Hey - of course you wouldn’t know. I don’t give my social media accounts to my students.
I’m assuming you are one of my past high school students? There is a first for everything. Welp, I need to set boundaries:
I ask you not to share this account with other students or my past coworkers, co-teachers, and colleagues.
I also ask that you don’t troll me. (Teachers have personal lives, goals, and selves outside their professional lives. As a queer and trans educator, this is especially true.)
I would prefer you not continue watching my videos, especially if you are one of my grade school kids. (If you are you should not have been able to get through my age limit preference.) If you are of age and queer or trans and find my content helpful, healing, or engaging I won’t try to stop you from accessing my videos, though. They are for us, by us, and I won’t bar you from access to them.
This goes without saying: If you do comment on future videos please don’t share any lewd comments, jokes, or sexual innuendos of any kind. You were a child under my care and jurisdiction, That is a morally binding social contract. Teaching yall is a part of who I am. And yall are a part of my heart. But I’m an adult. Because of my role as your educator, I have authority and power over you. In my experience, that power and feeling of authority never completely goes away.
If you decide to continue watching these, keep the following in mind:
I’m showing up completely me, wholly authentic, and not as your ex-teacher, Mx. Imani. This is a personal, private account separate from my professional role as a teacher/teaching artist. I’m a radical, a rebel, a freedom fighter, a free spirit, a healer, and a lover of humanity and all black people. I share these videos to immortalize my healing and transition journey and to inspire people who share my experiences or want to learn from them. As your ex-teacher, I hope you never forget that you don’t have to believe or agree with everything (or anything) someone says in a video, book, or any form of media. (Even if they are me. Especially if they are your teachers. You all teach us just as much as we teach you. (I know because I’ve taught my teachers and have known things they didn’t know. Believe in your power and strength no matter where somebody went to school or what they have. You have something special and unique to offer the world. You can respect others, disagree with them, and have something singular to bring to the table.) I want you to have your own mind, opinions, values, tastes, ideas, and life path. I discuss topics I know well, am well-educated about, and have studied and experienced, but I want you to never forget that it is important, it is your right as a human being to question authority figures, the powers that be, and those who hold the keys to every kind of door. You are allowed to disagree with me and anybody else. Shape your own path. Be who you are, no matter what. Accept yourself. Chart your own course. This is what this channel is about. And it’s what I’ve always been about, even, or especially, as a teacher.
I’m glad you commented and told me you were my student. It gives me some clarity on how to further navigate building my platform.
Seeing you all around the city and sharing a hug or hello is one thing, but this is a whole other awkward can of worms😂
Anyways - be good, take care of yourself, I hope you’re doing well. And never forget what I said. Be who you are🤘🏾✌🏾✊🏾
And happy holidays to you and your family.
      Much love,
      Mx. Imani💙
