Just discovered this car. I really don't understand how anyone can think this is "ugly". The styling is just so clean, streamlined and well proportioned. It's IMHO the best looking van ever made and better looking than a lot of cars.
The only reason I know about the Brubaker Box is Dj Greyboy and his constant posting of pictures on his instagram. It's great that you guys profiled him for this.
They should make this again I would love one.

Ive just finished the restoration of a Brubaker Box and this was fascinating to see the interview with Hansen from Automecca. I believe he has passed on now. Would have been so cool to meet him.

I love it. Mr. Brubaker invented so many things and people know nothing about him. He was involved with Nintendo. He made damn 8 track tapes. Such a legendary man.
I need one of these, just such a cool van. But I would put porthole windows in the back,.... And the deck it out with thick purple shag,..... Yes, I love the 70s!

Looks like two AMC Gremlins welded nose to nose. Don't get me wrong it's definitely neat looking.
I noticed he had a rear marker light out on it? It's always the marker lights on the older generation vehicles that you could never keep lit, lol. I use to keep literally boxes of bulbs in the glove-box so I would keep from getting "fix-it" tickets! What a fun time it was back then. I've lost count of the VW conversions I've owned over the years? My favorite was a microbus that had a small block V-8 in it, lol. I always had an overheating issue with that microbus.
bad ground cause more electrical failures including bulbs, if one of the main grounds are bad the whole sys is bad..

That Brubaker has to be worth a mint, even modified. What was the powerplant, transmission, chassis?
That is just about the coolest thing i've ever seen, also did anyone else imagine the cast of anchorman drinking scotch in the back of it?
would love to see an up scaled model of this with 4 wheel traction, modern v6 or v8 love the design .
I remember seeing one of these on ebay about 5 yrs ago but it didn't have the name of it they just called it a Volkswagen fiberglass body car and that it was rare so I couldn't look it up to see what it was and if I could fix it up for a while I thought it was a one off piece so I didn't bother to even look at it anymore because I thought finding parts would be next to impossible .
The most pimp van of the history of the creation; sure that if someone restarted it's production it'll sell well with the vintage fever and everything. Überpimp; i wish we had it in Europe and in big number.
remember this from kltcar magazine, still looks more modern than a lot of cars today, update the drivetrain, real bumpers and lower it a bit, it would sell
They used this as the run about vehicle in "ARK II", but that one was customized with T-tops
It's a shame The ark II Rv didn't survive

i live in Springfield, Mo but lived in San Diego for years, and the craziest thing is I have seen the exact van he is referring to (the get down tonight Dodge van) in both cities. i could not make this shit up, don't need too.

No, the underpinnings were/are all Volkswagen. I almost bought one in 1990 which had been converted to Corvair power, with a "hotrodded" engine making about 250 HP; all considered, it was pretty fast. My wife didn't want it, though, so...
