Amazing and I have the tool myself and it’s as easy as Alan made it look
Thanks Tony !!!
I ordered this to net the algae in a large pond in our backyard. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI The net is very sturdy and easy to maneuver in the water. The angled edges make it easier to get into the smaller spaces among the rocks. I didn't realize that the front of the net doesn't actually have a frame to it, just the sides do, but it seems to work just fine. The handle extends to various sizes, which is a great feature when I'm in areas that are tight with shrubs at the edges of the pond. I can collapse the handle so it doesn't get stuck in the bushes.
Thank you for this video. I have it bookmarked and use it every time I sit down and replace my leaders.
Thanks for thee video Alan. Took me about half an hour and a number of unsuccessful attempts to tie an Albright knot in the wind the other day. The FG always seemed too hard for someone with my average knot tying skills, but this makes it look easy.
Thanks Darren, yeah the FG is quite confusing, this video was really aimed to make it as easy as possible to follow. Using some tools to make it even a little easier, especially for those who find it challenging.
I might get one of these if I ever have a need for the FG. I have tried tying them manually a few times and it was very frustrating and not consistent. I realised I didn't need the strength from FG so went back to double unis. Thanks for the demo.
Your welcome, I still use double unis all the time, but this tool is super handy when i prepare my rigs the night before especially for my light setups as FG knots on finesse line can be tricky.
@@fishingmad Here I am back again 5 months later. Getting into BFS so decided to get around to this FG business again. Going to get the tool. Thanks again for video.
it would be nice if you would emphasize which side left or right the tag end is on and actually show the end of the tagline on that side and the leader line and emphasize which one goes to the pole. I had a hard time following which end was where. I believe this would be very helpful to the viewers. I did however figure it out this is just a helpful hint for future video. another helpful hint I also found it easier to tie the knot using the assistance of a knot needle easier to grab a hold of the monofilament line especially with small diameter monofilament or fluorocarbon lines
Looks like he explained that starting at about the 5:30 mark.
Thank you I am off to buy one. Tried the other TH-cam methods and ended up. Well I wont tell you that bit. Frustration and naughty words figured highly.
Im glad you found it helpful. I made the video as i found a lot of people struggled with the FG knot without the use of an aid.
Excellent demonstration and a very handy gadget i was able to tie a great looking knot first go
Excellent! Thank you for the positive feedback
Thanks for making this video!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. Excellent. Best regards.
Thanks Joseph
You should try finishing your FG with a 6 wrap Rizzuto instead of the half hitches. It’s slimmer and It drops your braid tag in the middle of the knot instead of the end.
Good idea, ill give this a try
Very well done!
Looked at the rizzuto finish, looks good. Like with any good braid knot, if the braid looks more opaque and smooth you know it’s snugged up good
I see all the guys saying FG is easy using HUGE line sizes. Yeah that would be easier
Try tying one with 15lb braid and 8lb leader. There's a huge difference
I can see this being worth it
100%, were often using very thin and light line finesse fishing for bream ( 6 pound and lighter ) and tools like this can make it a lot easier.
I like nice tools & technology, but honnestly buying one more tools take space to loose as long time like this to make connection braid / fluoro it wasting time when you see a yukatan knot or blood knot are perfect & made in short time. Making a nice knot on video is great to see but when you're on fishing action i'll never loose time like this just for replacing my terminal leader. Thanks for video
Thanks Fred. We agree when we are on the water fishing we generally use a double uni with 8 wraps on each side and we can tie that in less than a minute. These knots we use all the time when setting p our gear before heading out for the day. They are also very good for rods with small guides as the knots are smaller. Thanks for the comment
fishingmad 👍 i agree . Hello from France 🇫🇷
Thats awesome to know we are being watched in France !! Thank you from down in Australia
fishingmad my pleasure live in south of France I m owner of fishing company I design too all my baits you can visit dream unit fishing com . One of my brand gonna be soon distributed in Austria by a major ;)
That's fantastic. ill check it out for sure. I hope the new business venture in Australia goes well.
FG Wizz is another great Aussie product
Agreed, I have one of them aswell.
another great video
Thanks !!! hope it helps
Do you still recommend using this tool for fg knots?
Also, is the fg knot only for braid to leader? What knot do you recommend for tieing your leader to jig heads etc when using heavy leader?
Yes, I still use this tool, and ofcourse you can do the FG knot without the tool once your confidence levels gets up. For tying line to jighead just use a uni or blood knot. Vids on the channel on how to do this aswell.
Hi, great video, thank you ! How to you lock the arms in the extended position please ? I have to hold mine to keep the arms extended but on the video your look like you do not have to hold them into place ? Please let me know.
Cheers Mate.
Hey Alan I've heard people talk about how good this product is but never seen it used, so thanks for that👍 yes i use my teeth to hold the line😆 something my mother said i should never do! She ofc was right 😉 the tying of from the twists i have recently seen a method shown on TH-cam by Briggsy's FG Knot take a look i think you might like it👍 out on the water im very comfortable tying the FG in my PA but i think if i was in amongst it with the kings tuna or something similar it would need to be done fast and the FG wouldn't be done, probably the double uni while on the water and then a retie when back on land anyway just my thoughts😉 great video 👍
Thanks heaps Peter for the detailed comment. Yeah it is a good tool and the video was really designed at the simplest way to tie the FG knot for bread and butter species. I've seen a few really amazing versions of the FG knot and the one you mentioned is very good, also with the stronger finish. But I think for most anglers targeting usual species this demo will be perfect. Also in any choppy conditions I too resort back to double uni. Thanks again.
@@fishingmad yeah i agree with you there the tool does work amazingly well and i would recommend it to anyone having trouble tying the FG 👍
Thanks Peter, agreed !!!
Well done .
Thanks !!
I didnt see you apply tension, so the coils dig into the mono ?
thanks for the video. I'm a bit confused. I thought that all the strength in this knot is the bite that the braid puts into the leader when the knot is set by pulling hard on both lines. most other fg knot tutorials emphasize the import of this tensioning step
you are absolutely correct. What makes this knot is the braid "cutting" into the leader
I didn't see you tighten the wraps down and sinch them in? Or don't you have to with the device?
Top. Thx
No problem 👍
Thank you
Always come back to this video when I forget how to use it
Really glad to hear you find it helpful !!
Awesome bro. Keep it up 💪🏻👍🏻
Thanks! Will do 100% plenty more good stuff on the way
Don't you need to pull both ends so the braid can sink into the leader?
I don't know what I do wrong, I've done this 6 times with diff mono to braid but the knots just pulls apart easy!!!
Think I'll stick with the back to back uni knot
Thats OK I still use the uni knot and double uni knot all the time.
Nothing beats the speed of a well practiced hand-tired FG. Strength wise it would definitely be similar, but I think this tool may not be necessary for those that want to become good at tying it free-hand. Seems a bit finicky, especially if you're tying in choppy conditions!
100% agreed, this was more a guide for beginners. More experienced anglers would want to do this by hand and be able to do it on a boat or kayak by themselves.
The FG knot is a complicated knot to tie on a moving boat (swell, rocking, movement etc)... this makes it much easier if you don't know the two-finger pinch and lock method or you're a beginner or have diminished dexterity in your hands/fingers.
How would the cheaper versions go do you think ? TIA.
Problem I have is smaller lines like 6lb to a fg on. Will this be easy on a 6lb as well?
It also works really good on light lines, I use it when setting up my bream outfits which is anywhere from 2-10lb line and leaders
You should've pulled the lines after your 1st lock
I can tie FG knot faster and better without this tool. Practice is the best tool. 👍🎣
hi Alan im getting it to the last step but my braid all ready on my line and can't do the last step after locking off the 10 each side
Not that I need one as I have my own easy way to tie them , but you didn't say who and what the price is of that gadget
Wish you had used thicker line . It's hard to see. But good video.
Holy crap the tide has run out before you finish that knot. LOL I’m trying to imagine using that tool in real life and I think hours would pass if you snap a couple of rigs.
I can tie the FG knot in less then a minute, the purpose of the video is a slow and easy to follow demonstration of the FG knot for people who dont know how to tie it. Dont think anyone would learn anything if the video was quick and didn't give people a chance to follow.
@@fishingmad I meant no criticism of you or the video per se. I appreciate it was an educational video and you did great. I was thinking of trying to use that device on a boat whilst it's bobbing around and the time it would take. However if you say it takes you less then a minute I take that on board, but for me having never used that device it just looks painstakingly difficult wrapping lines around locking them into position then doing the not then unlocking then re locking etc etc So I apologise if my comment appeared as though I was criticising you.
Thanks for your reply and no problems at all !! Certainly no need to apologise. I agree with you when im on the boat i generally just do a double uni with 8 or 9 wraps on each side which takes me about 30 seconds. I tend to do the FG knot on all rods before going out or when land base fishing. Thanks
How do you make sure that the braid doesn’t slip off from the leader as mine keep slipping
Dude clip those nails. Good video in any event. Maybe overkill on the half hitches?
I can see the tool making it easier but I feel it’s a lot faster without it
I got this tool the other day. It seems any leader lighter then 6lb the knot forms the wrong way, it goes towards the tag of the tag of the leader line. Rather then up towards the tool. Very frustrating. Any heavier line, and it works perfectly.
You definitely dont need to use an fg knot on anything less then 6lb line
Hey Alan, I’m a big fan of your kayak fishing videos and I love them so much I decided to get my own kayak and was wondering what sort of rod holders I should get. Thanks
Thank you very much for the positive comment. I'm really glad my kayaking videos have helped inspire you to get into this amazing sport. Let me know which kayak you purchased and then ill be able to pass on some suitable recommendations. best regards Al
fishingmad thanks I got a basic seaflo kayak just from anaconda
I see, your best bet will probably be railblaza. Those kayaks dont have rails or handles so the holders will need to be drilled into the kayak directly and fixed into place. Something like this then look for the best way to fit it down. www.railblaza.com/products/rod-holder-ll/ I hope that helps. Do be careful out there some of the cheaper kayaks arent as stable so make sure you pick the right conditions. If you need help on how to check let me know.
Nice info, that will help as eyesight not the best, how do you find the savage gear braid??
Your very welcome Brett. The Savage braid is really good for the price point. I've used many other branded braid at the same price and find them to be very prone to wind knots and thicker in diameter then the Savage stuff. Last week I was on the road and ran out of braid. I dropped by the closes tackle store and spent $60 for a 150 meter of icon braid. The stuff was horrible, no cast distance, wind knots. I've already unspooled it and replaced with Savage braid. That being said there is some awesome braid out there. Goosen is amazing and sun line, j-braid etc are all very good but significantly more expensive then the Savage stuff. Hope that helps.
Great technique but macro video would add to it
Good Video and Product.....i prefer the FG Wizz due to the tool is mounted on a flat piece of wood which suits my huge sausage fingers:)
Thanks David, yes I agree the FG Wizz is also a great tool. I have one myself too. I like this knot assist 2.0 as you can lock the line into place and spin it around or change hands without worrying about anything coming loose. Thanks for the comment.
P.s if anyone wants one, temu sells them for $14. Just as good.
If you're going to use a tool you might as well use a bobbin and tie a PR
👍
Thanks Jared
Very awkward for heavier mono and spectra.
That was a nifty device, but it didn't seem to keep the line from slipping loose from the clasps. Maybe if you wound the line around twice instead of once? Also your knot finish with all the half hitches is messy, have you tried using a rizzuto finish. This is a link to it: th-cam.com/video/iJy6aTLO8GQ/w-d-xo.html This is a beautiful looking and very functional finish to the FG knot, give it a whirl!
Thanks Gary, ill check it out
Think your way overkill on end with all the hitch Knotts Just my opinion
It’s immediately more complicated than just using your teeth it’s not a hard knot to learn.
And I’ve never had an issue trying this on my kayak improvise adapt and overcome
We agree its not a hard knot to learn with some practice. Were just highlighting some different ways it can be done and some options for beginners who may struggle with the knot.
Ummm I think I missed him bleeding the knot
Fg whizz I find is better
Thanks Ken, I also have a FG Wizz and really rate it, but find the Knot assist locks the line into place better.
fishingmad after watching video again I agree that the line does lock better
fishingmad after watching video again I agree that the line does lock better
fishingmad after watching video again I agree that the line does lock better
fishingmad where did you buy yours from?
I don't understand the need for a tool. It just complicates it. And in my opinion I tie a better knot with no tension or using my hand to make a triangle. I prefer no tension because I don't waist but maybe an inch every leader as apposed to a whopping and ridiculous 20 inches. That's waisting line I could be saving. Even if I was a millionaire I just don't like waisting things. I'm a recovering addict/alcoholic and I won't so long with nothing but the shirt on my back so many times. I waist as little as humanly possible.
Thanks for the comment, all very valid points. For some people they just haven't been able to do it by hand, they find it hard to keep the tension. This is a helpful tool. Its not for everyone but helpful for some.
@@fishingmad you know what I appreciate your comment. I was in no way trying to take away from the review, it's great for people who can't. But to me, can't and don't want to put effort into learning are definitely two very different things and you will get so much more out of learning the hard way than taking a 3 prong crutch. That being said, there are people who just can't for medical reasons or vision, or Shakey hands. So I understand.
I appreciate your comment aswell. I always welcome feedback and comments and you made some great points.
@@fishingmad hey man I know this might not mean anything, but our interaction tonight actually helped me. I've been suffering from panic disorder and it's given me something to think about. You seem like a great person that's extremely open minded and that's really rare. You don't offend easily, you take criticism and use it to better yourself. That's the way we learn, no one would ever learn anything being told they were right all the time. Do you have Facebook by any chance?
Im really glad to hear that it helped !! I'm actually filming a video at the moment on metal health during the isolation of coronavirus which will be released next week. I always welcome feedback good or bad as long as people arent rude about it. You can see our Facebook page at the following facebook.com/fishingmad.com.au and our firnedly group chat at facebook.com/groups/231048470580370 hope that helps, Have a great day !!
maybe say "tag end of leader and tag end of main line" youre very confusing
Looks like a great tool but you're out of your minds if you expect people to $50 or more for product + taxes + S&H. That must be one obscene profit margin you're enjoying.
I dont sell any fishing products. I get messages from followers asking me to show them tools in the market I than go out and buy the product to show others. Zero profit for me. I agree its an expensive tool to tie knots but for many out there who struggle to tie the FG knot they might find it helpful.
Hi Alan. How much does this kit cost please?
There not cheap the one I bought cost about $65. That's a lot for a tool to tie a knot, but can come in very handy. Just jump on google and search for shops that sell them. Cheers
@@fishingmad Many thanks indeed ALAN. Very appreciated. Mate; I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and a Fantastic New Year. Take care my friend.
