Great job Doris! You are learning so much through this process. I have a few tips for you. Use a chair and save your back. You can always install the lifting tool in the valley of the motor early in the game and hold it all the time while you remove all the stuff so your worries would be over through the entire process. Install a better clutch and next time you remove one, use the clutch alignment pin at disassembly so you do not drop it. You may find a lighter and better flywheel which is always nicer and frees the engine while revving. Check if there is a good option for a fluid filled harmonic balancer for your car (maybe it has one already but I do not know), it always helps and more so in high rpm engines. Replace the flywheel bolts with ARP ones and do the same with the head bolts.
Thank you! A lot of learning..and I love it. A chair would have helped, but it was used up by the front bumper lol. I need to figure out a better way next time for the engine hoist and stand. I will have to get it back on there at one point. Upgrading the clutch\flywheel is on the list. It makes sense to do so. Same with replacing oem bolts with ARP. Thanks for watching!
I love follow your Shelby build. I got a couple tech tips for you, Install a clutch alignment tool before removing the pressure plate, it will act as a handle. Find a safe place for your tone ring that was behind the flywheel, if slightly damaged it will cause runablity concern or false misfires. After you have completed your engine build a engine neutral misfire profile correction will need to be preformed with a scan tool, to prevent false misfire. Thanks for for the awesome build updates Doris.
Small item, not sure if it's been mentioned yet, there is a "clutch alignment tool" that you will wind up needing for reassembly anyway, it is a piece of plastic that aligns the clutch disc with the flywheel so that it is straight when you reinstall the clutch itself, they are pretty inexpensive, but a LIFE saver! Someone mentioned earlier getting a new disc and resurfacing the flywheel, it's a good piece of advice, and cheep insurance, last thing you even want to chance is "grenading" the disc, that can get real bad to fix. Love the fact that you are so methodical about how you go about everything, it's nice to see.
Yes, it has. Most just mentioned to buy an aftermarket set up. It will come with the alignment tool. This will also be new and I won't have to worry about anything else but just bolting it on. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers!
I rebuild engines a lot . Looks like you have the best things available for doing this job well. A beautiful car hoist , engine stand , engine hoist , all of the tools. Could have saved the clutch from falling by installing its alignment tool before unbolting , as you will need it when installing it. I totally admire you for this build , I love mustangs and own 2 of them . All the parts are new and beautiful , and you are very lucky to have them , and want them like you do .
Hi, I basically did the same thing when I was building the engine, in my 1966 Mustang back in 1975. I had the car for 33 years and sold it in 2007. I hated selling it. I miss that car today. I had to learn everything myself also. One thing about putting it back together, Don't let anyone manually help you. Always check everything twice, including torquing down the rod bolts. I had a friend help me and I never checked his work, well, I dropped a rod nut that was never torqued down. Lost the engine and had to rebuild another one, that time, I did it myself with no problems. I didn't have videos to watch back then, so it was all learn as you go. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!!! Amy
Hey! Sad to hear it sold. Having a classic mustang around those year would be a dream. That is awesome you owned it and build it. Such a wonderful experience. Taking this engine apart is showing me more than I thought. I know the challenge will be putting it all back. I have a service manual so that works out. Plus videos and techs I can reach out. So it part..easier than when you had to do it. You have all the skills when YT was not around.. I have the internet to help me lol. Thanks for watching!
Takes a brave person to undertake such a high intensity project. Question, you've gone this far. Why not just upgrade the clutch and flywheel regardless of the condition. Do you think you'll upgrade the headers and cams while everything is out? This is a very interesting repair/build you are performing. Best of luck to you!
Thanks! It's fun but I am very very cautious when doing this. I will upgrade it at this point. It's already out and I don't want to pull the trans when the engine is up to swap it ;) I will do headers. Not sure about cams.. there is very little info about upgraded ones. I will look into it. Thanks!
Ben I suggested she just upgrade the engine . She could put in a better more powerful engine & sell the one she took out to offset the cost. That 350 will eventually have the same issue. She runs them hard I'm still impressed by Doris drive & ambition. ...💖
@@woman.driven Sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind & just make your move. There are people that would come out the wood work to see it run..........just ask💖
I have a 13 gt500. I blew up the engine racing the Texas mile a few years back. Still sitting there broken.... This has encouraged me to take the plunge and fix it myself rather than send off for the $50k fix! Thank You!!!
You did great. When you have 4 corners solid it won’t move on you. Every beginner has those worries. As far as the clutch... yes it got damaged however since it was already out I was going to say replace it anyhow. While you have the whole assembly easy access now is the best time to replace all those hard work get to parts. Which includes the clutch. Don’t worry about it. Also check the transmission input shaft seal. That’s the seal in the bell housings. The shaft that goes into the clutch. When you install a new clutch be sure to use the alignment tool it comes with. Those clutch teeth have to be in perfect alignment and perfect alignment with the pilot hole location on the flywheel.
I'm with Bert on this. You may be young and feel like you can move the world. As a 47 year old who has had back surgery, please listen when I tell you to take care of your back no matter what age you are. Get a stool, young lady.
This video gives me flashbacks, I remember the stress and being passed the point of no return working on my Mustang. You just have to push through and finish because you’ve already gone so far
I am proud of you for not only speaking of the good things you’re doing in these videos but also showing your mistakes. No matter how good we are we all make mistakes! Trust me my blind self makes plenty of them but that’s how I learn. Now if I can find a woman like you who likes to work on cars my world would be perfect!
Thanks! Yes.. I'm learning so I want to show that..and also my mistakes so others don't repeat it ;). I will try and be more careful, but every bolt I remove is something new lol. It's exciting to me..good or bad. Cheers!
ARP head studs are an unnecessary $300+ overkill unless you are running boost. There's nothing wrong with the factory torque-to-yield head bolts as long as they're replaced EVERY TIME they are removed. In fact plenty of us boosted guys are hitting 750-1000 rwhp numbers without ever disassembling anything beyond the oil pump gears.
This.. Although I wouldn't go with ARP with everything, there are some areas I would use them as it would make it easier for a future tear down. I agree with what you said.. plenty running high hp without opening the block the way I'm planning to.
Dont beat yourself up for the clutch plate. You're doing a great job and you are learning alot..Not many people have the cojones to take this on. Kudos. Love your channel!
Your unbelievable and amazing and gorgeous!! Good Luck getting that engine back on track. It honestly makes me cringe because I have a ‘17 GT 350 and I would be so pissed if I had to rebuild it so soon. It is definitely weird how these engines are so hit or miss from the factory. Take care of your Lower Back while you work it’s very easy to strain. And Please Please Please take care of all the holes in your trunk before you put this car back on the road...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you! I am counting down the days to get back on the track. That would be a dream lol. These are hit or miss without a doubt. You have supercharged GT350s running fine and then you get a stock 500 mile one damage an engine. Holes will get addressed in time ;)
Once you finish this rebuild I doubt there is much else out there project wise that would give you any problems at all. I also freaked out a bit the second time the engine moved! Your face at 11:47 says it all LOL. Perhaps if the clutch is damaged it's an opportunity to upgrade the clutch to handle more power? Anyway, great great job really, and i'm looking forward to part 3.
I hope not but if there is, then I wouldn't mind tackling it now. Yes, I totally freaked out. Too many engine rocks in this video lol. I will just get a new clutch\flywheel set up at this point. Thank you, part 3 will be out soon.
Great job Doris. I always place a thick rubber mat that is kind of soft on top, underneath what i am working on. Have dropped and ruined to many things on hard floor....
Not sure if you've looked into it or not yet but mmr sells a cooling mod that helps keep the heat out of cylinder 8. These engines have issues with the coolant jacket keeping cool in that area. Cheap easy mod could save you down the road! Keep up the great videos and work you're doing!
The internal damage to the engine will be due to Ford's poor design and engineering, and should have been covered by the powertrain warranty. Ford's new moniker F*cks Over Real Drivers!
Way to go!! You are a beast!! You've built your channel off of hard work and integrity!! This engine rebuild you're doing is not an easy task, but you're tackling it like a champ!! A lot of people would not have the nerve to do that!! Be proud!! Your channel is amazing!!
Thank you, I appreciate it. It gets into the more difficult projects in time and I enjoy learning as I go. I am nervous with this one as it's very important I don't mess up ;) Thanks for watching!
Alex Velez, let me guess, is that distraction something to do with little shorts, a cute face & smile, thick yet athletic legs & body with the right amount of meat of real natural women?
Yes. I'm taking pictures before I remove everything, putting all bolts and parts that go together, and filming it. The service manual has also been great help.
Kudos to you Dorace there is no way I would attempt doing that but I'm sure you are going to be just fine because you got all the confidence in the world.
Awesome video. You really made excellent progress on the disassembly. The clutch isn't really a big deal, would have been a great idea to replace it any way since it was already out. Now the fun begins, engine teardown! I always loved this part and I think you'll enjoy it too. Good luck on everything, you got this!
What did you do for your Christmas vacation? The other girls at work/IT ...just made cookies, cleaned the house, etc.... Doris...i pulled the engine and trans out of my Mustang Shelby GT 350, separated it , got the engine on the stand and stripped it down.... lol. GJ Doris! :)
Been a minute since the holidays. Time to see whats going on in your life and leave the TH-cam drama brewing behind and look at some real work and information. Love this place. Happiness and smiles and drama free. Many successes in the New Year!
I thought about that right before it fell. Oh well. It happens. I personally wouldn't re-use the clutch. Sending clutch fragments at 7000RPM is no bueno. ( My 3 years of Spanish and living in Benson, Az paid off right there LOL)
You go girl!!! You totally rocked it. You are doing a fabulous job. I know guys who wouldn't EVEN go that far with engine work. We love you in St. Louis Doris, keep up the great work
Good to see you reach out to Kevin, Doris. He's had quite a bit of experience doing the same thing. Just a suggestion...always pay attention to balance and pivot points and consider how a given load can shift. You are working with some fairly heavy componentry now. The stand you returned was preferable but I see why you returned it. Be careful with the one you now have. It has a smaller footprint. When moving the engine on the stand even the smallest of stones jammed under a wheel can cause the stand to become "tippy" when rolling it around. And always watch your foot position too - just in case something fails. Keep up the good work.
Yes. I've spoken to him a few times since the start and now. Very helpful in many ways. I would have preferred the stand I had, but I couldn't make it work. At least not with the current engine hoist. There have been other comments stating they have the same stand with heavier engines and it worked out fine. So that makes me feel a little better. I will be careful regardless. Thank you!
So get a new clutch disc and pressure plate and check the pilot bearing that is inside the back of the flywheel that its okay without any roughness when turning it with your finger. Also when installing the clutch disc and pressure plate you need a clutch alignment tool to centralize the clutch disc relative to the pressure plate surface and flywheel surface. So when installing the transmission back to the engine, the first motion shaft or input shaft is perfectly aligned to slide through the splines of the clutch disc and the pilot bearing inner race.
Don’t worry about that clutch disk, its a common thing to happen and not always easy to catch when removing the pressure plate, if its not something you’ve done before its gonna happen. The damage may also look bad but trust me when i say if you really had to (and i have) it would be fine and still has plenty of wear on it. However your rebuilding it for a reason, improvement, more power and reliability, do yourself a favour and do it right, up-rate the clutch too, you’d really kick yourself if you blew the clutch once its all back together. Only watched a couple of your videos but you’ve just gained a new subscriber, you present it so well and i like the way your working hard to do it yourself, working on a nice clean engine must be a treat though. Keep up the good work and good luck. Best regards from the UK
Not clutch but rather a pressure plate🤪 I would upgrade the clutch disk and maybe even the pressure plate if you plan on adding any pow upgrades. It’s easy now but will be hard after the engine and transmission are back into the car. If you pull the heads remember to cross the bolts (like when removing or tightening a car rim)as you brake them loose. This will insure that you don’t warp the heads....you are killing it. Awesome job
You are so talented. Being able to do the rebuild is a great experience and challenge that I know you can handle. And always doing it with that great smile and attitude.
Hi Doris really liking this Engine Rebuild Series learning a lot and Glad to see you learning as you are going along and at 11:45 my heart skipped a beat can't wait for part 3 Thanks
The clutch have some life in it well until the accident but the way you can tell if you need one when the revits on the clutch are sticking up above the surface.
Great job Doris since it's your first build keep track of we're each bolt went after a few engine builds itle be second nature. Pick up some thread sealer for any bolts that go into oil or water jackets and some blue lock tight and put a little on bolts on reassemble. Get some engine assembly lube aswell for when you go and install the crank and pistons back to. A good piston rings compressor tool will make life easy to. A home Depot Yello top storage bin comes in handy to for keeping all the parts in one place 👍👍 great video keeping the dream alive
Thank you! Yes, I am keeping track with pictures and videos. Plus having the service manual helps a lot. I did notice a lot of bolts had lock tight on them. Good thing the manual states to add that when installing the parts. There are a few tools I will need once I get into the rebuilding phase. I will be sure to make a list ;). The bin idea is pretty smart actually. I will look into getting some for the next video. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Exciting seeing the tear down, dropping the clutch, its hard to keep it all together. Should be easy to order a replacement. This is a great time to install a performance clutch and light weight flywheel. It will be interesting to see what you find on the motor teardown. Great Job!!!
When your that far into it, new clutch new clutch new clutch, for sure, along with all new timing kit, water pump etc. Love the channel, thanks for the content, happy new year 🥳🇮🇪

Gotta give u props ur doin good thats not as easy as it looks dnt beat urself abiut the dropped clutch disc mistakes happen part of learning process keep it up love the content 👍
Hey....dont sweat the clutch drop......you should be replacing it while you have access anyways....you'll realize certain things dont get put back in......only time you re use a clutch is if it's brand new....but good job....your a better mechanic than alot of dudes I know......an air force mechanic once told me.....a great mechanic doesn't need to know everything...he/she just needs to know where to find the answers...and you accomplished that.....you went in scared but knew you had to do it and read up...and got it done.....good job doris....there's a trick to using those engine stands ...but it's a pain in the ass ...you have to put tie stand on wood ramps or something to bring it up to slide it over the hoist
Barely got time to see this video. Let me tell you. Your reaction and face when you removed the fly wheel and the engine rocked was priceless. I jumped up from my couch. Plus i give you much respect for taking on this project. Good job. Keep it up.
Nice job! It is interesting to see your approach to this work. Having built a few nice 4V cobra engines, i'm also interested to see how the engineering has changed. Looking forward to see what you find/learn with the disassembly and next steps!
I wonder how you keep track of the all the nuts bolts and parts you remove? Do you use labels to make sure you know what goes with what when you put it together again?
Either engine stand will work regardless of the hoist. Its the angle of how you approach the stand. The first stand supports about 1000 Lbs. capacity the second one you just bought supports about 750Lbs. The Chain you chose didn't give you a lot of twist. You should allow a few extra links between the lift plate and hoist hook. Also, the starter should always be removed before the transmission. Lastly, if you are that far, always replace the clutch pack. (the fingers looked pretty worn from contact with the throw-out bearing.)
The natural thickness is so damn beautiful, with that out the way i pulled my 02 trailblazer with trans too. Didn't think i could at first but then realized its not as intimidating as it looked. I kept my engine on the lift when pulling out transmission to keep from engine tipping over. Thank god urs didnt all the way. Keep it up and good luck
If you don't have state inspections, and you have no warranty, think this would be a great time to hollow out those cats!! Of course not on video. Also, I would go aftermarket clutch since you are already at this point. Would not be very much fun to have to replace the stocker later when everything is back in the car. Stg1 upgrade or if you plan on boosting the car, now would be a great time to upgrade the driveline parts while you have everything easily accessible. Great work!!! Love the content!!
Clutch disk is basically a brake pad so that little chip on the edge wouldn't do anything. With that being said it's a clutch and a nightmare to change so while you have access even if it has plenty of life left just change it and resurface the flywheel. Also since you have it tuned and you're increasing HP over stock buy a race pressure plate, clutch and throw-out bearing. You'll be very happy later.
Great video,,,so you're going to assemble the long block....🤔 it's not as simple as that 6.2 and 6.4 you have...but very cool nonetheless....props for doing your own work!
Replace the clutch. No matter what. Think of the labor involved to replace it if YOU didn't. Also don't forget to find out how much was machined off of the flywheel so you know what shim to install.
@@woman.driven Damn a new flywheel as well? Well you seem to have the money for it. One other thing would be to go ahead and have the old flywheel machined then wrap it up and set it aside. I bet you have friends with the same car and could possibly sell it at a later date.
Hi doris great videos you are doing a good job on the tear down just take your time. Don't worry about the clutch disc as long as their no heat cracks on the flywheel an the disc isn't discolored from heat. Happy new year can't wait for next video 😍😍
As an ex Chrylser, Jeep, Dodge tech. Pulling a viper motor was easier than I thought since the hood needs to be removed and there's a whole bunch of space after that. Service manuals are there to follow steps but a lot of times I find shortcuts.

I will have to get it back on there at one point. Upgrading the clutch\flywheel is on the list. It makes sense to do so. Same with replacing oem bolts with ARP. Thanks for watching!
Awesome job Doris, u have amazing skills and confidence to take on this rebuild.
Thank you, I appreciate that. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
She has the perfect amount of confidence with these builds because I’m sure she saw it coming it’s the master mechanic way
I love follow your Shelby build. I got a couple tech tips for you,
Install a clutch alignment tool before removing the pressure plate, it will act as a handle.
I said it before and will state it again, your breakdown/customizing vids are teaching ALL of us something new..... great job, Doris 💣💣💣💥
Thank you! We're all learning ;). I'm anxious to tear the engine down to all of it's components. I'm curious on the state of the #8 cylinder.

I love how confident doris is she makes me feel like I can walk outside and rebuild my car within all of a few hours 😂😂😂😂
Hi,
I basically did the same thing when I was building the engine, in my 1966 Mustang back in 1975.
She runs them hard
I'm still impressed by Doris drive & ambition.
I really enjoy when you explain things and man what a smile you brighten my day thank you
You did great.

Does someone organize/bag the bolts and fasteners for you or do you do that yourself also? You get a lot done in one session so was curious.
All the bolts I remove, I gather them with the parts they belong to. That way, when I'll know what they belong to when putting them back.
When you take back that engine stand, look into a stool you can wheel around. : )

This video gives me flashbacks, I remember the stress and being passed the point of no return working on my Mustang. You just have to push through and finish because you’ve already gone so far
Oh I get it.. we're passed the point of no return at this moment lol. Glad you pushed through. Let's see how this goes.
I enjoyed that, your doing great. Maybe a parts shelf would help if u have the space
That's actually a great idea! Thanks for watching.
She’s not afraid to tackle anything.shes an inspiration!
As usual I forget there’s a car in this video....a freaking nice car too.
Cheers!
Don’t forget when you reassemble the engine to use the treaded lock tight. Go with ARP head bolts also.
Damn my respect for u cause i can't even do that👌love ur video's specialty when it's the Shelby GT350👍😘
Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm sure you can..just a month ago, I didn't think I could ;)
Great job Doris. I always place a thick rubber mat that is kind of soft on top, underneath what i am working on. Have dropped and ruined to many things on hard floor....
Thanks! That's a good point actually. In this case, the disc hit the floor jack first lol. That is was damaged it.
When can we expect the engine tear down video? Curious what is going on inside
That'll happen in Part 3 which is coming out soon.
Not sure if you've looked into it or not yet but mmr sells a cooling mod that helps keep the heat out of cylinder 8. These engines have issues with the coolant jacket keeping cool in that area. Cheap easy mod could save you down the road! Keep up the great videos and work you're doing!
There she is💕💕💕💕💕💕

Good job as always Doris 😍😍😍. Do you take pictures before disassembly? To remember where things go. Happy new year 🎊
Thank you. Yes, I take pictures before disassembly each time. Happy New Year to you too!
Thank you I appreciate it. That's very nice of you to say. Thanks for watching. Take care!

Thanks! I enjoy it as well. I am learning a lot..with out without the heart skipping parts lol
The clutch have some life in it well until the accident but the way you can tell if you need one when the revits on the clutch are sticking up above the surface.
Thanks for letting me know. Either way now I plan on upgrading it.

When the engine weight shifted😳 I felt your anxiety as well😄. Great job getting it broken down to the "long block" phase. Aaaaand Cheers!🍻
haha.. like no other. For sure the video was over by that point lol. Good thing it was all good. Now the fun begins!

I wonder how you keep track of the all the nuts bolts and parts you remove? Do you use labels to make sure you know what goes with what when you put it together again?
Great video. You're doing things that most people can't. Can't wait for the next update.
Thank you, I appreciate it. Although this is a first for me as well but I'm very grateful because I'm learning a lot more taking on this project.
So awesome to see a smart and pretty girl working on some amazing cars !!!! You rock can't wait to see this project come to light ..
Thank you, I appreciate it. I can't wait either!
You make it so easy, girl I love how clean and neat you are on your build
Great video,,,so you're going to assemble the long block....🤔 it's not as simple as that 6.2 and 6.4 you have...but very cool nonetheless....props for doing your own work!
Replace the clutch. No matter what. Think of the labor involved to replace it if YOU didn't. Also don't forget to find out how much was machined off of the flywheel so you know what shim to install.
Yes, I will just get a new clutch\flywheel set up at this point
@@woman.driven Damn a new flywheel as well? Well you seem to have the money for it. One other thing would be to go ahead and have the old flywheel machined then wrap it up and set it aside. I bet you have friends with the same car and could possibly sell it at a later date.
