    Edit March 2023: The Top of Europe pass (inclusive of rides from Eigergletscher to Jungfraujoch) has been discontinued from 1st May 2023 onwards.
    The Jungfrau Travel Pass (multiday) is still being offered. With this pass, an additional ticket (CHF 63/75) is required for the final section (Eigergletscher - Jungfraujoch)!

    3 days trip and will stay in Interlaken. We are 3 adults. Our itinerary is not decided yet. But we are interested in following things:
    Mountain peaks : Jungfrau & First
    Museum: galcier garden, chocolate museum
    Villages/towns : murren, gimmelwald, Grindelwald, Guyryer, lauterbrunnen, morcote
    Waterfalls: staubbach or trummelbach

Up to which point EURAIL Pass can take from Interlaken Ost Station and from which point one should take Swiss Train to go to Jungfraujoch ? 3. From that point how much will be the cost of Swiss Train to reach to Jungfraujoch? and 4. I will be in Interlaken on the 2nd week of May this year for 3 days. Will it be rainy on that time?

      @@MyDiaries1626 based on your itinerary and assuming a 4 day swiss travel pass (flex) and 4 day Top of Europe pass (and no discounts for Zermatt-Gornergrat), it would cost you approx 750-800 CHF per adult. I think a half-fare card along with the Berner Oberland regional pass can save you some money (~50-100 CHF per adult) depending on your detailed itinerary. Might be worth checking out this option, if you still have the time.

    Thank you for your tips. Was very helpful but I would still like to get your recommendation on the best travel pass option for us. We are staying in Switzerland for 8 days and below is where we will have our base accommodation on those days.
    Day 1 - Day 3 - Zurich
    Day 4 - Day 8 - Interlaken (then back to Zurich on last day for our flight)
    We of course would like to cover as much spots as possible including the Jungfraujoch.
    Would the best option be to go for the Top of Europe Pass or Swiss Travel Pass? We are a family of 3 with (with a 5yr old kid which I understand is free in most transportation)

    • @socalled.travelexpert
      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching... given that you are only traveling between Zürich and Interlaken, the Swiss Travel Pass is not worth it. Your best option is to buy the Top of Europe pass. Book your train connections between Zürich -Interlaken as early as possible to get the best deal. If your total spend on the travel is above 240chf per adult, you could also consider buying the Half Fare card for ~120 chf (which gives you a 50% discount on all trains, bus, cable cars & mountain railways (incl. Top of Europe pass).

      Thanks for watching...if you're staying in Lauterbrunnen for 3 days, then the Top of Europe pass is the best option. If your travel dates from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen are fixed, you can already purchase an advance (non-refundable, non flexible) ticket (from www.sbb.ch) which will be the cheapest option. So i am planning a 2 day trip based out of Interlaken. I have the cruise in mind along with a visit to Lauterbrunnen and Hader Klum.

    1) is top of europe is valid only for one roundway trip or 1 day?
    2) can one person buy tickets and passes for all 4 people?
    3) can we use half fare pass to buy local bus, boats tickets..

    • @socalled.travelexpert
      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching my video...I think the Top of Europe pass and the Half Fare card is your best option (based on your travel plans)...if your itinerary is fixed, you can also purchase advance train tickets between Zürich and Luzern/Interlaken with the half Fare card to get cheap train tickets.
      1. With Top of Europe pass, you are allowed unlimited trips to the Jungfraujoch (within the pass validity days)
      2. Yes, one person can purchase the pass on behalf of others. Each traveller then gets an individual pass, which must be countersigned by the individual.
      3. Yes, the half Fare card will give you a 50% discount on all bus, boats, cable cars etc. Even the Top of Europe pass is discounted with the half Fare card.

Will you be around in the Interlaken region on a Monday? Are you doing any organized group tours (or just arranging your activities independently)? Only then can I give you an informed recommendation.

      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi... thanks for watching my video... hope you found it useful..
      1. Top of Europe pass does not include local bus transportation in Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen. If you stay in these villages, you are entitled to free bus transportation as part of the tourist tax. Train from Interlaken to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen is included in Top of Europe pass. If you're staying in Interlaken and want to travel to Jungfrau, you won't need the local bus transportation in Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen anyways

    • @socalled.travelexpert
      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2. The Swiss Travel Pass only includes free travel till Grindelwald/ Lauterbrunnen... thereafter it is only a 25%discount off the Jungfrau ticket price. So, buying the Swiss Travel Pass if you are only planning to travel to Jungfrau is not a recommended option. You could look up the option of buying a 1 month half fare card (details on Swiss Rail website), which might be a cheaper option... Good luck & enjoy your visit.

      There are 2 passes 1) Top of Europe and 2) Jungfrau travel pass.
      These cover the same attractions except that Top of Europe includes unlimited trips up to Jungfrau (but does not include the lakes), while Jungfrau Travel Pass includes the Brienz& Thun lakes (but you need to pay a ~65-75 CHF surcharge) for the section Eigergletscher to Jungfrau.
      You can decide on the pass depending on the weather...if the weather forecast for all 3 days is cloudy/rain at Jungfrau, you are better off buying the Jungfrau Travel Pass and enjoy boat trips on the lakes....see my responses to Sujani in the comments section...let me know if you need any further info (the map showing the validity of the Top of Europe pass is also covered in my video between 2:37-3:37)

      Hi...yes, the Top of Europe pass is a good option (either 4 or 5 days), as it will give you considerable flexibility for your trip to Jungfraujoch in case of bad weather. You could even choose to go up more than once if you wish. Remember that the Top of Europe pass does not include the Brienzer Rothorn steam train and the boat rides on Lake Brienz/Thun. But a day pass including unlimited rides on Lake Brienz & Lake Thun is offered at 39chf only on Monday (which is a very good offer). Tip: If anyone in your group has a birthday, then travel on the ferry and the Brienz Rothorn steam train is also free for that individual on that day. The local travel in Grindelwald will be covered by the tourist tax you pay your hotel/Airbnb. Remember to ask them for the bus pass. Same for Interlaken as well. The Top of Europe pass does not cover local city bus services in Grindelwald or Interlaken.

      Thanks for watching... buying the Top of Europe pass only makes sense if you are in the area for at least 3 days. You can get this at a discount if you also have the half Fare card. The Top of Europe pass covers many other attractions (including travel to Grindelwald & Interlaken)...see this video summarizing the different travel passes.
      th-cam.com/video/rBngesZ4nFU/w-d-xo.html
      Each pass only covers an individual, so you and your partner will need to buy two separate passes (you can purchase these at any train station in the region and don't need to buy it in advance)... hope this helps!

    Hi....thank you for thr amazing tips.. just one question....we are staying for 2 nights in interlaken and 2 nights in wengen....is the top of europe pass a good option for us to travel within these areas too ? We have 2 nights in Lucerne and zurich, for which we thought we ll get a half fare swiss pass ....would love to know your suggestions ...thanks in advance

      Hi.. thanks for watching..yes, the top of Europe pass is valid in Wengen (no cars allowed in Wengen), and the pass includes the train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen (and onwards to Jungfraujoch). The top of Europe pass is only valid for the train going from Interlaken to Grindelwald/ Lauterbrunnen (so local bus transport in Interlaken is not included)..but if you're staying in Interlaken, as part of the tourist tax, you will also receive a local travel card from your hotel/host which includes local bus transport. The top of Europe pass also does not cover local buses in Grindelwald (but you won't need this anyways for travel from Interlaken to Jungfrau).

      As an example, you would pay 269 CHF for a 4 day top of Europe pass (full price). With the half fare card (~120chf), you only pay 179 CHF...so effectively with a half fare card you pay 40chf more, but you would easily recover that by getting 50%off for any travel in Lucerne (Titlis etc.)

      Thank you so much for your prompt reply....it was very helpful...in Lucerne we just want to do the cruise and old Town... in zurich we have a tour of Rhine falls and black forest....so the top of europe pass plus half fare would be our best bet instead of a Swiss travel pass?

    • @socalled.travelexpert
      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes..I think so, because with the Swiss pass you only get a 25%reduction from Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen to Jungfrau (which is ~200chf full price), so the Swiss pass will turn out more expensive. If your dates are fixed, just book an advance ticket between Lucerne to Interlaken (or with the half fare card) btw...you do know that the Black Forest (Schwartzwald) is in Germany, right...and the Swiss pass won't be valid there anyways.

      @@socalled.travelexpert yes yes we have booked an organized tour for the black forest...:)
      Your replies have been really helpful...we are canceling our swiss pass and going with top of europe and half fare....when we calculated, it was nearly 140chf lesser....thank you so much...:)

    Greetings, when you try to get seat reservation, does it require for you to use on a specific time or you can use that anytime of that day?

      Thanks for watching...the seat reservation is only valid for the specified time.

    If v reach Interlaken first, from there what r the villages v can go and where is stay required.

    • @socalled.travelexpert

      Thanks for watching...2 popular villages are Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Both are highly recommended for a stay, compared to Interlaken (especially if visiting Jungfrau). The villages of Wengen and Murren (accessible from Lauterbrunnen) are also very beautiful. Another beautiful village near Interlaken is Brienz.

    My question is unrelated to your video but I hope you can answer it.
    Is visit to lindt home of chocolate, kilchberg in included in the swiss pass ? I have checked so many sites but no luck.

    • @socalled.travelexpert
      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No..the Swiss Travel Pass does not include free entry to Lindt Home of Chocolate. You have to buy a dedicated entry ticket... you can Google the website for details of ticket prices.

    I found something very strange while booking the top of europe pass just now....I could not choose country as India for the billing adress...every other country was there....anyone else facing this problem?

    • @socalled.travelexpert
      @socalled.travelexpert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure why you're facing a billing issue. But please, please do not book the top of Europe pass in advance (till you are sure of the weather). If it is cloudy/raining at the Jungfraujoch, you will pay for an expensive ticket just to experience the fog.
      If the weather forecast (usually reliable 24-48h in advance) is for clear skies on the day of your travel, you can just walk up to the train station counter (Interlaken/Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen) and buy the pass on the spot. There are no discounts for advance purchases (that I am aware of).

      @@socalled.travelexpert oh oh OK....we were thinking of booking it early so that we can use the other trains in the region too like harder klum , and the connecting trains within the jungfrauh region... our itinerary is finalized, first day is harder klum, second is kayaking and canyon swing and first, third is sky diving and 4th is jungfraujoch :) so we thought as everything else is booked too we ll do this along with it ...:) we understand that the weather can be unpredictable...so we ll wait until we get to interlaken then .....we ll only buy the half price pass

      If the Jungfraujoch is covered under clouds, (but it's not raining at the lower levels in Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen etc), you could also consider the Jungfrau Travel Pass instead. Main differences to Top of Europe pass:
      1. Section from Eigergletscher to Jungfrau not included, (doesn't matter anyways if cloudy weather predicted on Jungfraujoch)
      2. Boat trips on Lake Brienz & Lake Thun included with return train travel to Interlaken (not included in Top of Europe pass)
      All the other inclusions are same as Top of Europe pass (Wengen/Murren/First/Harder Kulm etc). Visit the Jungfrau Travel Pass website and check for yourself.
      If you want further ideas on day trips near Interlaken, have a look at some of the other videos on my channel 👍
