- The cyclekart community is a small but widespread band of eccentric builders and racers. Centered around a love for creating, budget racing and having fun they meet annually in Tieton, a small town in eastern Washington for a weekend of races like no other.
This is basically nerdy go kart racing and I absolutely love it! New hobby unlocked
is more like rich people toy. The working class don't have the money or time for this.

@@wayneyd2 They’re limited to a build cost of $2500. It’s cheaper than just the tires for any other motor sport.
@@wayneyd2: Hitting the scrap yards, getting cheap engines on ebay or craigslist and it might be better time spent than sitting around bumming out with nothing to do than to watch tv or hitting the bar. Might take you a year of 5 years, who cares? It is the pure joy/fun of doing something with your hands, your imagination, and then get to play with it among others who did the same thing. Dang dude, you must NOT be the life of the party, eh?

This is absolutely what I wanted to do when I was a teenager (I'm 85 now). I raced in the Soap Box Derby in 1951-53 and won a couple of Swhinn bikes. After I finished racing downhill, I wanted to modify the car and put a lawn mower engine in it. My parents poo-poo'd the idea, so it never happened. This is a great video with excellent photography. I have a 10 acre property just out of Melbourne Australia with a track for these. Build it & they will come !

@@annajames724 not that I know of - I’ve had a track in my paddock for small gocarts then I saw these I thought they’d be perfect. Have a big barn also for functions..

In Thailand they’re making these of old oil drums, and there they can run them on the street and get them plated. Video on it said the cost $1,000-$1,300USD
God, I love that people are going back to more basic tech while celebrating the years of cars we so often overlook. An engine, a gearbox, and a basic chassis and suspension is more than enough to have a lot of fun at accessible speeds. As is so often forgotten, it isn't about how fast you are going. It's about how fast you FEEL you are going.
I’ve been saying this for years now. Seat of the pants feel is soooo much better than a computer doing most of the work for you. No comparison!

I've raced small cars and mini bikes all my life. At the moment, its lawn mowers. I'm 56. I was looking at oil can cars. When I typed homemade small race cars, into the search, I found this.

I've got two full on racers, and a 15 horse little red wagon that does burn outs and cruises at 30 mph. It's fun at swap meets

It must be the most fun one can have with the least expenditure. In the late 79's I lived in Komatipoort South Africa. Small town of maybe a thousand people babies included when a scrambler craze struck the town, badly... At one stage there were more that a hundred dirt bikes of every color and flavor you can think of. Man, we had a lot of fun in the old quarries and nobody got hurt seriously.
I saw the thumb nail and said that's our Valley.
Clicked to watch and sure as crap it's our Yakima Valley.

I can't imagine more "by the seat of your pants" fun than this, and the telling of it was magnificent coupled w/ the HILARIOUS AND RAUCOUS video of these beautiful kar(t)s. Thank you SO much. I'm from the generation of mountain bikers late 70's early 80's, not that I made my own bike, but I have a wild appreciation for this level of ground roots fun.
As a formula one fan and car lover this makes me happy and gives me hope for a revived racing career! Brilliant video!
All my life growing up I've loved bicycles and hot rod cars. I only recently found out about motorized bikes and they have been around since the twenties. Its my retirement passion currently. Now I see this and I didn't know it existed either. I'm torn! What a great day and age we live in. This is freaking cool.

The town I live in is basically a circuit about 3/4 of mile round ,the best fun iv ever had is 4 of us on Honda melody 50cc scooters which top out at about 29mph side by side close racing it was hilarious.
This, this is exactly what I love doing, just racing around in or on buckets, it just feels like you are going SO fast!!

I Like what you said Curt and it seems many states are having their own events? I'm in Oregon and this little town is a perfect candidate to add another racing venue for the up and coming circuit of Cycle cart racing.
@@davidhakes3884 there are no events where i live. I’m still having fun building a car. I’m flying out to Huntsville UT to see the race, meet folks i have been talking to for many years, and see other peoples cyclekarts for the first time. May 2022.

Interestingly, the two wheel brake club meet this month, normally sunday morning in Birdwood Ave next to the Royal Botanical Gardens, for their annual run. Apart from some of the best vintage racing cars you'll get to see on the road, there is an original 1920's or 30's French Cycle car ( don't quote me ) that joins the run, it's completely original and super fine, always one of the most interesting cars at the meet. So good to see that this idea is seeing a resurgence, I want one.

I have been wanting to fabricate a cheaper small race car and I had no idea how to start or what to even look up. My heart is full because I finally found what I have been looking for! I’m hoping to have one built by next summer 😁
Loved the end sequence of the drivers next to their cars, so much personality in them. Felt like scrolling through a character select screen in a video game.
Now if I ever make it out that way I've got to time it for this gathering. These're awesome.

One of these would be so much fun with a 250-500cc, low revving, inline 4 and a 5 or 6 speed paddle shift transmission.

I'm sad to see that this event seems to have died out. The most recent info I can find was a 2022 gathering that was canceled. I've been thinking of building something like a cycle kart for years, I'd love to know if there's still anywhere I can go to get inspiration and technical tips.
Looks like a bunch of folks just out to have a good time and have some FUN! Let's regulate it out of existence.

I lived in Seattle and its environs for about 35 years AND in my teens I lived in Sunnyside, in the Yakima valley. how is it I didn’t hear about this wonderful thing until I moved to Kalamazoo, MI, shortly after this video was posted, and with me in my early 60s?

I’ve always wanted to get ahold me one of the antique cars that were kiddie rides in amusement parks and put a small engine on it. Those things are expensive to get ahold of now!
I started out on a Kawasaki KZ-100 (99cc 2 stroke) motorcycle and it was incredible fun trying to get the best (limited) performance out of it. These really give you the thrill of driving a Formula One car at its limits.

Really happy this one came up in my recommendations. As well as being creative it looks like an absolute hoot. Living here in Australia south of Sydney overtime I’ve seen this place become a nanny state so unfortunately things like cyclekarts simply are a no no. Reading some of the comments it was great seeing people here trying to get these machines circulating in meetings.

I own and am restoring a street legal cycle kart, a 1948 MG TC. Admittedly it's harder to come by and much less budget friendly. This looks like a blast. I wonder if there's any groups like this in the North East US?

This bring me back from the vary beginning of this country and what this country was to be and it is not NOW . We fought the British for our freedom . Each and every day we lose our freedom . We are soft as mud . Our government did this to us and we did it too our selves also . We let our children to play on the computer until their minds got to mush . We our selves are not like our grandfathers or great grand fathers as they was children . Moth of them worked when they was 8 years old . They also played games gone fishing or even hunted . Yes that is right HUNTED with guns . They was taught responsibility . We even as adults dont even carry that . We dont have the balls to take control over our country and take control of our right of freedom . They took that away from us . We just almost got our selves into a revisionary war . Until our government put a stop to that by staring a fake one . People we need to keep our minds on the right track . Dont trust our government both Republicans and Democrats . This is what they are not .
Seems crazy to have street races and then the orchard off road. The lowered, rigid street suspension would be back breaking in the orchard. Seems like apple and oranges. I wonder what the maximum horsepower allowed is?
