This is absolutely what I wanted to do when I was a teenager (I'm 85 now). I raced in the Soap Box Derby in 1951-53 and won a couple of Swhinn bikes. After I finished racing downhill, I wanted to modify the car and put a lawn mower engine in it. My parents poo-poo'd the idea, so it never happened. This is a great video with excellent photography. In Thailand they’re making these of old oil drums, and there they can run them on the street and get them plated. Video on it said the cost $1,000-$1,300USD
I've raced small cars and mini bikes all my life. At the moment, its lawn mowers. I'm 56. I was looking at oil can cars. When I typed homemade small race cars, into the search, I found this. LOVE IT ! Be well, and have fun.

God, I love that people are going back to more basic tech while celebrating the years of cars we so often overlook. An engine, a gearbox, and a basic chassis and suspension is more than enough to have a lot of fun at accessible speeds. As is so often forgotten, it isn't about how fast you are going. It's about how fast you FEEL you are going.

It must be the most fun one can have with the least expenditure. In the late 79's I lived in Komatipoort South Africa. Small town of maybe a thousand people babies included when a scrambler craze struck the town, badly... At one stage there were more that a hundred dirt bikes of every color and flavor you can think of. Man, we had a lot of fun in the old quarries and nobody got hurt seriously.
All my life growing up I've loved bicycles and hot rod cars. I only recently found out about motorized bikes and they have been around since the twenties. Its my retirement passion currently. Now I see this and I didn't know it existed either. I'm torn! What a great day and age we live in. This is freaking cool.

I lived in Seattle and its environs for about 35 years AND in my teens I lived in Sunnyside, in the Yakima valley. how is it I didn’t hear about this wonderful thing until I moved to Kalamazoo, MI, shortly after this video was posted, and with me in my early 60s? Interestingly, the two wheel brake club meet this month, normally sunday morning in Birdwood Ave next to the Royal Botanical Gardens, for their annual run. Apart from some of the best vintage racing cars you'll get to see on the road, there is an original 1920's or 30's French Cycle car ( don't quote me ) that joins the run, it's completely original and super fine, always one of the most interesting cars at the meet. So good to see that this idea is seeing a resurgence, I want one.

I have been wanting to fabricate a cheaper small race car and I had no idea how to start or what to even look up. My heart is full because I finally found what I have been looking for! I’m hoping to have one built by next summer 😁
Loved the end sequence of the drivers next to their cars, so much personality in them. Felt like scrolling through a character select screen in a video game.
The town I live in is basically a circuit about 3/4 of mile round ,the best fun iv ever had is 4 of us on Honda melody 50cc scooters which top out at about 29mph side by side close racing it was hilarious.
Seems crazy to have street races and then the orchard off road. The lowered, rigid street suspension would be back breaking in the orchard. Seems like apple and oranges. I wonder what the maximum horsepower allowed is?
I'd only ever heard of these in passing before and now I discover my corner of the world is the hotbed of their existence. This merits some further research.
I’ve always wanted to get ahold me one of the antique cars that were kiddie rides in amusement parks and put a small engine on it. Those things are expensive to get ahold of now!
I own and am restoring a street legal cycle kart, a 1948 MG TC. Admittedly it's harder to come by and much less budget friendly. This looks like a blast. I wonder if there's any groups like this in the North East US?

I Have been building carts from scratch for years now. My first was a single seater with a 150cc motor cycle engine for off road. The one i am working on now is a bench seat with a 6.5 hp engine for the road. Full suspension on all my machines. not sure if i enjoy building them or driving them more.
This is basically nerdy go kart racing and I absolutely love it! New hobby unlocked
is more like rich people toy. The working class don't have the money or time for this.
