There is a video of the owner of Sirius Yachts talking in the cockpit of a bilge keel 35ds. He steps off the back of the boat and starts walking around in mid thigh deep water. I saw that and I was sold.

Another point is that with twin rudders you would get Rudder protection and at that point you would have to be tempted by twin engines. I like the idea of having 2 of everything when offshore. It's weird that they don't perform as well. You would think that once you start to heel you have one keel nice and vertical for leeway and the other one hanging out like a canting keel giving extra righting

I live on a twin keeler good and I am going to build a boat but it will not have a keel at all, no keel.
James Warram managed fine building cats with V bottoms.
The centre of effort of keels is too low the solution Lee boards.
While I am at it the best sail by far the dipping lug.

i honestly like the idea of them but i guess since they haven't caught on.. it's more of a question of if there are bilge keel boats out there that also fit the other aspects i'd like in a boat. one of my bigger phobias is running aground on a sandbar and then the tide goes out and my boat is laying on it's side getting beaten up by wave action rolling around... a bilge keel would just make me feel safer since that is an on-going phobia i have...

Can it sink in mud? I’m thinking when my shoe sinks in and can’t pull it out… lol
Resting a bilge keeler on soft mud I've heard not advised as it can splay the keels leading to deformity and weakness

Bilge keels are a neat idea that never really caught on.
I agree, I like them however for a "world cruising" sailboat it would not be my choice

You missed pointing angle, and the biggest leeway , and evan a bilge keel cannot dry out on rocks .or uneaten surface , the yacht in your film looked like a moody , is that bilge keel, ?
Sailed a few bilge Keels, they are good for the points in this video. They so suffer into wind though... 45 on average. Could be, one of the bilge keelers I sailed was a moody 346
I dry out on any surface in my bilge keel mate.
