@@steventaylor3884 Thank you 🙏. There are some strange pronunciations for place names. Mildenhall pronounced Minall for example! Or there’s no D in Ludgershall.
In spring and autumn mostly Sundays I'll walk from Chippenham to Calne grab a coffee and snacks sit in castle park for a bit then walk home. I think it's the perfect level walk for all ages.
Really enjoyed this video and never realised the old railway was now a 7 mile trek from Calne to Chippenham. Also had no clue as to the canal being so prominent in the town. Great history lesson also.
The Calne Heritage Quarter is well worth exploring - and I have done this for you! Click to watch th-cam.com/video/4LkZDwUtnvg/w-d-xo.html
Pronounced Kelne
@@steventaylor3884Thank you. These days very few folks pronounce it that way. Karn is the common way.
Depends on if you grew up here and what era I suppose, good video by the way.

Very nice thx Roland. What goods would have been unloaded?
At Calne it would mainly have been live pigs for slaughter at the Harris Pork Factory. Plus other essential items for the town.

@@steventaylor3884 bacon and ham would be loaded at Calne station for distribution.
Excellent video of Calne - having lived there for 20 plus years, I know this so well but still learned much that I didn't know
Thank you Mark. There is another Calne video on the way!
It closed after a breach at Stanley over an aqueduct over the Marden in the early 1990's.
It closed in 1914. I think you meant to type 1900s. Thank you for commenting.
