This video is amazing! It gives me chills to think that we are so close to seeing our beloved series on screen.
I picked up The Eye of the World when it came out. I was working in a Library and one of my jobs was to put the protective covers on the new books as they came in. I hid TEotW in the stacks of new books and read a few chapters a day as I was supposed to be prepping books. The New Books shelf did not get that one until I was done reading it!

    I started in 1994.
I was in the army, we were out in the field and my NCO, who was reading Forrest Gump at the time, gave me The Eye of the World as I had read what I'd brought already
SGT Robert Woods, whatever you are, thank you

Wow! This is so good! 😍
I haven't even been there from the beginning. I started listening to The Wheel of Time this year (haven't finished it yet) and I'm so happy that I did! It's a great book series. I'm very excited to watch the show! ❤️
I wish for many seasons and I hope that there will be many new readers/listeners to the books before, during, and after the show has finished.

It's so crazy. The Wheel of Time has been a part of my life for over 20 years and it's how I got one of my best friends back in -05. Seeing it come to life, and in such big way is just surreal. The idea that WoT might become mainstream is just mindblowing.

I remember seeing the books on my parents shelves growing up. Way back in the mid 90s.
I finally started reading the series before Winter's Heart came out.
The covers always intrigued me since they were so fantastical and I just always wondered what was occurring in the story.

This one would win the contest hands down. Any fan would have to vote for it it's so good. Really captures so much of the past 3 decades of WoT!

You made me cry dammit! Great job. 1992 I started and I feel like I know something everyone should know. Many of my generation clung to the release of these books. Some of us weren't embarrassed to be on public transport with covers on display either 😀 Very excited, hopeful and emotional. Thank you WoT content creators x

Haha, yes I know! I only have minutes to record while my kids are occupied and can really only do one take. If I had unlimited time and a real studio the singing would have been better. 😊 But I am glad you enjoyed it otherwise!

Allow me, if you will, to tell my Wheel of Time Story....
Way back in the second half of 1995, shortly after Boot Camp, I was in Sub School in Groton, Connecticut. One day, a bunch of us were waxing the decks of our classroom. One of my classmates asked me if I had ever read The Wheel of Time. I admitted that I had never heard of it. He didn't go into much detail, but said it was one of the best Fantasy series he had ever read. At the time, I was more into Sci Fi, Horror, and Comic books, so I didn't seek it out, but locked it away for future consideration.
Fast forward about 6 months or so. I am now stationed on my first Submarine, about to go on my first Deployment. I started to think about what I could bring to read. I wanted something that would take a while, as I was about to be at sea for 6 months. At a bookstore, I stumbled across The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I was like hey that's that series that one guy was telling me about. At the time, there were 6 or 7 (I honestly don't remember if book 7 was out in paperback yet at this point) big beefy books in the series. PERFECT!!! As luck would have it though, a health issue kept me from going on the first half of the Deployment. I started the first book, The Eye of the World, during that down time, and was instantly hooked. The three months I was with the boat, a flew through all of the books, and absolutely loved them! What was really cool was that I discovered other people onboard who were fans as well, some who had already read them, and others who were reading them during the deployment just like me. What was really great was there was a Senior Chief, who was the Chief of the Watch while I was stationed as helmsman, who was a huge fan, so we talked about them a lot during that deployment.
I get home and now have to wait for another couple years before the next book comes out. Here is where the story takes a turn. Fans of WoT are familiar that here is where what is known as The Slog happens. The Slog is a 3 or 4 book period (depending on who you ask), where the books got slower, and the time in between new books coming out was longer as well. At the time I felt that Slog. I had just read everything back to back, then had to wait a few years for the next book, and when I got it, I admit it was slower. To the point it was harder for me to get back into it.
Here is where I truly hope the Fandom doesn't take my WoT Fan card away. I never read past that book. I kept buying new books as they came out, with good intentions. When the Prequel came out, I got that as well. That one I did read, with the goal of continuing after that, rereading, and catching up. For various life reasons, that did not happen. I also stopped buying the new books as they came out. I had a family now, and with that different financial priorities. I couldn't justify buying a book, that I may or may not get around to actually reading one day. These are not words of regret. Just facts of the time. I loved my family. Still do!
Fast forward to one day I read that Robert Jordan had passed away. And it wasn't even new news. He had passed months prior, and it just wasn't on my radar. The only reason I found out, is because I stumbled upon a news story about how this new up and comer, Brandon Sanderson, had been hand picked by Jordan's widow and editor, to finish the Wheel of Time based on extensive notes left behind. And this wasn't even brand new news either! The news of his passing hit me hard. I can't even explain why. I wasn't even keeping up with the series, but once upon a time, that series was a major part of my life.
Two things happened to me when I read this. The first being that I need to get caught up, now that it is looking to be a finished series. The second being that I needed to look into this Sanderson fella. What made him worthy to fill such shoes? Right around this same time is when the hype train was starting for Sanderson's newest book and series, The Way of Kings. Book One of the Stormlight Archive. Most people reading this already know the impact that book had on me. Sanderson has become my favorite current author. But this isn't about him, it's about The Wheel of Time. But without The Wheel of Time, I may not have discovered Sanderson. But I digress, and this is already way longer than I thought it would be.
Sanderson reignited my love for reading. I decided it was time. The series is finished. The show was actually happening! There had been starts, stops, total missteps (*Cough* Winter Dragon *Cough*) , and rumors about a WoT movie or show, with me always having a cautious optimism. I was going to be smart about it though. Even though it is a finished series, I wanted to avoid burnout. So I am alternating reading WoT with other books. Read Book 1, read something else, Read Book 2, read something else, etc. I am almost to the point where I dropped off and am going to be entering uncharted territory. I suspect the Slog won't be as sloggy this time, as I have changed so much as a person and a reader, that I will still enjoy the slower paced books.
All of this just to point out that this video made me emotional. We are now 6 days away from the first episodes dropping on Amazon. I am so excited. Both to see this come to life, but to continue the reading journey that I expect to finish MAYBE by the end of next year? It is a 15 book series after all, and I am almost at the halfway point! But finish it I will! I hope the show sparks an interest with my children. But if it doesn't, that's okay, too. They have their own stories, that will resonate with them throughout their lives and that is what matters. The Wheel Weaves as the Wheel Wills!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your story! What a journey. I also adore Sanderson. You've probably heard this before, but for times when the series seems "sloggy" I recommend the audio books! Only a few short days until the show! 💙

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legends. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In this Age, called the Third Age by some, a wind rose among dedicated readers. The wind was not the beginning, there are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel, but it was A beginning...
