This is one of my earliest memories of gaming. I remember my dad swapped something with my uncle for a chipped dreamcast with what seemed like 100 chipped games. All white discs simply with the name written on the top in green sharpie… I remember switching between the games in my bedroom trying to figure out what types of games there were and falling in love with this game along with sonic adventure. Great memories.
It was so refreshing to finally play an RPG with graphics that looked better than what the PS1 had to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed Evo 1 & 2. I'm not into JRPGs anymore, but I'd definitely replay this franchise if I could get the discs. These two games along with Sega Rally, NFL 2K, and Soul Calibur were the height of console gaming for me at the time.
@@zachschendt7201 I don't think I played that one. I did buy Blue Stinger and Carrier, but I didn't like either of those. The games were really hit or miss on the Dreamcast. I don't remember any games being so-so.
Oh man! Talk about a forgotten one from our childhood. I remember watching you play and farm up levels, but I guess I never understood the plot either back then. I'll have to take a look at it once I get my EmulationStation back up and running.

I don't like Chain either but I took her in my team as she has a lot of skills for multiple targets. I was discarding the invited fighter right before the bosses so I didn't have to share the money after completing a dongeon, then I could upgrade their cyframes levels faster. I didn't have the glitch texture on characters icons nor the loud music changing, maybe it was a wrong emulator setting that caused that. 🤷♂
Oh I didn't actually think of removing characters before boss fights, however I didn't grind much early on so I may not have been able to even beat the boss till later on if I did that. Haha. Ya could have been the emulator, I wanted to put it in just in case. I appreciate the feedback.
This is my favourite game of all time. I sunk a few hundred hours into this as a kid, and I've recently got a dreamcast emulator on my phone and doing another play-through now. Chain was sadly the worst partner, even though her attacks are the coolest and potentially the most helpful. V blade is so handy, and "one step around enemy" attacks were surprisingly helpful too. However, gre is the best. Doesn't tax you, and his base attack is decent enough. Does everything you need him too. The graphics for this game still blow me away now, and I still love playing it. Your weird glitch, I've never encountered. I'm a PAL user, though
@WoddahMalone Gaming I bought the second one a couple of years ago, and it was good, but in my opinion, not as good. The main bit I loved was the random dungeon generation, and whilst I know 2 does have that bit of random dungeons, it's not connected to the main story. Just a bit of extra for the people who enjoyed the first. I thought the story wasn't quite as good either. Not that the first one had a great story, but damn, I was nearly in tears the first time I got to the ending cutscene on the first one 😂 the first one was like "linear is special" and the second one was like "oh yeah, there's a few of us, we're all special". And we still didn't get any closure on Asrok. I will say, though, the item combining is really cool. It was actually in the first one too, but only on the NeoGeo version and not on the dream cast version, for whatever reason. Although I'm only half way through my neogeo play through, I think the combining really trivialises the final boss. 2x monaka ampoule makes Green moss, which completely fills your FP. The amount of grinding you need to do on the dreamcast for half a dozen of those damn moss 😂
@@leftysheppey I had a blast with 2 but ya, it did feel like dlc to the first one. No real story and I felt the game was far easier for the reasons you mentioned plus grinding being far more op in the second.

I’m not gonna lie I do have a lot nostalgia for this game Evolution Worlds for the Nintendo GameCube. but I never knew that Evolution Worlds consists two games that was released for the Sega Dreamcast. Even the soundtrack reminds me of simpler times

I still have this game, I love this game. It was a present from my big sister long ago. this game is hardcore, you have to grind a lot. I've gotten to the end but never could beat the final boss and kinda screwed myself, should've grinded more.

5:37 LOL, it happened to me as well. I hate so much that game design about cRPGs when the world that suppose to be even semi-opened is closing without any warning. I guess developers just fixed this flaw this way, not elegant way from the design perspective at all!

The evolution games were my introduction to JRPG's as a kid. Looking back, they were perfect for that role.

It does suck that if you're not prepared it holds you back but that one room let's you grind unlimited so I highly suggest that if you need to use it.
