    Sims 2 is fascinating. I kinda miss its greenhouses, ability to actually buy something in grocery stores, ability to _buy_ animals, those fancy private school dinners, and, gosh, WITCHES. Also I can remember some building videos: guys used landscaping to form a building off-grid. Magic.

      @@mwahha6965 There was so much personality in Sims 2 and 3.. there's none in 4.. you have to create it all yourself.. Sims 4 is too much of a sandbox for me. I love building on it, but I can't actually play.. even with mods trying to add more to the gameplay it doesn't do enough..

    I started playing sims 2 when I was like 5 and I have this distinct memory of throwing my sim a birthday party in the dark, wallpaperless box that she lived in and only being able to afford a single balloon which popped a couple hours in. No one came and my sims later died of starvation. Happy memories.

      seriously when my friends and I were like 7 we would play the Sims 2 together and we were awful sometimes to the sims, once we locked a man in a bathroom with just a soda can and pictures of food on the wall until he died... it was definitely a fun memory I have, but now my friends and I look back at it and laugh

    “The olden days” 💀. I vividly remember making my mom take me to Walmart the day the Sims2 came out and then staying up all night playing because it was just too amazing to stop.
    The progression from the original Sims to the Sims2 is still the best of the franchise. I don’t know how we ever fell in love with the Sims playing the original because it was stressful lol

    • @Codraroll

      Amen. The progression from Sims 1 to Sims 2 was ... surreal. It was mind-boggling how much freedom you suddenly had, yet the gameplay was still so familiar. I never got quite as much into Sims 3 and 4, but Sims 2 will definitely retain a special place in my heart.

    Sims 2 is pure fun, the sims are intelligent so their interactions feel real and are super interesting, the content is vast so you never run out of things to do. The sims look cartoonish but timeless at the same time. The random well written comedic pop ups, the npcs, the adventures, everything about it is iconic. And the game caters to all kinds of players, the realistic ones, the occult ones, the ones which just want to make havoc, every single style of gameplay can be accomplished in this game, with a bunch of packs that add to normal gameplay instead of being one-timers that get staled quickly. Sims 2 is superior

      Seriously. The core of that game is spectacular. I have a hard time finding mods for it but with a little modding and CC it would give it a fresh new look with awesome gameplay. I played it the other day just for fun (I was obsessed when I was 10) and couldn't believe how fun it is still. Way more addictive than the Sims 4 by a landslide. I have to download tons of mods just to make it half as good as the Sims 2.

    I feel like sims 4 has all the building innovations but really took a step back as far as gameplay details though. Sims 2 is still the most detailed sims game ever as far as just some of the nuances of the sims. They just feel more human.

      Completely agree. When Sims 3 came out, I pretty quickly went back to playing 2 because I liked the interactions that much better. I like four, but still am not a fan of the tiny neighborhoods, the overwhelming interactions wheel, and the fact that when I make a new house it's a whole new saved game.

    I remember playing The Sims 2 on a crappy laptop with a ton of mods. I built this HUGE castle, and I mean HUGE, it also had a garden labyrinth, pools, beautiful garden, it was like 3 floors and also had towers, secret passages, all that stuff. But what I was really proud of were the Sleeping Beauty tower (just a beautiful vine-entangled tower with a chamber worthy of a princess) and the ballroom, obviously inspired by the Beauty and the Beast one, tall windows, a star-themed painting on the ceiling, all blues and golds and marble.
    Then my game crashed and when I opened it again the castle was no more. Because I didn't check the storage space on the laptop and if I had had, I'd have seen that there was not enough space to save the file. I still feel sad about it.

It's actually very realistic for people to have more beatup and dated furniture in their house.. not everyone has a pristine home full of brand new furniture. In Sims 2, if you had a baby, it got to GROW UP! And you no longer needed a stay-at-home spouse whose job was to make friends and keep them so you could get promotions, because relationships were hard and you'd need like 20 close friends. Sims 1 was HARD.

    • @AlexaFaie
      @AlexaFaie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShadoeLandman No it didn't. It spawned in a weird place where your sims couldn't reach it, so it got taken away due to neglect and then your sim got depressed, died, then their partner died of grief.
      I honestly gave up after that and just turned to creating ghosts that could swim through carpets. (Drown them, wait for their ghost to appear, remove the pool, build the house on top, ghosts swam through the house!) That and making graveyards next to gothic houses. Granted making the graveyards did tend to make any sims you moved into the house die of grief for sims they'd never met, but it did help with expanding the graveyard so it was kind of a lose/win situation.

    Couple of thoughts. I remember when my dad brought us sims 2 (four CDs), obviously pirated as all of the games were at that time in eastern europe. Our PC was too weak for that game so dad had to make some upgrades too. What you guys never felt was the HUGE jump from sims 1 and their emotionless faces, small scale of vision, to sims 2 where a child could get its parents features. It was something amazing! Plus i noticed this funny thing - im the exact opposite with my skills for the sims. Like, being rased by tiles and all, i now struggle with sims 4 because it feels like too many options to be able to put anything you want, anywhere you want. Its overwhelming! I used to build a square house, click automatic roof and thats all. Now i gotta figure how to make it look nice, otherwise it feels goofy to play.
