb. Saturated carbs If not oxidised for energy/ATP group together in various ways creating long chain fats and cholesterol and put to use or get stored.
      Carbs are the smallest, easiest and cleanest to oxidize into ATP. Next is proteins, then fats. They're all oxidizing at the same time when coming from the diet, the size of them dictates the burning order so they're like buffering energy and compounds in the system. When carbs are missing as an energy source the whole system revs up to oxidize fats or proteins and many things have double duty to perform to sustain structural, biological and hormonal integrity.

      Gluconeogenesis. Protein in excess of what the body needs to either repair or build protein tissue, isn't wasted. It is converted into glucose, and then the excess of that glucose which doesn't get burned gets stored as fat.

      @krisswegemer1163 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks @asherasator and @y00t00b3r. I'd been operating under the belief that your body wouldn't convert protein to carbs unless you had exhausted both your carb and fat supplies. Sounds like that's simply what happens when you eat excess protein, regardless of other conditions.

    I sleep better, I don't have to go pee 3 times a night. I can sleep 6 hours as before I would only sleep 3 to 4 hours.
    I can go up stairs without having to pull myself on the stair rail.
    I was not a marathon runner, I did not have weight lifter's muscles but my diet was mostly potatoes, bread, pasta, etc.
    I don't understand what is your message.
