It gets hammered hard every day by illegal black market anglers. You probably know how it is. However, there are times when there are so many fish up in there that even the poachers can’t put a dent in it. I hope the NGPC have been building some cases vs. these poachers and nail them soon.
@@nFISHnNation I'm in the Nebraska City area so I don't run into that very often. I've seen that spot on Pig Patrol's vids. How is the lake itself? Pretty good fishing? Quite a drive for me but maybe a long weekend trip kinda spot.
@@Midwesthookset I'd best describe Johnson Lake as a big shallow fish bowl with not a lot of structure to it but some key points including the inlet, outlet and the damface. There's a couple humps , some deeper drop offs that come off the only island in the reservoir. Shoreline access is limited to the two state park sites , the outlet and the outflow canal and some small spots near to the bigger campground. Kayaking is very limited to close to shore on not very windy days, coves around the marina. On the very minimal wind days which is not often, the entire lake is kayakable. PigPatrol's vids have been primarily of the inlet and a little of the outflow canal where smallmouth and sometimes wiper like to be. It's a nice campground (2 campgrounds) with all the amenities but it can get very crowded and busy. Look for the off peak seasons especially right now can be very enjoyable to camp and fish at.
That wind lets me know it is certainly Nebraska. Nonstop action and the obligatory dude that crowds in on your spot. There's always at least one guy....
I'm up in Norfolk and we're hoping to come down there sometime this fall. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? I plan on bringing my boat as well. Just never been there and hoping it pans out for us. Thanks in advance
I'd start at the Inlet Boat Ramp. Usually, some action to be found around the inlet. From there, I'd just see where the other boats are congregated which is probably wherever seagulls are massed feeding on the massive groups of shad. That would be a good starting point. Good Luck ! Good Fishing ! 👍
