    I loved when you laughed and said Meghan doesn’t do the earth mother thing. 😂 That dress really looked terrible on her. I don’t like when she wears head to toe beige.
    You’re right that Kate’s hair color used to suit her so well and that her current color is too warm. Unfortunately when people start going grey it’s very hard to keep a dark color because it really contrasts with growing white roots. So women lighten their hair which tends to go warm so easily.
    I will say though that she has improved her eye makeup. The thing I couldn’t stand about Kate’s look was the dark eyeliner all around her eye. It looked so bad.
    I would love a style evolution on Kate. That would be great to see.

      Yes, I'm with you on these thoughts. Meghan's dress...she has a wide-eyed innocence that all the straight lines don't embrace, despite a body with straight lines, which is interesting. Colour-wise, she has so much more colour in her skin than the dress can meet. Kate's lighter hair is probably because of silver, when the silver might be the best highlight colour of all, but the natural colour shouldn't be that hard to replicate, making me think the orange was intentional. Yes to the eyeliner, her eyes get lost. I look forward to a Colour Evolution series because Kate is so high on the list of celebrities who get so much right in colour and style.

    I liked the purple balance on MM but the blue met me way before she did. I couldn’t get past it to look at her. Also the white dress looked cream on my screen, especially against the cold white paper behind her, but as a cream look, to me, it suited her nicely. Maybe it’s my screen.
    I agree with the poster below who said they are sun worshippers in the UK because it’s always so gray there, so the bronzer is probably a longing for the sun.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Quite true, could be screens as you say, or the garment colour being better for another person, or possibly the colour is fine but the textile is one of those super-saturated pigments they use in fabric and cosmetics.
      Interesting about the bronzer, I've always associated warm climates with loving bronzer but I'm sure you're right about both, that UK folks love bronzer (I see it in videos) and it's related to climate.

    Regarding Kate: Her hair looks like mine did when it turned brassy a few weeks after being colored brown in the salon.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine too. I don't understand the hair chemistry or whether it's certain brands of dye, but cool-toned hair seem to get those brassy orange tones, and even more when the sun shines on them. Maybe it's because the choice of dye colour had too many orange tones in the first place, whereas the versions of red or brown in cooler hair are more blue, and it doesn't really have any orange tones. There must be more to it because I imagine warm-coloured hair or persons could have the same experience of brassiness with dye that could be related to wrong colour choice, or the effect of bleach and a change in the hair strands themselves.

    Interesting comment about Kate's hair. As a DW with dark cool brown hair, I find almost impossible to maintain a light cool brown (that's not awfully dull) when it comes to hair dye. It always turns neutral-to-warm in 2 or 3 washes. May be something in hair dye chemicals? That's why I decided to get back to my natural color, and I'm inclined to not dye it once my grays appear. Great video, btw!

    Dear Christine. I want to ask about Kate's look at 18:00. Summers can go quite dark, especially Soft Summer. So why this outfit is too dark for her? Is it too warm? Can Soft Summer wear head to toe dark (navy,graphite,burgundy...)?

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      My reason isn't so much technical as how I'd react to meeting this person, feeling no relief from darkness. Summer is essentially a light Season (cool, light, soft are Summer's colour properties) and although anyone in any Season can wear their Season colours as they like, including all dark or all light, I find the look is more interesting when there's more movement through the colours. The lighting isn't ideal but the red seems strong. I could imagine a heathered berry, which might be this dark, with light accessories in pearl, pink, or any of the other colours, to add light, lift, and flow, more like her natural colours, compared to the present outfit that seems rather solid.

      I prefer natural as well, the 'L.A. Look' becomes almost generic. Agree about Kate with cooler hair and dark green. Do you mean Princess Mary of Denmark? Looks a bit like Kate? Royals are challenging for two reasons, one that what's considered beautiful in appearance varies by country, and two that the public may feel that comments on appearance are disloyal and IDK the political climate in various countries. Come to think of it, Mary looks even more like Jennifer Garner. I wonder if there could be a theme here.

    Meghan's dress sense is terrible. Those who are short waisted really shouldn't try to do a monochromatic look because it only emphasizes her lack of a waist. If you notice from her Suits days, wardrobe often dressed her in fitted separates, which gave somewhat of an illusion of a waist. Catherine's dress sense is much more focused on highlighting her job requirements: highlighting British fashion, diplomatic dressing when abroad, and monochromatic coat dresses (which she can wear well because of her svelte figure and long lines) as the Queen herself also did. Remember, Catherine is Princess of Wales and is also preparing for her role as Queen.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As an outsider to the UK, I find Catherine does a remarkable job of bridging the span of people who place more or less trust in tradition, although I don't live there and could be wrong about that. She embodies tradition, in her appearance, voice, movement, as well as clothing style, meaning she looks the part and has almost grown into a professional princess. She reminds me of the Queen in that way, you couldn't find a person better suited. Even the extreme discretion seems to come to her naturally.
      Meghan is unique in different ways. It seems inevitable to compare them but they almost can't be. I sometimes wonder if Meghan feels she can't please anyone. Traditional looks might seem frumpy. Certain movie star looks are pretty good, I think, although I'm no style expert, they just allow her to be herself. Not so much bombshell, but she has something 'fairytale princess' about her. How would she incorporate that and still be seen as politically correct, a pressure I'm sure she carries. Sorry, IDK the style terminology or solutions :)
      Would you find that everyone should create a waist or illusion of one, or would some body types focus on other things, like long legs or beautiful shoulders? I rather liked that white halter-style honeymoon dress and she doesn't need longer-looking legs. Maybe that's a given with short waists, that legs already look long.

    • @guestguest2030
      @guestguest2030 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ChristineScaman Because Meghan is married to Harry, who is not in the direct line of succession (the direct line comes from Prince Charles to Prince William and then to Prince George, etc. etc.), she did not have any restrictions on her fashion-wise. Some of the fashion faux pas she experienced were her own fashion choices. She herself has said she was her own stylist. I've seen the American press make claims that dark nail polish was not allowed, or that royals weren't allowed to show the shoulders. None of that is true. The Queen used to wear red nail polish when she was younger, and both Diana and Catherine have worn dark polishes and off-the-shoulder frocks. That said, I'm digressing. 😀 Sorry! You are doing colour analysis, and I merely wanted to point out why Catherine chooses certain colours when in professional mode, and that the monochromatic look can not look right on a short-waisted stocky sort of build. @@ChristineScaman do you think Light Summer could handle something along the line of "golden ashy" hair color? Like 8.31 for example. I followed your podcast and I think you mentioned Light Summer shouldn't go too light, may be one or two shade lighter is enough.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The colour depends on the person. There are LSu with 'golden ash' hair naturally, quite amazing with cloudy blue eyes, a rare presentation. Dye is less predictable and tends to be much more saturated than the natural colour, especially for this more uncommon presentation of the Season. By 8.31, I imagine you meant the hair colour level since the timestamp shows Meghan in the video, but I'm not familiar with that classification system. Yes to staying 1-2 levels lighter, more than that and the hair is too light and outside the value range that flatters the face, makeup, and clothing, too obviously bleached.

    • @TheGareth87
      @TheGareth87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChristineScaman Your 1-2 level lighter rule is so helpful. Thank you! My mom is an Asian Light Spring with tan skin naturally (it's peachy sand but would read on a Caucasian person as "tan"). It is much more flattering to keep her hair range between light golden brown to medium / darker golden blonde with smooth transition between highlights and base color...than the excessively light blonde often seen in Caucasian Light Spring celebrities. Basically, closer to the value of her skin tone even though she can wears much lighter colors as clothing or makeup. I feel I'm a Light Summer with hair a little darker than my mom's (both of us have lighter hair than typical Asian hair, and with natural hint of gold / red highlights under direct sunlight). The hair confuses me for a long time about my season because I fooled myself into thinking I could balance black. I knew I need a certain level of "brightness" and "coolness" but not all the way cool so I often settled myself into Bright Winter. My discovery is accidentally same as how I discover my mom's season: lipstick (even though I'm a guy). Both of us need a lot of "sheerness" to look natural and not clownish, using a sheer base with a dab of the intended color on top. Hers is light peach and mine is pink that's a little peachy. I feel like DIY color analysis can be less cluttered by starting with either color of the lips and/or color of one's feet bottom (I use this to find her correct blush color). Then go from there.

    I agree that the green striped dress is not Meghan's most flattering. However, the event she and Harry were attending took place on a beach. Also, she was pregnant at the time, and may have struggled to find clothes suitable for both the tour and her stage of pregnancy. I wonder if you have re-thought some of your critique since the Harry and Meghan documentary has aired. Meghan stated that she deliberately dressed in muted colors or neutrals during her time as a working royal, in order not to be accused of stealing the limelight from more senior royals. The occasions when she wore bright colors were often when she was doing an event on her own (like the purple dress) or the final week of royal duties for her and Harry in March of 2020 (the electric blue dress). Meghan has stated that she deliberately chose to dress in a "rainbow" of colors as a way to symbolize that she had departed from her subservient role. As to Harry, he doesn't care about his clothes, he said so very clearly in his memoir. When he dressed in a ceremonial uniform the type was dictated by the occasion and by her late Majesty.

      'The culture likes what it likes.' I'm still learning the truth and scale of it. Just as true where I live. A good thing for showing us what's possible and when cultural or social approval have too much sway. The Princess could be a great example of both, social approval being most misleading. Strong negative reaction to change, wait awhile and it's the new genius. The culture also speaks how it speaks, reacts how it reacts, ... Inspired words :)

    I’ve noticed Kate’s hair getting too warm too. Meghan wearing olive green was a real no.

      I notice lately that Kate's hair looks cooler, it's better. Dark-ish but she's young enough to wear the opacity. And Meghan, agreed, she does pretty well when she can choose her own colours. Just impressions though, I don't follow royals but they do have interesting lives!

      I'm pretty sure Meghan was directed to wear muted colors so as not to draw attention from Kate.

    I agree wholeheartedly about Kate's hair colour. Mind you, I'm also Canadian! 🙂 Speaking of which, it might be nice to do a colour evolution for Sophie Gregoire.

      I only see the royals in grocery store lineups but it looks as though her hair is back to being cooler. Could be a lot of people agreed with us :) Sophie is a great choice, there must be many pictures available. I don't normally do political people (though I'd like to) but she'd be a good choice. Thanks for the suggestion!

      Glad you're enjoying the topics. I am not able to answer your question about lipsticks since I don't swatch cosmetics from retail sources. Have you tried looking on Pinterest, there seems to be a lot of content if you search 'Dark Autumn makeup'.
