Thanks for all your comments, gents. I have just cleared the kitchen table to put an SME Series V on to my Technics SP-15, and then fit a rebuilt Supex SD900V! Been putting it off for a year, but got no excuse today! Have a great Christmas. Cheers, David
GuttedI only discovered your channel a few months back. A true internet gem.👍 I'm disabled and partially paralysed. Can't use LPs/turntables any longer. It is easy to sink into a dark mood.... BUT you pair always lift me up.😜😁
Another great Riff...cheers. For 2024 please don’t foresake the mighty CD format in favour of other trends. As you say, it can still sound magnificent and over 40 odd years many of us have built up some substantial collections we don’t intend to ditch.
Many thanks for a great year of entertaining hifi and music chat and reviews reviews. Based in part on your review I listened and bought the CXN V2 which has been a lovely addition to my system and has lifted the quality of streaming on my system considerably. Great fun. Happy new year and all the best for 2024.
Jez that stylus timer was a brilliant present - send it to me and liberate it from ‘the grinch’ sitting next to you on the couch Mike! Anyways sending best wishes for Xmas and the New Year- from Sydney Australia- keep the production values low and the content and entertainment values high - a winning formula. Love the channel here’s to 2024
Merry Christmas and the best for 2024 to you! Nice to hear reciews of older stuff in the light of HiF today. I came to your channel about two years ago because of the mainly vintage HiFi reviews, now I am not sure any more, if I not more come for listening to your conversations : ) BR, Joe from Austria
Great video guys so I want to tell you something. My product of the year is the A1..This little amp is stupidly good. I remember earlier this year an American high end reviewer asking his subscribers with $100K system and up to exchange their amps for this one in a blind listening test and see if it could sit in their system.. No one said no and every single one of them were so impressed they all bought one. So I bought one just to see if it was that good and it is. So much so I've written to Musical Fidelity to bring out the class A mono's again because two is always better than one.. The A1 is no hotter than a valve amp, in fact it's cooler to run in a room. I've tried it with my Alsyvox's and heard it with the large Westminster's. Honestly this little amp is a star.. Must send pics esp with the Alysavox speakers.. This little amp has no right to sound this good 🙂
@@Hi-FiRiff Great!! In a meanwhile I got a chance to listen fo Wiim Pro Dac, my fried got it as a gift and... no good at all, poor overall presentation... just you two and one another reviewer said that it is not a greta dac/streamer... everyone else said it is a great value... but simply it is not, just makes the sound worse.... So cheeers again! ;))
I can't say unfortunately, although there is a very good Stereophile review comparing both, and also including the LS3/5 model from Graham. In short, all were concluded as being very good speakers, with slight tonal differences. If the speaker type fits your space and listening preferences, it seems all are a very good buy. The Falcon majors on being a very decent replica, and Jerry and team provide excellent customer service. @@alexg4284
Hey HiFi Geezers. Being in Australia did I see this before you made it? Anyways just thought Id suggest that with the "Riff-ometer” why not introduce a Nigel Tufnell award for when a ten just doesn’t do it? Cheers Big Ears Happy New Year Live Long and Prosper🖖
Hoegaarden is not from Holland but from Belgium. And while Vader Abraham is Dutch, The Smurfs is a Belgian comic book series. Look up Belgium, it's right beneath The Netherlands.
We defer to your sage wisdom on The Smurfs, and Mike will come to you if he has any Smurf-related queries! I do know that Belgium exists, as I usually drive through it on my way to Munich.

How do you like the Aethos? I rate it and the Rega DAC very highly, though I just changed to the Denafrips Pontus II. My wish for next Christmas, is that Rega makes a more highend DAC, for people that dont play CD’s 😄
Ps I wanted to ask you a question about the Riff on the Technics SLP999 .Did it really sound almost as good as the Hugo when you unplugged it and used its own Dac and was pretty close to the hugo ,Ive got my eye on a Slp 999 ,and wanted your opinion is it worth buying for the sound quality? All rhe very Best love your Riffs
It sounded different. The Technics was more animated and vivid, a little brighter tonally, and slightly less refined. Hugo was much more detailed though with wider and deeper soundstage - more accurate I would say.
Thanks for all your comments, gents.

Isn’t it great that two mates can chat shit for ages and have all their mates listen in. The internet is awful in many ways but this is mint 🎵👊🏻

Yes, agree, the new A1 is very special - so maybe a reborn A100 next, and then onwards until all that classic lineup comes out again!
Greetings from an ex-pat in Germany. Thanks for the entertainment, best wishes for you and yours!
Our pleasure.
Enjoyed your videos, thank you and seasons greetings 😊
Cheerrsss!! Which beer did you have? You two are great!! :))
Moretti, straight from Mike's mancave fridge!
Followed by an Estrella in the Hi-Fi pub! 🍻

The moment I saw Birra Moretti, I knew you guys know what's good! 😁 Happy holidays and keep up the good work! 👍
BTW, I bought the Falcon Gold Badge on your recommendation and LOVE them.
How do they compare to other ls3/5as? I’ve only heard graham audios

PS Happy New Year guys 🙂
Fantastic last rift of the year happy Christmas 🎄 to you both I've had the WiiMPro for 6mths I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about it
Thanks, and our take on the WiiMPro is coming soon.
It no wimmp
Mike
Happy Christmas! I hate Rush - no allowances today ;-)
Careful, you'll trigger Mike!
Happy Christmas, lads. Can you please not neglect the humble phono preamp in 2024.
Will do.
Hi. Why are your reviews so much better on the black blokey couch rather than the fluffy white one?
Easy question... The black sofa sits next to my beer fridge!

Now there's a thought. "This one goes up to eleven"!
“Oven gloves”😅
Still laughing
Mike
If you were that worried about how long this Riff was you could have set a timer?
Happy Xmas Iggy and Buster
We did... and still overran!
@@Hi-FiRiff So that cartridge timer doesn't even have an alarm? Even more useless present 😀
You definitely need progressive lenses !😊
Tell me about it. Two bright lights right in front of me didn't help, though...
I hear David soul used one of those

They certainly do and it certainly does... a bloody good one too!
