    Disassemble the Camry Engine

  • @smiley19912
    @smiley19912 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If that engine is going to do track type duty cycles, ask the engine machinist/builder to set the compression ring
    gap plus .003" more (then Ford's spec) on cyl. # 8 and #4. The rear cylinders on a V8 tend to run the hottest, buy opening up the ring gap you can avoid pushing them out the exhaust valves and keep the engine happy. If it will be retired to street use, Ford's spec will be fine. If I were building that engine, I would increase the compression ring gap on all the other cylinders by .002" just for good measure. Any Idea on when your getting the engine back?
    PS
    I recommend a tapered piston ring compressor for installing the pistons.

    Hi Doris. Great to see your Shelby engine taking shape again! A tip with the engine stand. After you have bolted on the engine stand bracket, grease the tube lightly before sliding the engine onto the stand. This will allow you to turn the engine much easier. Also, lift the engine higher than the stand and pick the engine stand up and slide it onto the bracket instead of trying to line up the engine with the stand. The engine stand is much lighter than the engine. You can also take the engine off the stand in this way by reversing the above order

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes, I need to grease it. I keep thinking it's either that or I'm not strong enough to rotate it lol. Good point on lifting it higher. I got it off by doing so, but I suppose the reverse as you mentioned will work. Thanks!

    I would love to see the Camry engine gone through. I know a lot of people think its just a 4 banger. But if it has an engine in it, I love it. Maybe a few modest mods too just to keep it fun. I learned my mechanic skills by working at the Ford tractor dealership in Eugene, Oregon many year ago. You know you're a diehard hot rodder with your want more hp from your tractor. The customers loved them too when we would boost the hp by 25 to 50% during a rebuild with nearly no additional cost. Have a great day Doris and keep the channel fun! 👋👍

    At one point I freaked a little - you mounted the head on the alignment pins and walked away without running a bolt into the block. I'd suggest, because about everything goes wrong with about everything 'I' do, that you first rotate the engine so that the alignment pins on one side are vertical. Then put the head on and run a bolt into the block. Then rotate the engine again and install the other head. It wouldn't take much of a bump from you or someone walking by to knock the head off the block if it's not bolted on. Also - I Loved the editing where you were working on both sides of the engine at one time! Really Clever!

    Hi Doris! I haven't rebuild an engine in years, and watching you do it, aaaah! It feels great, I can't deny at times when you weren't doing the torq, I was like wait! You need to finish one side before you move to the other, then you said, that you were not going to do that, because they're going to repair so I felt relieve, and also when you place the heads, I was thinking, and the gaskets? You are not going to put them? And again I remember what you said, im sorry, its just that wgen I used to start a rebuild we would start and finish it if pisible, unless we were waiting for a part to be delivered, or they neded to buy a new one, but having everything, we would finish in 1 day, the mechanic in engine rebuilds and me, that's why he like to work wuth me, because we soulx not stop until the boss would say, "cinizh tomorrow, we are getting the part you need to finish intil tomorrow, that's when he would tell me, ok pick up all the tools, make sure they're clean and have them ready for tomorrow, and I'll be ok, and we would go home, sometimes after 5pm and sometimes after 6pm, but it was good, one week we did 3 engines, and the boss was very happy, thank you Doris for sharing , have a great day, bye beautiful.

    Hi My name is Mark. And i can't wait to see the Mustang back on the road again! I had a 73 Mustang Fast Back. 351 worked. I miss that car. Hey i'm a ford man, what can i say.

    Congratulations on reaching this step! Been a while but the mustang engine is a lot closer to being back home. Either project sounds good, the Camaro or the Camry, looking forward to both. Probably for me, the Camry. Really interested in watching the transformation of bringing it back to glory.

    The GT350 will roar once again. Hopefully you can put some street tires on it and just take it for a drive once the engine is back in just to break it in before hitting the track with it.

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sure will.. better than ever as well! It will be a slow and careful break in before it sees any track. With the parts going in, it will have to be tuned first.. at least a minor one so I can put slow miles on it until it's ready to fully dyno.

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup.. no reason to get rid of it. Most do as it makes sense. Not many would want to repair it :). Hard to say, but heat and fuel was likely a problem tracking on a very hot day. A ring broke and damaged the top ringland and scored the cylinder wall on 8. It's a different car overall, despite of what happened. I enjoyed it. That is why I'm building my own Aluminator 52XS engine :). Lowering it changes the dynamic a bit.. steering response is increased. Thanks for stopping by!

      @@woman.driven I'm going with Diamond pistons and Callie rods. I'll also be sleeving the block. I noticed you didn't put the rods and pistons in. Will you share with us the Pistons and Rods you choose and why? I assume you are not using RGR to build the engine... but maybe those in your area are looking for a good engine builder. Care to share your builder?
